@@HistoryMysteryMan When we entered junior high school we went our separate ways. I do remember one time at junior high when he and Baron Hill who later went into politics were going to fight. It was by the gymnasium and the crowd gathered was fairly large. There was the usual chest puffing and trash talk then Baron took a swing and John stepped back claiming he had something in his eye. The fight ended after that.

I grew up in Seymour with my 7 brothers. I love that city, however, after graduating high school and going to college I had to go to a close big city to get a high paying job. My younger brother Lynn was in Seymour Senior High School with John Mellencamp and I was in advanced choir with his older brother Joe, which was quite a good singer in his own right.

No one's music ever captured the heart, sole and grit of small town America as well as Mellencamp. Terrific story teller..."Troubled Man" has become one of his classics. How do you like the big city?
