    Forwards decide who wins, backs decide by how much.
    Now that comes with caveats, but those come in the form of great players in the backline, especially the halves, having absolutely dominant games.
    Do I think that Hughes and Munster can drag their team to a win if their forward pack gets bullied, with the likes of Iceman and Luai on the other side? Not really. Cleary's got the biggest boot of the 4 by far, and any time the Storm get back into good field position he'll just kick them back down field.
    Penrith to win. Fish or Yeo for Clive Churchill. Penrith will win via their forward pack.

    • @TheLeaguie
      @TheLeaguie  13 часов назад +1

      Yeah I definitely agree with that analysis. The way around it for storm is taking chances out of their own end. Either that, or the Storm outside backs need to make a heap of strong carrys out of their own end (which would be a very Penrith way of doing things)

      And too me I've already said it but NAS makes all the difference imo
      Now that his not playing the storm are completely reliant on their spine and tbh I don't think it's enough don't get me wrong papi, Hughes, muster and grant fantastic players but the panther are going to dominate down the middle leaving way to much space and eventually I think storm will crack under the pressure of luai and cleary who really do like to dance with the ball in hand and once their forwards have provided space it's over luai or cleary are gon make a break and it's going to repeat until panthers win
      I still think it'll be hard for the panthers they will struggle also the point of panthers loosing to storm twice in the regular season
      That didn't stop them from curb stomping eels in 2022

    Honestly it almost feels like people are exagerating how nelson's being suspended could impact melbourne's performance, the storm have beaten penrith without nelson this year.
    Like yes Nelson brings the impact but he only plays for around half the game depending on his performance, so its harsh to discredit the rest of melbourne's forward pack especially players like King and Katoa.
    Here is an example:
    In round 1 the storm's forward pack played a huge roll to hold penrith to 0, despite penrith's forward pack being way better on paper.
    Forward Packs (Round 1):
    Penrith = Leota, Fisher-Harris, Garner, Martin, Yeo.
    Storm = Kamikamica, King, Chan, Katoa, Loiero.
    However:
    The lineups have changed every time these two teams have played this year so i think it could go either way.
    ^^^^
    (Also Nelson's impact in the second match up (rnd-24) could be seen as negative as it almost cost them the game (i.e. the sin bin))
    Also the grand final is much more high pressure and having to bring in a rookie to fill in that spot can be a concern.

    • @TheLeaguie
      @TheLeaguie  9 часов назад +1

      Yeah look, that's clearly a very well thought-out argument and I absolutely take the points you've made. To me though, you just can't use regular season games to predict how a grand final is going to play out.
      While we didn't see the best of the Penrith forwards, especially in Round One, I've got no doubt we'll see the best of them on Sunday. That's what has me very concerned from a Storm perspective.

    4:53 alternatively, you could say the roosters were without an origin player for the entire final against melbourne, which may have even cost them a place in the grand final, although unlikely. unfortunately I think nas should have realised doing something like that would result in consequences especially right before the grand final.

    Last week both sides had flat periods coming out of half time. The roosters scored 2 tries to make it 24-18 and the Sharks scored to make it 10-6 against Penrith. It will be interesting to see which team is able exploit the oppositions weaknesses better. I hope Melbourne win the grand final and I think Cameron Munster will be awarded with the Clive Churchill medal.

    • @TheLeaguie
      @TheLeaguie  9 часов назад

      Good point. In terms of exploiting weaknesses during that period, that's where I very much back the Storm. But in terms of wrestling back that momentum and managing the game to it's conclusion... that's Nathan Cleary's bread and butter.

    • @democite
      @democite 14 часов назад +1

      Taylan May situation was quite a bit of a different circumstance and came from an off field incident before the season even started, not to say it was handled correctly but its not a one for one comparison

    • @TheLeaguie
      @TheLeaguie  14 часов назад +2

      With Taylan, I thought it was the wrong decision at the time to delay his suspension. I’d rather the NRL just admit they got that wrong, rather than stick to a precedent we all sorta found ridiculous

    • @democite
      @democite 14 часов назад

      @TheLeaguie yeah for sure, and honestly it was a bit of bad luck on his part as the court precedings for the incident just happened to finalise at finals time, which I thought is the direction the NRL would have taken the reasoning in rather than just saying he needs to play finals "for the fans", his actions this year really hasn't helped the optics of it either
