A BIT OF A DEMO I`VE MADE OF `ONE BETTER DAY` by MADNESS.

  • This is one of the songs i`m currently working on at the moment.
This is a rough demo I quickly made of the 2nd verse of `One Better Day`, to see how all the parts i`d worked out sound when fitted together.
I liked the result & I thought i`d share it because this stripped down version isolates & highlights some of the beautiful melodic parts contained in this wonderful song, (especially the strings & the marimba).
I find that when I strip a song down & work out & perform all the parts, I get a much deeper appreciation of all the hard work that went into it.
This is such a beautiful & clever song.

Don't know what's more melancholic - the song or the picture? Or the song WITH the picture?

@Jayne Everton Ha ha great story Jayne, thanks for telling me, & I hope you enjoyed yourself at that gig in Prenton Park.
Please forgive me for any confusion on my part, but I just wondered, because you wrote, "I bunked into see you guys at Prenton Park in 2017", if you thought I had any involvement with the band.
      I don`t, i`m just a fan like you.
I just wanted to clear up any possible confusion, as I don`t want to mislead anybody :o)

Hi Lee, great work as always! I have a question, do you add EQ, reverb or any other effects to your mixes because, especially in your 1983 My Girl cover, they sound very clean! Thanks, Chap

Thank you. Good question & one where i`ve never really analyzed what I do regarding EQ.
Firstly, I `create` all the sounds I use by modifying the stock instruments on my keyboards.
So when i`m making a guitar sound for example, I will make it with loads of treble so it will really cut through the mix, & then some reverb & distortion will be added to try to get it as close to the original guitar sound on that track i`m covering. This is all done using the EQ`S & DSP`s or effects on my keyboard.
Once i`ve got all the tracks recorded onto my Tascam Portastudio, if needed, any final EQing will be done using the Tascam`s EQ , eg maybe a bit of extra treble & bass on the drums.
But I don`t use a lot of EQ on the final mix.
So most of the EQing and effects are done on my keyboard when I `create` a sound, with the hope that everything sounds clear, distinguishable & ultimately realistic.
Sorry for rambling on but I hope that all makes sense & answers your questions?.
Please ask if there is anything else you want to know.
I appreciate all your feedback, Chap.

@@MrNuttylee7 Fair enough, I see, thanks Lee. It's amazing what Clive Langer and Adam Winstanley were able to do - I still wonder what they did to get the drums on Bed and Breakfast Man.
As for the "rambling", don't worry about it it's all interesting. With every video you upload, the more questions I'll be throwing out! Without you I couldn't play all my fav Madness songs so thanks goes to YOU, Lee :)
