I've had mine since 2013 . This is a great reel , I haven't had any trouble out of mine at all , and this is the reel that I usely pick up when I have a spinning reel application .
a Mitchell 308 or 306 with 8 steel bearings is my favorite. it's under fifty bucks and lasts forever. I have one on an ultralight rod I've used 7 years straight , almost every day. it works as good as it did the day I bought it. anyhow. thanks for the info . another great video. 😁
the ball bearings are the key. mine all have 8 . I have the 300 I think , and it was 24.99 on clearance at academy a few months back. I've got 65 pound spider wire invisibraid on it paired with a stiff rod just for frogs. it works great.
Those are decent, but with the new stradic (or somthing like the old rarenium u get a reel that costs like 150 bucks and is near to perfection.. super light and super smooth.. even reels that cost 4 times that amount are not much better than this. Its like comparing kids stuff to the real deal.
I'd really love something like that. I could never justify spending that much on a reel though. Since my first comment I've caught an 8lbs bass and several others over 5 with that old Mitchell of mine. I believe you on the quality of the stradic. I live on very very little so even fifty for what I have was really stretching my wallet. Thanks for your feedback friend.
And yet people catch fish after fish after fish after fish with kid's stuff that often cost ten bucks for rod and reel. It's not the tools that matter, it's the craftsman who uses the tools. Poor, untalented workers always demand the most expensive tools. Good, talented workers create art with the cheapest tools.
A really good technical review, I think. I love my CI4+ as it is just so incredibly light and that makes a big difference over the course of a long day. And, it is more waterproof than most other spinning reels so I find it is almost maintenance free. Almost all pros have one or more spinning set-ups on deck these days. You have to: drop shot, split shot, Ned rigs, smaller T-Rigs/jigs/weightless worms. Best option, too, for spy baiting, any techniques that require longer casts, casting into the wind or cross winds, days when you need to downsize to light lines for really small lures including crankbaits, top waters and spinners. LFG is correct: a $50 spinning reel isn't even close to being comparable to the higher end models like Stradics. Some of last year's CI4+ models are on sale now and I bought a 1000 series for $139 that will be delivered today. Brad
My favorite reels are my 2 Daiwa Laguna 3500s. I just wipe them down with a wet paint brush after use, change line once or twice a year and spray corrosion block in the rotor once a year. I have never opened the case and the reels still work just about as well as they did 12 years ago when I bought them. In fact better because I replaced the drag washers with cabontex washers. I bought both reels for under $40 with shipping from ebay.
Bought a Daiwa Legalis 2500 for 57 bucks. Super light, very well made, 7 bearings, 22lb drag and very smooth. Msrp is 70$ got it new for 57$ on Amazon.
shimano c14 reels are awesome. I have the last model and this newer one both in 3000 size paired with a Phenix Trifecta 8'6" mh and a Phenix M1 7'8" m. I fish the southern California surf and these reels are great for it. If you are thinking of getting one, do not hesitate. You will not regret it. Just be sure you pair it with a nice quality light rod to compliment these reels.
I got 2 of the Stradic FK models and I am very happy with them. Fully agree with your statement that the better made reels manage the line placement on the spool much better.
My experience is only with the FK. The first real big redfish I caught on my 3000 FK shredded the felt drag washers. installed carbontex washers with cals grease , it's now butter smooth. I also replaced the bushing under the spool with a bearing and added a shimano micro shim between the main gear and side plate (gear side) b/c the reel had too much back play right out of the box. google stradic FK tuning upgrade if anybody wants to see how it's done...the reel has been flawless inshore since the upgrades.
For anyone watching this, get a shimano Sedona fe 1000... I have had mine for 5 years, bushbashed it in fresh and drowned it chasing all sorts in salt.... only serviced it once and its still my favorite, most reliable reel and only costs around $70
I have a quantum kenetic sp (40) i got it in 2010 and it is much better than this thing. It has 2 large spools allowing for lots of line and higher pound test and line twist is very rare. The retrival is very smooth with 9 titanium ball bearings. The reel is made completely of metal with a beautiful red and black finish. Titanium bail is something ive have never had a problem with. I dont know why people complian about weight but with a completely metal reel it seems to not be light (My opinion not too much of a problem. I really done care) It costs about 80$ on amazon and honestly so worth it. Thank you for reading my random review on a much cheaper spinning alternative.
