I think that Survivors (1975) is the best tv series ever, it was the beginning for a new tv era. I think the best of it was the fact that it was English, and not American, the locations are simply so beautiful and I feel it more realistic than nowadays tv series. Thanks for the video!
The main difference between Survivors and an American version is that in the British version, there is just the odd shotgun seen. In an American version the survivors would have had machine guns, assault rifles and been waging war on other groups!
@@rogueriderhood1862 Just like Space: 1999 season one/series one was so good, but when the Armerican branch of ITC or ITV started putting their nose too much into it, it just turned into silly action in season 2/series 2. A few good episodes, but nothing as good as season one. Then of course it was cancelled after that. Such a shame.
I shall add this to my list of places to visit. Been watching the show all week, something about has gripped me. Plays well into the apocalypse scenario of our imaginations
One of my most favourite of tv shows of all time and no mistake. This nestled into my subconscious back in my teens and has never left. I have it on DVD and rewatching it as an older man it is interesting to see how my own reactions to it have changed over the decades. Some are superficial, such as a teenage boy I had a nascent crush on Jenny whilst the (supposedly) 'grown up' me preferred the capable and decisive Abby. Others are more substantial, such as thinking that Charles's idea to get power generation going again and establishing a social network of the settlements is a more sensible notion for the long term than Greg gave it credit for. A side note is that, possibly because of the characters of Greg and Charles, I actually became an engineer and spent three decades designing control systems for the National Grid. I'd love to say that the system they showed in the series was one of mine ... and it *is* {!} ... but my stuff didn't get commissioned until the 90's :D
thanks for this - Survivors (1975) is in my top ten British sci-fi shows . I've watched it several times and keep meaning to take a trip to Hampton Court and other filming locations but it's on a list among lists of stuff to do
Survivors (1970's) is still the best survival show ever made because there's not a stupid zombie, mutant, vampire, werewolf or alien in sight, just a bunch of ordinary people trying to stay alive..:)
It is! :-) My brother, sister and I still talk about it a lot! We loved it then, and we still do. Thank you to the makes of THIS video for doing it, and investigating the sites where filming took place. My brother and I recently visited (and walked through) the tunnel at Monsell Head in Derbyshire where one of the episodes were filmed
I was about 14 when this was on TV and the subject matter has always been fascinating to me. Its good to see the original series has been remembered and enjoyed by others. Sadly the reboot of Survivors wasn't well executed and only did 2 series.
Wonderful! Just been to Hampton Court Castle north of Hereford, after seeing this. Love the series so it was special to see the filming locations. The gardens are no longer grass wilderness but beautifully planted. Great day out.
Amazing how I can be watching the survivors now in 2021 with the world pandemic going on and be able to see the location as it is now (although deserted again for the same reason). The modern world can be amazing and sobering all in one moment.
Loved that series when I was a kid, got the box sets and of series in 2007, thanks guys really enjoyed this! Kind of spooky though given the current pandemic, never thought it would happen in my lifetime.
strangely i visited during the pandemic I had to wear a mask ,sign in etc.. immersive experience . they could have charged more. . no mention of the show in their publicity . lovely gardens
Just come across this video. Myself and a few other massive Survivors fans do trips to Hampton Court Castle and surrounding locations twice a year. Were doing a Hampton Court Castle meet tomorrow(27th October 2018). I have a Facebook page called Survivors BBC TV Series if ever your interested in joining us.
I was lucky enough to visit the farm where Charles Vaughan lives, my friend lived there after the series was filmed, we took a punt and walked past all the odd game areas, very unnerving and met an old guy who had lived there for years, remembered the crews turning up to film it. It was a commune at the time my friend lived there, we met his sister on the way in who told us if he complained to tell him that she gave us permission. He was apparently fond of warding off fans and anyone else with a shotgun.
Hopefully, covid made me put lots of the location stuff on hold. But I have a few plans, for when I can travel and get inside places again. Thanks for your kind words.
Awesome stuff. I am just rewatching the classic series right now. It is what got me into post-apocalyptic movies and series alreday as a kid. The other day I watched Garlands War, then yesterday Starvation. Back in the days all we got in our country was the first season, so not until like early 2000's and p2p I finally got to watch the full series. I even ordered the new version of the series on DVD back then, but that got cancelled after 2 seasons, just as it was getting really interesting and Tom Price (the new one) sneaked on an airplane to catch the rich elite and if they had some isolated colony out there somewhere. If only these old classic series were on some streaming platforms we could access in my region, but they are not. I have never been able to watch all classic Dr. Who, just an episode here and there. Sure the new series from 2005 and onwards exists, but I want to see all the old ones in the right order. Btw #TomBakerIsMyDoctor 😎 When I was a kid, all we got here was like a few episodes of Dr. Who on national TV. We got for example the "Robot" episodes. Oh well. Nice video.
A great film about a great TV show. Any idea where the church graveyard is at the end of the Genesis episode? It was filmed around Lydney in Gloucestershire. I think it may be St Mary’s Church. I’ve found the canal locations in the episode Parasites.
On google street view (imagery date 2009) there's a small castle-type entrance arch up at the main road, but I don't seem to remember it was there in the series?
I believe it was added when the house was renovated, after its time laying derelict which is when the series was filmed. They don't even mention the series on the official tour of the house, Crazy!
@@GingerBeardMark thanks, I've just dropped the following email to them and will let you know if they reply- "Hello, are you open for tours during the lockdown? Incidentally did you know Hampton Court Castle was used as a location in the 1975 'Survivors' TV series? You make no mention of the fact in your adverts which is a pity because the series is a cult classic with thousands of fans and I'm sure they'd flock to you if they knew"..:)
Weird watching this because i have recently watched survivors again on RUclips, I don’t think survivors has been matched since it’s been copied time and time again but it was way ahead of its time.
This episode seems almost forgotten when we next see Charles, and in the episodes that follow. I thought there would be more of a story with the fish and that older 'corn dolly' woman. She seems a bit off her head, like a witch.
Hey all you Survivors fans, who was 'Pete'?.. In Srs 2 ep 1 "Birth of a Hope" soon after the Grange burns down, Paul tells Greg about two people who died in the fire, and says- "Donny and Pete were right beside the straw." I know who Donny was, but who the heck was Pete?
One wonderful movie series. The old series are good, but the now version are crap. Only One other series, are good like SURVIVORS. That is JERICHO made by CBS.
Thanks for putting this up - I love that show way beyond what is socially acceptable - it's a total classic in all its sometimes clunky glory.
