This basically means at some point we're gonna have actors who "never die" with enough voice lines and face motion capture done they can keep using them forever.
what you have is a COPY of face of an actor. That doesnt mean you have immortal actor on the screen, you wont have his emotions, his unique acting and point of view how to act in exact scene. All you have is a face.

Visually and technically this is incredible, but you can tell this isn't Angelina's acting because (and no disrespect to Alicia) Angelina moves with so much grace when she's on screen. I wish Hollywood would consider to bring back Angelina Jolie to carry on with Lara but playing as an older Lara Croft which is a side of Lara that we haven't seen before...so it has to be rebooted and it has to be R rated with intense moments and gruesome stuff but also even more action packed...I think that would be cool. And Alicia can still of course carry on with her version too just to make it fair.
I don't think it would necessarily need to be an older Lara. Angelina isn't old and doesn't even look as old as she is. The problem is that Hollywood and society in general already consider a person in their forties old

You're incredibly talented! I'm no technical wizard and embarrassed to say, the technology of how this is possible goes way over my head - I literally find it unbelievable that it can look this good. When the subject is looking side-on, it can sometimes look a little wrong, but face-on... sometimes it looks utterly perfect and that's when I'm awestruck. How on earth is this possible!!!! I really think studios should push harder and harder with this technology as it would solve a lot of cringey issues like when they recast in Star Trek and Star Wars.
IIRC they had an AI that could guess real and fake faces, then had another AI try to make fake faces that could fool it, and had them play against each other millions of times until the faking AI became almost unbeatable. This is that AI.

There are so many technical challenges here. When I was messing around with Faceswap, it would fail to capture facial sideviews, fart itself whenever more than one face appeared in the scene, start flickering whenever there was obstruction in front of the face... Your work is Hollywood quality. If you used Faceswap you definitely used Villain model, but I still don't know how you overcame the other challenges. Very well done.

I don't think this really works, because Alicia Vikander's jawline and chin are a different shape to Angelina Jolie's and so the deepfakes tend to look like Jolie's nose and eyes set above Vikander's chin and mouth. The effect kind-of worked at the front-desk scene, but that was under the best possible condition of having Lara Croft looking mostly dead-on, straight into the camera. It particularly didn't work in scene with the bow at @00:28 to @00:58, where there really doesn't seem to be any difference between the untouched and deepfaked version.
It is a bit jarring seeing her head on a bookies pen of a body but that’s more because Vikander has the mass of a mouses fart as opposed to the actual deep fake. The deep fake it’s self is actually brain frazzlingly good.

Yes. Copyright and Privacy Policy wise we need more laws for this. Like, having those actors give a signature for allowing them to use their faces. By that, this RUclipsrs like Shamook would also not be allowed to publish deepfakes, at least not monetized.

Imagine being able to assemble all the actors you want to see in your favourite movie in a menu screen and assign them roles you want them to have and then watch your own custom movie....
I usually say: " It's still the original actor's performance, with a different face."
So either Alicia did a phenomenal job recreation Angelina's mannerisms, or the AI implemented them.
Deepfakes don't recreate mannerisms, they literally copy and paste an actor's face on another actor's performance.
So at some point maybe we can select which actors we want in different roles when starting a movie

Angelina would for sure act completely different. There is nothing similar to how Angelina behaves and moves. Although the deepfake effect is great.
Not gonna Angelina jolie face makes tomb raider , tomb raider. And she is just so fit for Lara croft. Seeing the whole movie with deep fake would be awesome. Even these small part in comparison really change the feeling.

I don't think this really works, because Alicia Vikander's jawline and chin are a different shape to Angelina Jolie's and so the deepfakes tend to look like Jolie's nose and eyes set above Vikander's chin and mouth.
The effect kind-of worked at the front-desk scene, but that was under the best possible condition of having Lara Croft looking mostly dead-on, straight into the camera.
It particularly didn't work in scene with the bow at @00:28 to @00:58, where there really doesn't seem to be any difference between the untouched and deepfaked version.
It is a bit jarring seeing her head on a bookies pen of a body but that’s more because Vikander has the mass of a mouses fart as opposed to the actual deep fake. The deep fake it’s self is actually brain frazzlingly good.