Amazon link i was talking about. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0061NYBC8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490904337&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=quantum+kinetic&dpPl=1&dpID=41M8BZkx6DL&ref=plSrch
I have the 2015 model shimano stradic spooled with 8lb suffix 832 braid. I use it for jigging for walleye and I absolutely love it! planning to buy more in the future.
just bought this reel today feels very nice put 10 lb braid which is the dia of 1 lb mono casts like a dream I will be using this inshore and fishing lakes in a 1000 size
I had a Stradic C14 years ago and gave it to my son in law, but I liked it so much I just bought a Stradic C14 3000. I haven't used it yet but it feels smooth. I don't like that Shimano eliminated the anti reverse lever though.
I've got the same shimono clarus spinning rod 6'6 med/hvy with a shimono spirex 2500fd spooled with 12lb stren high impact monofiliment and like you said ever since I traded my Mitchell reel for this spirex line twist are basically gone it's not a Stradic c14+ but shimono puts good products out that last a lifetime and the spirex is 60$ that's not breaking the bank at all
Looks like a nice reel. Just got a 13fishing omen black medium power spinning rod and the Lews TP300. A great combo. Super light weight compared to what I have been used to.
I like the okuma rtx. Its like a cheap stradic ci4. 8 bearings, waterproof drag, only weighs 6.6 ounces for a 30 size. Its only $100 too, and you can easily find them cheaper.
Just bought 3 Select Favorite defender series rods (lunkerstv version of course). I want a great Spinning reel to go with my new rod set up and I already have amazing baitcasters but I dont have much experience with spinning reels. Thank you for this video, it made my decision extremely easy!
$229.99 is best for the money???!!! Yeah If you are sponsored by ABG. And you get it free!! The rest of us need that money for food for the week for a 3-4 person family!! $50-$120 for a combo is more realistic for us chumps on a budget!
@@ethanford100 How many more fish do you think you'll catch on that $229 reel than you would on the cheap reel? One...maybe two? Grandpa fished for 70 years and never bought anything but $20 Shimano reels. Old man probly caught tens of thousands of bluegill in his life on $20 plastic Shimano reels.
The way spinning reel handles tighten, they can never feel tight enough. I'd rather have one feel tight, than have the right hand option. What do you think? Perhaps Shimano could incorporate their bicycle hub quick release to remedy this?
While $230 is middle of the road or a casting reel (but definitely on the higher end) I would argue that the stradic's pricepoint is essentially the very top of everyone's range. What costs more that people really use that often? The Daiwa Luvias? Not really... Stradic is the most expensive spinning reel that people really buy...
I have the earlier model, I bought it right before the newest model like you have came out. I was wondering if you have used the older model and if you have if there is much of a difference. I live in Massachusetts and throw a lot of finesse baits like weightless senkos so I am looking to get another spinning reel. I think mine is awesome by the way, it is so smooth. Thanks, I love your videos, they have helped me a lot.
I really want to try one of these but the price tag puts it out of reach. I use a $150 Daiwa Procyon and drop shot ALOT for smallies and am really happy with it. I also dig the Daiwa fuego and it's only $100.
Had my for few months now paired with zodias 7' mf. Super light setup. I fished 2 or 3 time a week mainly on saltwater. let see how it hold up. My Stradic fk didn't do so well after about 10 months.
Thanks for posting. But I doubt it is manufactured, anymore by Shimano. Designed, for sure and if the Chinese HONOR the agreement (who knows?) the part quality should be good, as well. What I would LOVE to see--but don't hold your breath, is for some testing group to take one, and do analysis on the materials--all the good stuff you mentioned? I would like a tech company to take one apart and CONFIRM they really used the parts the Chinese claimed, they used. All that said, yeah, I have seen this reel in use, it seems very very nice. Opinion: hard to believe it is worth over 200 dollars, when you consider the point of use. Take me, for trout fishing, I have a 40 buck reel, that I have used for over 30 years without issue. Of course, it is "old" and made in Japan, not China. Butter smooth drag, only downside is weight, and for my trout fishing, it works just fine. I'm a hard sell then, to pay that to only get light weight, in return. To each his own. PS They DO cast further than any reel I have ever seen, that is a fact, but again, for me, little trout in a stream, or casting from my boat, in a lake, just not worth that much.
