Ryan, how much longer do you think we have before the current system of accreditation is no more? Also, if the current system is scorched, foreign governments will not necessarily recognize US degrees. They will recognize those degrees that were conferred before the eradication of CHEA, as I understand it. If both the value and recognition of American degrees abroad are diminished, so are the prospects of the degree holder... Any insights?
@@OnlineSchoolofEnglish I think the most likely outcome is that we keep the same structure but that he fires and replaces the leadership in these accreditation institutions. I don't see a full collapse of any major structure coming anytime soon.
our school systems need to look at how they do things in Denmark, Switzerland, Holland, Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, they seem to have higher academic performances, lower drop out rates, better behavior / less delinquency in their students. we seriously need to look at the models of how they teach, how they interact, encourage students, how they deal with punishment and discipline. we need to revamp our systems and i feel like they are some good models to look at in planning and setting up ours.

It would be difficult to do exactly as those countries do because until recently most of those countries have a homogenous population and don’t have the income disparities that the United States does. Those countries are also much smaller than the USA. You could look at northern states that are mostly white and tend to have the best school systems in the country. Massachusetts if it were a country would be something like #5 in the world. Massachusetts is like 70% white which helps a lot. States with lower % of white people tend lower quality school systems

Ask any Baby boomer! HS's with trade education was taught to prepare you for Key job position at big Corporation back in the 50's. That's all you needed. The rest you will acquire hands on skill on job training. Those were the times you worked till paid retirement.
Maybe standards were higher in the 70s. Maybe half of today's kids wouldn't qualify for college. Maybe they'd be hanging drywall like the 70 percent of Americans did for the longest time. This idea that minimum wage bought you so much more was is ridiculous. Low wages was always low wages and your were always trying to make more. My first job ,I made 60 dollars from a fast food job and immediately quit and got a job working in the oil field on a boat in the gulf of Mexico. Are today's young going to do that or just complain about their struggles
1:42 Let's be clear that affirmative action is not in place to make things easier for minorities. Minorities are not incapable of performing at the same high level as whites. Affirmative action is in place to PROTECT minorities against unfair hiring practices. A racist employer may turn away a qualified candidate because of skin color but lie that the person wasn't qualified. It's 2024 and racism still exists. Since we can't read minds, we need laws in place to make sure people are not behaving like assholes. Has affirmative action changed over the past fews years?!

That is exactly what affirmative action has done, intended or not. An Asian student with multiple international international gold medals is treated about the same as a Black valedictorian with a 1580 SAT and is a member of 2 clubs.

Anti intellectualism seems to be the name of the game. Glad I earned my undergraduate degree from the USAFA and have my post grad degree from another fine institution.
Unfortunately, the universities have themselves been anti intellectual by quashing free speech and thought on campus and spoonfeeding leftist propaganda to students. That is why I think that anyone who obtained a college degree, especially from an "elite" college, over the past 30 years or so probably became less intellectual once they graduated.

It would also be nice if college degree programs could get rid of the “well rounded” fluff stuff and just focus on the classes needed for their major. This would literally shread at least 1.5-2 years off the time in their degree programs.

What you find in "liberal arts" are things like English 101 and other subjects designed to catch students up with the actual program/degree curriculum, and real fluff like "Religious worlds of China" which would be irrelevant but included coursework for a physics major like myself.

Not true. I personally know five people that had their student loans forgiven. Lots of people got student loan forgiveness.

Good thought here. I can definitely see some employers viewing a free degree as less of a sacrifice.
Given the behaviors and statements made by students of "elite" colleges in the past year or so, I think that many employers would want to hire the free university students over others. They would probably be people who understand the value of hard work, respecting others, and be willing to listen and take criticism, unlike the entitled spoiled brat "snow flakes" being churned out by so many universities. They probably would be more creative and innovative, since they would not have been programmed to just regurgitate the party line, the way so many current college graduates are.

We saw successful Trump was at having a college. A degree in one state may not be equal if each state does their own thing. Just brings more uncertainty to me.

Most degrees are useless unless you're in stem. College is overrated and creates debt for young people. I have a useless degree in economics I own two small businesses with my wife who is from Singapore with no degree. Trade schools are what kids should be focu8sing on.

