Why can't you teach them to respect the light pressure of your leg after the weight shift? Spurs are not needed to teach this. Just my opinion.

Ask yourself this, what will you do if you shift your weight, use light leg pressure, a verbal cue and nothing happens?

@@edswalkinghorses doesn't happen with my training methods. Never needed spurs. Used them cos I was taught trad dressage, but never needed them. Then ditched them.
What will you do if they don't listen WITH spurs. Same question.
If you start using them, you will always need them. Horses get used to what they are accustomed to. If you teach yield to light pressure, they will always yield.
      Cheers. Appreciate your vids.

@@edswalkinghorses if that didn't work, I'd go back to basics, btw. And work work work. Spurs are a leg extension. Use your legs and seat correctly and spurs are completely unnecessary.
      Just my opinion. Thx.