You could pair the whole ugly stik species series pretty well. You would end up with a light action crappie spinning rod, 5'6-9', your choice, 7' ML and MH striper rods, and a 7 or 8' catfish rod. They all match in color and are great multipurpose rods all around. The rods would only total $160 and of course you could pick spinning or casting on all of them except the crappie ones. But "they" won't tell you that...
Paul Beach I fish my Ugly Stik for catfish and carp and I love it for that. But there is a reason I use my Daiwa Steez SVF AGS rod for drop shot smallmouth rather than the G Stik. Sensitivity my friend.
What rod do you have that on? I see it's a G Loomis, but I don't recognize the model. Thank you for this review, I've been considering this reel for a while, I want one GOOD one for dropshop/shakeyhead, and your review has just 100% sold me. My only question regarding spinning reels is, do you use mono backing if you're gonna spool it with braid? Thanks Justin, love your stuff and this vid is just perfect for me.
no problem just happened to see your comment and the rod name at the same time. Come to think of it I haven't seen him use a Loomis rod recently(unless I wasn't paying attention) maybe he knows something we don't lol. I'll let LFG answer the other questions for you if he feels up to it.
YakMan NC I've bought 4 strains (and plenty of other reels) from ebay. they aren't fakes. even if a problem did arise for some reason, just start a case and get a full refund... ebay is a lot more trustworthy than you think.
Braden commerford, High end reels are unnecessary. For $100 dollars though and even less you can get reels that are pretty near similar and still very fun to fish with. Here's a few cheaper options The okuma rtx for $100, has 8 bearings, waterproof drag, and only weighs 6.6 oz. There's also the daiwa fuego at $100, which isn't a super light reel, it weighs 9.2 oz, but its EXTREMELY smooth, has 9 bearings, very powerful, and very durable. There's also the kastking sharky for like $40 on amazon, which is pretty much a cheap stradic. Its only like 7.6 oz, its waterproof, and has like 11 bearings. It has a lot of good reviews too. Also, all of these reels even have that cool old stradic look to them too.
This was an interesting video. I do a lot of jig fishing for crappies. So, is this $300.00 dollar reel going to pull in a 1 lb crappie better than a Zebco 202?
Ive been using stradic fk c3000hg since early this year and i used it for light jigging mainly for spanish mackerel and honestly it works great. Is this reel worth selling the stradic fk? Im thinking about to upgrade my setup or should i just stick to the fk cause i have no problem with the fk..
If you want something that will last you long and has better quality. Yeah i can see forking out $200 on a reel compared to buying someting in the $50-$100 range that you can use for a year or two only to be replaced again. Of course you need to ask yourself how much you are willing to spend and how much do you fish. In my experience. I fished with a $25 combo to a $300 fishing setup and if i knew i was going to be this serious with fishing. I would have spent the $300 setup a long time ago so that i did not waste my money on the other cheap stuff that broke. But then again using awful gear, then cheap setup and now to quality gear gave me insight to what to look for in a setup. By the end of the day you also have to know what kind of gear and fishing works for you.
Bout $250-600 reels and $100 reels I prefer $100 reels because I'm reckless with my gear I don't clean them I leave them in the boat under the elements so reels only last 2years tops with me and I actually find the cheaper ones can take more of a beating
what rod is that? I've been looking for a good rod under $70 I know it's a low budget but I do not have a job and I'm just trying to get out on the water
Shane J McNair I respect u sm bro. We gotta start helping other ppl out instead of put them down. Some people will make fun of him for a lower price but real fishermen help eachother relentless
what is the difference besides appearance between the 2015 and 2016 models? I have the 2015 ci4 1000 that I use for trout fishing it is the best ultralight reel I've ever used.