My friend went to the trump university I'm quite sure they closed down on him and he wasn't able to finish and got a letter stating he had to pay the program in full b4 being paid back any of it, but he couldn't get a long term jib with it because the program closed down.

The divided states of America
Well yeah. Thats the whole idea. Everyone wants something different. The 50 states are all supposed to be DIFFERENT to support 50 different ideologies. That way everyone can live in a state pretty close to the government they want.

Always has been. FYI, I live in California and a lot of our dollars have gone to poor red states.
It's the education system that is dividing America with universities students to hate their country and school trying to get students to hate each other through CRT.
So many kids don't pursue higher education because of cost. Even us older adults who want to take classes or get our degree don't because of the cost. I hope his free university works, I really do.

The collages are only considered " left leaning" in the fact that they promote open dialogue and sharing of ideas. This leads to advancements in technology and societies quicker than the more conservative " that's not quite how we do things " approach. Just talk to students who have been raised and taught with the mindset that Trump is going to require. You will find many find they are unequipped and often intimidated by the advancements taking place around them.

1:52 correction… AA did make it “easier” for admittance. It made it possible for minorities, including women, to receive a fair chance. That was the purpose… there is no leg up other than simply being considered despite not being male and not being white. HUGE difference.

HS does not give you the high skills and go straight to the industry. You will have to do a HS internship in a well know college or better yet a university with a well established reputation.
Dude, vocational schooling is still around. Where do you live? I can learn vocational skills at my local community college, auto mechanic, electrician, welding, etc. Hell, I can go to a union apply and they will school you 3 to 4x a week, give you a job, and pay at minimum $20 per hour. Where do you live that this isn't available?

American University already exists in DC. Who wants to move to DC to go to college. If he wants to address corruption in school funding, he needs to look no further than Florida takes federal funds for charter schools. They also invests funds in the stock market. They have mostly charter schools that run from what parents pay in tuition and property taxes. Florida schools is triple dipping their finances and still have crappy schools in low income areas.
Bingo! Its really awful what DeSantis has done to FL schools. We don't have many charters is my county but the private schools are popping up to get that money.

honestly, I think it would be better if we had a national education program. Reading is reading, no matter in which state you live. If you move with your family for work and your child has to go to school in another state, it sort of messes things up for them. It seems to add more work if we have 50 different education programs as opposed to just one. Right now every state and every district is reinventing the wheel, in terms of what is being taught. In addition, the whole system would work better if there were non-government affiliated, practicing teachers who were in charge of the education standards, not government officials or office workers who haven't seen the inside of a classroom for over 30 years!
Would templates be a good idea for the kind of situation u mentioned? If Dept of Edu had systems in place that did work, then could those systems or instruction sets (along w/ template supporting documents) be sent to each state's Dept of Edu?
@@Conversation_Guy well, they sort of did this with the Common Core, though states that opted out have ended up creating curriculum similar to common core. So, let me give you an example. There is supposedly a science to reading . I had to take a year long course in this as a teacher. I moved and now I have to take basically the same course in Virginia (though the Texas course was more rigorous, but basically the same idea). So, if all these states are recognizing that there is a science to teaching reading, the science should be the same in all states. Why waste money and time by having states do their own thing? It really does not make sense to me!

Hopefully, Ryan makes more videos where we could possibly talk more about education & related topics, subjects here. :) I find education a necessary, required path to fulfill goals. I spoke with a gent who's a bit older than myself about some things & he reminded me of the previous few generations. He said they didn't have internet. So they'd have to get real resourceful w/ whichever library they could get to & if their parents could afford it, mail order or otherwise buy encyclopedias. I was kind of at a loss of words when he said that because I've bn on internet all my life just about. I'd probly have thought about things & wrote about them a whole lot more instead of consulting google. I used to consult google day in & day out. I still do but not neearly as much.
Thank You so much for the video!! It’s comforting to hear that funding for low income families will not be affected. As a Single Mom finances can be a true struggle. FAFSA doesn’t cover everything, but at least it gets you started. And there is always the option of working on the side until you achieve your set goals. That’s what I did when I was in school. This thing about College Forgiveness. It’s not good. It doesn’t teach you responsibility. There is a sense of achievement when you are actually able to pay what you borrowed. Great for your credit history. It teaches you money management. Forgiving a debt. Is Not realistic to real life. It’s terrible work ethic. I think it’s unfair for the many that didn’t get their Loans forgiven and Schools should be focused in educating anyway. Politics and or any kind of Ideology should not have any control over how they are run a school. Federal ..State .. Locals- it really matters who is Leading.. not only in Government but in Educational Institutions. May we always fine people in these places that are just and fair to everyone

