If you excuse me as I have a great respect for you and your knowledge, I’d give you a suggestion for those touchy trimmers. Use a screwdriver with a thicker handle or make your own (like a T for example). This will help you as you can control the angolar speed with your tangential speed of rotation. Thanks for running your channel, we all learn a lot from you. Best wishes, Diego
Peter your the best and love to learn from you and this time your voice was very fast I think you recorded this in 10x or double your normal voice. otherwise a great job as usual. This is one of the best and favorite channel. thanks Mike
Agree. Speed is out, but hey Peter still does an awesome job of showing and explaining the bench tech and procedures, so a little speed glitch is definitely forgiven. 🙂
I hope you could answer this -2 questions 1. how did you terminate J6001 and J6007 to a 50-Ohm Resistor what cables where used? 2. For the Final Stage Idling current how did you connect a DC Ammeter between the Power Supply and the FTDX101MP?
Good Afternoon, do you know what rating the 50ohm resistor should be for J6001 and J6007? and is the connections to the rf board MHF4? I'm about to embark on this repair and need to order the parts for the alignment, any help much appreciated, this video is exactly what I've been looking for, Best 73 2E0IEN
I had a PA transistor fail on the very first day of ownership with my FTDX101MP, although the rig had a warranty I do accept that I accidentally drove it too hard on FT8. (I had set levels but had done a reset afterwards). I changed the VRF150s without removing the board from the chassis. I bought the replacement transistors from Mouser, approximately £120 for the pair including tax. The radio has operated for over 4000 hours since without incident. 73
Guter Tag. Ik heb een vraag. kunt u eens een filmpje maken van een voeding. overvolt beveiliging. did same thing with an older ft101mp finals were over 200 dollars and within 10 seconds one of the new finals blew. dont know why but wasnt going to waste 200 more dollars on new finals again. it sat on the shelf and never worked on it again
@@TRXLab but sorry, mine are broken now after 4 years, why? without any reason, while a friend of mine after 1 year must be a big game of defective endings, in my opinion there is something in the system that is not perfect
Shouldn't the heat spreader plate be made of copper? It looks aluminum. 100 watts is a lot to dissipate. Not sure about a bad batch of transistors but you can tell the original ones have been cooking hot. The glue is all brown and discolored. It is not age, these radios not out long enough. Good video as always.
Copper or aluminum is always a discussion. I prefer aluminum, as long the heat sink is calculated in the right way. The downside of copper is that it is oxidizing.
I don't see how on a sofisticated radio like this, one final transistor could be demaged. Except if the bias potentiometers are faulty and jumping all over the place. Very risky that you didn't change them.
Thinking about FTDX101D for a while. Seems it has a fair share of failures. John Kruk (Yaesu USA Marketing) said FTDX101MP was flagship and pride of Yaesu. I suspect John is a "salesman" and full of beans. : ( No problems with many Yaesu radios I have, could be some user practices contributing to failures. Thank You
Well the issue is if you see some repairs on a particular radio one can think there is a problem with the product but be assured it is not. To correct those issues, that's what warranty is for. It is a very good radio, superb receiver and good working noise cancelation features.
@@TRXLab I have FTDX10 and FT-710 for over year without problems. I am considering FTDX101D (when price drops) but repair issues give me pause ; ) Thank You.
When you first started the 101 after replacing the PA transistors it seems to me that.... displayed the "channel" frequency of digital emissions in the 10m band :-))) hence my exclusively.... conjecture ? . Warm greetings & Best 73 ! @@TRXLab
Too much coffee mode LOL . I had to slow it down a bit to 0.75 and it was still a lil bit fast .......... Great job Peter ....
Had to set Playback to 0.75... Very pleasant video and as usual I learned more. Thank you sir!
Great video I put it on one half speed 0.5 and enjoyed it twice as much
0.75 is perfect.

Peter, of course we always learn in your videos ! Thanks for keeping posting !
AKA: Peter does 10 X on the coffee prior to the video!
😂
Peter is going to stroke mode
I have one word......decaf. excellent video as always.
Video speed is fast
😅
Luckily, in youtube you can adjust the speed of the videos. Thanks Peter for the interesting repair!
You are a genius level technician.. Excellent work.
Thank you!
I had to double-check my playback setting. Peter like the speed just fine, and I can slow it down when you cover the fine details 👍

Thank you Peter for another outstanding video and repair. DId you use the VRF150MP matched pair version or the standard VRF150?
They came from Yaesu and the radio has an independent bias control for both transistors...
Love the videos but warpdrive is a bit tricky - this is overclocked!
I turned your speed down to .75
Thanks for the video 😊

Peter, 1.25x is enough for me with normal speed.
Great job on the repair. Regards from Romania

What's wrong with the playback speed?
I have watched many of your videos, wondering why number 290 has speed ed up audio.
you can adjust play back speed so that it fits to your preferences
I wish i had you as a bud. Your great at this .
Superb. Subscribed.
Lot of coffee today??? Great job as usual... Keep em coming. 73 de WD8JM

Where'd you get the stuff ?
from Yaesu

Yes, digi modes is one of the final killers and it happens very quick...
Well done, as always!
Adjusting the playback speed to 0.7x makes it more comfortable to watch
I like the warp drive , maybe just a tad too much but a great idea.
I usually view videos at 1.25 speed but this time I was greeted by the Chipmunks. 😊
Fastes repair ever :)
I like the new speed. Nice job as always.
😂
Playback at .75 speed made Peter sound normal.
I have a kenwood tm741a, I could use some help?
what supplier did you purchase the transistors?
It is said the transistors were purchased from Yaesu.

Important is to check if the bias pots are okay.
Hi Peter another challenge for you it hasn't met the master yet trust you are keeping well
sorry because the power amplifiers break, there are several ft101mp radios with this problem, why?
As far we have heard, there was a bad batch of transistors in the first run. What we can confirm is that by now different types gets delivered.

Sound speed too fast??

Sounds like the sound is X1speed

I do not like the higher playback speed. Even cutting it down to .75x on youtube, it’s still on the fast side.
0,5 but sounds strange anyway
ok
Peter. Ich hoffe es war nur ein Versehen den Videospeed zu erhöhen.
Hi Peter, I needed to reduce playback speed to 0.75X to view correctly 😊

The pots are something we always test, you are right that is essential. In this case, the potentiometers were fine.

yup, 0.75 is the perfect playback speed.