Amazing how people want to tell others how to spend their money...if you fish 2x year... $220 reel might not be for you or if you can't afford it...their are other options, don't be a hater.
I have this reel and it is a solid reel. Although from a guy who uses spinning reels probably 80% of the time the abu garcia revo rocket is a better reel in my opinion. its lighter, has higher gear ratio (7.0.1 if your looking to pick up line quickly. Also its smoother with 2 more ball bearings . Also for me at least between the two I prefer the handle better on the abu garcia for all day comfort. Best part is the abu garcia is slightly cheaper. I would trade my shimano for another AG revo Rocket.
soverjas Guarentee the AG gears will strip and wear out before the Stradics does. I use to use Abu's almost religiously, but the thumb bars on the baitcasters and the gears on the spinning reels always wore out on them. Trust me, Shimano is a gear company, they know how to make a reel.
So I got myself a Stradic ci4+ and a Daiwa Fuego LT - Stradic feels like junk in comparison. And that at half the price. I've put about 20 hours on each so far and the Stradic just doesn't come close to the fuego. I barely feel the extra 15 g of weight and the Fuego just feels a lot more sturdy and reactive. Obviously it's all subjective but now that I've used both - I'd never go for the Stradic again as long as Daiwas LT line is out there.

I've had mine since 2013 . This is a great reel , I haven't had any trouble out of mine at all , and this is the reel that I usely pick up when I have a spinning reel application .
I’m watching this 4 years later but I love the aggie stuff you’ve got around
a Mitchell 308 or 306 with 8 steel bearings is my favorite. it's under fifty bucks and lasts forever. I have one on an ultralight rod I've used 7 years straight , almost every day. it works as good as it did the day I bought it. anyhow. thanks for the info . another great video. 😁
hi mike how about the new Mitchell 300 spinning reel for 2016 the 49.95 model is this a good reel
the ball bearings are the key. mine all have 8 . I have the 300 I think , and it was 24.99 on clearance at academy a few months back. I've got 65 pound spider wire invisibraid on it paired with a stiff rod just for frogs. it works great.

Best spinning reel I’ve ever owned! Worth every penny for sure 👍🏻👍🏻

I have 4000 model and it works even for spring salmon. Very light and powerful.
Thanks to shimano for producing reel like this.
I have both the fk and ci4+ 3000 models and they are the best spinning reels in my arsenal by far! Great video brother
shimano c14 reels are awesome.
Every word said in this video is bang on. Worth the price of admission for the ci4. Fish it hard for walleye
Garrett Burgess was hoping someone would leave a comment mentioning walleye, what size are do you have? I’m going to use this specifically for walleye
I was looking at this Reel, but decided on a Daiwa Ballistic LT 2500EX, because Shimano discontinued this reel last year. Thank you for the review.
I purchased this reel and the rod you recommended in the comments. I'm looking forward to using it this weekend. Hope you continue to be healthy.
I got 2 of the Stradic FK models and I am very happy with them. Fully agree with your statement that the better made reels manage the line placement on the spool much better.
Dvj Luna when reeling in you can even feel the difference compared to the fk. i have both and have used them side by side. the hg is the way to go.
I needed this video so bad! I've been in the market for a new spinning reel

Loved my 2500 Ci4+fa. Bought the new fb "Haygain" and it's a nice reel but I'm more fond of my fa. It's a smaller body and it just feels slicker.
I have been using Okuma's for a while now. Like them a lot. Work really well for me. Have four of them. All spinning reels.
I got 5 of them. They are great on land and in yak. Goid for aussie conditions. Light. I dont need to see a chiropractor after a day of reeling

Hagane = means "good steel" ! It is the classic "carbonized" steel that gives Katana's strength and flexibility...
Looks like a nice reel. Just got a 13fishing omen black medium power spinning rod and the Lews TP300. A great combo. Super light weight compared to what I have been used to.
last years stradic ci4 is Great ...and cheaper worth every cent..another
great video
love that reel...paired it with a Shimano Crucial 7' Medium Power, Fast Action.