Pretty funny how the idea of a free accredited education is so appalling to most democratics right now. They only say they want it to draw in votes and then never deliver. at the end of the day they just want to monopolize the education system and use it as a status symbol for their rich elite families. what would be great is a federally recognized college degree designed for students who have taken three classes at this university five classes at this college, two classes at this school etc while meeting the requirements for a degree in biology or mathematics or whatever but… obviously not meeting the requirements for having a degree from a specific university (because they didn't take a minimum of 72 or 75 credits at that specific institution).

Student loan forgiveness was given to almost 800 plus Americans and would have benefited more if Conservatives and their groups won't have blocked it. I guess giving my tax dollars to billionaires in tax cuts is ok, but helping working folk was to much.
Student loan forgiveness was just buying votes and avoiding responsibility. If you couldn't afford college, you shouldn't have taken the loans and you absolutely don't have the right to push your debt onto someone else because you couldn't handle it.

You haven’t addressed that universities don’t fund their students, local or out of state . The advantage of federal department of education, they regulate the interest rate and have the loans available, the states only regulate up to high school. Things are on the federal level for a reason, states cannot help for higher education, only at the federal level will they control interest gouging.
Trump wants to fund this by taxing, fining, and suing private university endowment funds. Good Luck with that.

Our “politics in schools” helps protect people and move society forward through education and good practice, not intimate and single people out hindering human decency and good civil conduct. Making space for everyone is how our country has gotten as far as it has over previous decades. Trump is aiming to make our education system like him: A Chaotic Failure.
It's already a failure. My brother in law has a billion dollar company and my lifelong friend has nine businesses employing over 1,800 people. They would tell you how difficult it is to hire kids just out of college, and it's the worst they've ever seen. Is your head in the sand?

A very real fear are the recent updates in FAFSA for mixed status families (families with children born in the United States but parents who do not have a SSN) Are their family's information still safe through FERPA?? There is literally a checkbox with "I do not have an SSN" followed by questions of phone number, email, and home address and if a student does not enter any parent information they are only eligible for UNsubsidized loans. This is setting back first generation students by creating financial barriers to education. Students who ARE US citizens!
Can you tell me if Trump is getting rid of FaFsa? I have a college student's right now, and we need Financial aid. My college student is worried about lossing Financial aid of school.
It's very unlikely he gets rid of FAFSA. It might change and be done at the State level. But it sounds like that would be a more logistical thing, and wouldn't change much on the student end. The one thing I can see changing if it's done at the state level... States may require you to attend a school in-state, or online with FAFSA money.

Prepare to digest four chapters a week and sit in the chair at graduation and the reality hits you made it through. What's next?
That is the best thing in core education. I graduated from the university in 1991 with a BA in Theology and a masters in phycology which I graduated in 1993. We were taught core education not this BS crap they are teaching now. So going back to basics is the best option.

Respectfully, I disagree with a few points. While I agree that societal issues take up a large part of campus life, I do not believe the universities as institutions overall, are inherently left-leaning. The students, maybe. I believe Trump is anti anything that is anti Trump, so I do believe the "education system overhual" will be very detrimental to any voices not right-leaning. As to the dissolution of Department of Education, my biggest concern is that one of their most important roles is to protect minorities rights for equality in education. This country has a documented history of racism and misogyny in educational opportunities.

You're being intellectually dishonest to think that the education system is not the only truly systemically racist institution in the USA. Continuation of the status quo is to continue with racial and socioeconomic oppression. The real argument is how do we fix the education system and thus the oppression. School choice will be one of the most consequential forces to upend current system. I haven't heard compelling arguments for keeping the department of education, it seems to be adding unnecessary layers of bureaucracy.

