Man I'm love the way he approaches this topic. It has always annoyed me, in these types of videos, that experts were taking those fantasy weapons at face value. @@dingdongspaghetti Well, pointing it out is one thing. Right before this he said something like "I'm not sure how on earth you would make this thing," so he _did_ point out how unrealistic it would be to see it in actual medieval combat. He just didn't spend his whole time looking at it complaining about how they could ever come up with original ideas for weapons in a fantasy game (which limits the amount you get out of the criticism as a viewer), he did his best to compare it to things he was familiar with, and guess about the most effective way to use it. Pointing it out isn't an issue, it's ruthless criticism and refusal to even consider it in any other light which is annoying, because it kind of misses the point of the video.

As a HEMA expert he's at least as interested in the technique of using the weapons as he is in their design, and "how would you effectively use this weapon" is how he approached everything in the video. For that one, it wasn't an incredibly innovative design, and they happened to show him a clip of it being dual-wielded, which is indeed practically ridiculous.

On the Hoslow’s Petal Whip, it looks like it’s built in a way that is more akin to a chain from the handle than a regular articulated whip, and that the “chain links” that it’s made of look more like claws or talons, meaning it would be more of a raking/tearing type of wound than striking/cutting, meaning it’s only effectiveness is as a weapon against creatures/people with no clothing or armor in places, as a displacement item with people with clothing or cloth based armor, or simply as an annoyance in anyone with any non flexible armor at all.

Why the duck IGN used as example someone using 2 Dark Moon Greatsword instead of Radahn Sword? You can't even get 2 in the same NG run (also most people don't use it like that), while Radahn sword has built in the dual wielding. Also using Godfrey axe (a Str weapon) in just 1 hand...
Matt did a great job, IGN was terrible.

You should've showed him weapons wielded in 2 hands as well plus the weapon art, also there is an Urumi (Nox Flowing Sword) in the game as well, show him that!

The spinning flail could be a defensive option, essentially a way to negate an incoming blow by tangling it. It would negate your own offense as well, but if you have two then it's fine.

Thing you didn't bring up about how the axe of godfrey is actually used: It's essentially dropped on the opponent, with practically no effort to halt its swing until it hits the ground. It does have a couple of moves in the moveset where it goes to the side instead, but essentially just hefting it up and letting gravity do the work would effectively make it a lot easier to swing than you would expect.

The blood helix is actually an Evangelion reference, one of a large number of giant robot anime references in From Software games, which makes sense given that their biggest hit before the Soulsborne mythos debuted was the Armored Core series. It's based on a giant, red, spiral shaped polearm dubbed the "Lance of Longinus". The fact it'd be hard to smith something like that is even kind of addressed in Eva since a) it's alien technology found inside a giant alien spacecraft buried under Antarctica and b) it's apparently *alive.*

There's actually an Urumi whip in the game.
Nox flowing blade acts more like some magical malleable blade that could shift between rigid and bendy at will.