$230 does break the bank. I've had a few Shimano's. I liked them until I shattered the gear on a hookset. Had to handline that fish in.
I use the older model ci4 in the 3000 model for snook and small tarpon and I love it
you are my favorite fishing youtuber ;D
awesome video Justin I'll have to try out that reel
What rod are you using it with? looks really good with it and strong?

ive used static reel for years...........no problems ever wont change to another brand

I'll answer for him lol. It's not a G.loomis it's a shimano clarus.
Garrett Proctor Lol, Clarus kinda looked like GLoomis, I see it now. Thank you.
no problem just happened to see your comment and the rod name at the same time. Come to think of it I haven't seen him use a Loomis rod recently(unless I wasn't paying attention) maybe he knows something we don't lol. I'll let LFG answer the other questions for you if he feels up to it.
+Bob Hammond thank you, it's actually a Shimano Clarus there with the Stradic
+I don't use s mono backing but I will tape the the beginning of the line on so it doesn't move when fishing braid Bob Hammond
been thinking about the Okuma Helios or TCS spinning combo for my next.
want this reel so bad, hard to drop 240$ on a reel
Braden commerford you can get them like $100 cheaper on ebay, new.
I would love to pay $100 cheaper.. but on Ebay for that cheap.. there is the possibility of fakes.
Here's a few cheaper options
The okuma rtx for $100, has 8 bearings, waterproof drag, and only weighs 6.6 oz.
Does that stradic come with a reel stand? Like the sustain?
We're here with one of the best reels for the price!!! ONLY $699
what are you gonna do with your old reels ???
You are high speed, iI'm sure peeps of like will follow./ Thanks for your vid. I'm poor, won't totr
ture myself with this gear.
what rod would you recommend for drop shotting
i have the CI4+ and agree it sick....the only thing that sucks is having to use one of my other reels :)
Adam Freeman agreed. when side by side you really notice a difference.
This was an interesting video. I do a lot of jig fishing for crappies. So, is this $300.00 dollar reel going to pull in a 1 lb crappie better than a Zebco 202?
M Morton You're an idiot.
Right now my favorite lite reel is a abu garcia cardinal.
By the end of the day you also have to know what kind of gear and fishing works for you.
love shimano. great video. your content is always awesome
Bout $250-600 reels and $100 reels I prefer $100 reels because I'm reckless with my gear I don't clean them I leave them in the boat under the elements so reels only last 2years tops with me and I actually find the cheaper ones can take more of a beating
Jimmy Masri your logic is very odd.
What's the best drop shot reel and rod?
Freshwater or saltwater bro?
I love the stradic
What rod are you using?
what rod is that? I've been looking for a good rod under $70 I know it's a low budget but I do not have a job and I'm just trying to get out on the water
Check out KastKing Rods, great 1 & 2 piece rods for the money and will not break the bank. American Company with Factory Direct Prices...
Shane J McNair I respect u sm bro. We gotta start helping other ppl out instead of put them down. Some people will make fun of him for a lower price but real fishermen help eachother relentless
What's the best size pole to run with that reel length and toughness
what is the difference besides appearance between the 2015 and 2016 models? I have the 2015 ci4 1000 that I use for trout fishing it is the best ultralight reel I've ever used.
have the reel love the way it performs
Lakeforkguy you make the sickest videos
+Jacob Guinta thank you sir
+LakeForkGuy you should try to catch a bass on sausage I caught my pb on sausage
do you need to back the ci4+ before putting braid on?
I just spent $800 on a reel. That's half of my saving. I am broke now.. but i think its worth it at the same time
in your top night fishing lures video you mentioned a lft craw chunk where can I get them?
its water sealed like teh penn right?
Amazing how people want to tell others how to spend their money...if you fish 2x year... $220 reel might not be for you or if you can't afford it...their are other options, don't be a hater.
Can you use it for saltwater
How long would this reel last?
Can you go over the sizes , notice it starts from 1000 all the way up to 4000.
You made me want to buy a cronarch ci4+ 151hg, are you gonna make me buy this reel now aswell ? :D youre great :D