I also see it at the graduate school level. I also see it with higher paying jobs in the USA. I am an educator. @@sharonkaysnowton there are inequities in our society but the idea that policies are the solution is a good question to ask. If greater than 50% of public school educated minorities are forced to go schools that provide "below grade level" education, that system is racist. There will always be racism, sexism, homophobia but the impact of those factors is highly variable and does not create real oppression. If you have a credential, that will generally guarantee your success in most sectors. I do think dei and HR enhance our country, but overemphasizing DEI creates a major division in our country.

For those that already have multiple degrees and want to learn new skills or subjects, I would be willing to pay a small monthly fee to the inline American University to take these classes because I am a nerd. Also, there are many frustrated adjunct professors that struggle to get consistent classes so this may be a good option for them as well.

yes we need to copy norway schools .... i believe its them who dont give homework.... montessori style education works best..just give school choice with money following the child.... no early start times especially for teenagers, no tests, no grades and NO HOMEWORK...FOSTER NATURAL talents, imagination, curiosity, interests, creativity, thinking outside the box.... let the student learn what its naturally interested in and every child will be a genius ❤❤❤
I'm a college sophomore studying environmental science and climate change in an online distance program in Maine. I live in Alabama. I know my financial aid will be revoked because of what I study. This de-funding of "liberal ideologies" will shut down my university, and I cant pay tuition out of pocket as a full time student and mom. This is heartbreaking... I'm about to loose everything I worked for over the past 3 years.
I haven't seen any reports that environmental science or studies in climate change are going to get de-funded. You should be ok.

DEI wasn't actually implemented for college students. Grant funding was made available to colleges that made DEI part of their admin. When the funding ended, the DEI departments closed. Same for corporate settings who were participants in the 2030 Agenda plan of the WEF/IMF. It's associated in part with open borders that are happening in western nations aka NATO nations.

Unrecognized degrees (of the one-year sort) are not worth investing in; recognized college diplomas are, for example those achieved through international baccalaureate programmes like those on offer in the urban regions of Quebec and similar states around the world.

1. Yes, absolutely get Affirmative Action and DEI out of higher education. These things are dying in the workplace, and if they aren't needed there, then they should not be needed in the institutions of higher learning that are qualifying people to work in those workplaces.
2. I think that financial aid should be available for people to study the core curricula for their individual majors. However, students should pay out of their own pockets for electives that interest them. So if someone values knowing about astrology, the influence of space aliens on ancient civilizations, underwater basket-weaving, etc.--or even current leftist, hot-button topics like CRT and gender studies, etc.--they will still be able to pay someone to teach them these subjects.
I think it's great as long as the credits are transferable.

You'll still be able to attend wherever you want. If government grants go to the state level it's possible that some states will only grant funding if you stay within the state, or online... and not pay for you to leave the state, live on campus and attend a school elsewhere. Not that you can't attend... just that your state might not pay for you to do so. And if it is at the state level... it will be up to the states to make those decisions. So you'd likely see different policies in different states. We'll see what happens. It's likely going to take a long time for any big shifts like this to happen.

Depends on the medical degree. For example, you can't hack medical school. But you can hack something like Healthcare Management, or Health Science. That's a good question... I don't see it closing any time soon. And if things change, the transition shouldn't be too difficult on the student end. Most of the changes should be on the administrative end.
The federal government should stop involving themselves in funding free higher education. That's not their role.

No government funding is ok with me. It would force colleges to have training that actually is beneficial to the students career desires. Instead of the classes that are social indoctrinational BS.

Can the states get rid of the standard test. I know in TX; we have the STAAR. I have spoken with teachers and they are teaching students to pass the test; not necessarily teaching core curriculum. Just curious what other people think?
That I believe came from GW Bush. Not a great idea (the test). Our State scrapped it years ago. Guessing Texas decided to keep it.

Thank you for sharing this information in light of the recent elections. We had no idea how much these changes would impact education, but for the most part, the effects will be ositive. Competition fosters better innovation and technology, as well as lower prices, even among colleges. It is ridiculous that some institutions raise their tuition simply because the government is providing more financial aid to help disadvantaged students. Let’s hope we can put an end to this practice.
