I see all the great landscape and thinks, panorama. Not a dedicated series, a wide flex of shoots that can cropped, combined and edited to taste back at home, as you can seemingly are overwhelmed by raw and beautiful landscape of that are remote location. Thx , great content!
Your images may not have reflected the awesomeness to your satisfaction... but your videos did to me! And I really have to remember to start using the phrase "It's absolutely blowing a hooley". :)
TIL: "Blowing a hooley!" I'm going to use that one. New t-shirt slogan: "Rocks, mountains, sky, oh my!" Good stuff. There was a whole lot of smiling going on. I had a "not a wildlife photog" moment in Maui last month when I had great timing catching a humpback leaping out of the water only to have it end up out of focus. Yours are much better ;-) Thank you for taking us along!
Glad you enjoyed it, much sooner you than me, boats and me don't mix unless I am photographing them from the shore.... 🤣🤣🤣 The fox photographs must have made you day, would have made mine.
Great adventure in this fantastic Heaton location. I'm glad to see that the Nikon Z7II held up through snow, freezing rain and all manner of inclement weather.
Absolutely wonderful! I thoroughly enjoyed watching your adventure and perhaps you are a wildlife photographer as well!! And now polar bears awesome!!!
Sometimes just capturing the memories is enough. Besides of that, your fox images are very nice and enjoy those, instead of thinking about what you've could done better.
Sorry you were disappointed in your landscape photography, but your landscape video was awesome ! As were your wildlife images. I loved watching these videos, and as always, learned a lot. Thank you !
I feel like this area/trip for you is something that I learned from you years back: just because it's amazing scenery, doesn't mean it'll be an amazing photo (though, all your photos are amazing, but I can see how you can feel the struggle)
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto what you may have felt that you couldn't convey though your photos was wonderfully conveyed through your storytelling in your videos. Keep up the amazing work.
All of the photos are fantas-tic. As an asian, who would never travel there. This is an eye-candy treat for me. And as a photographer, this superbly inspire me to go out and shoot and have an adventure myself.
What a great adventure! It’s easy to get hooked on wildlife photography! I do 50/50 between landscape and wildlife! Variety is the spice of life! Thanks for taking me along!
Been an enjoyable series Thomas seeing the challenges of what you had to contend with along with the images that you were able to capture. As you summed up at the end, the adventure is as important as coming back with images that you are happy with. Appreciate the commitment you put in to your channel in order to share your work with us
As an amateur photographer, I love the most wild life and as you follower always wondered why such a fit and great photographer you never had interest! Now that you have, I am looking forward to see more of your wild life videos 😊 thanks 🙏
I find when I am excited about a shot in the field, it rarely impresses me when I get home, while a photo walk that feels disappointing at the time often leads to a few 'sleeper hits' when I get them home.
You got the shot 😁 But your title. I don't feel so bad now, lol. I honestly leave almost every session saying this. I feel better once I look at the images, but I always feel like I need to go back when I leave a place.
Hey! I wanted to stop by and give you a shoutout for your latest video - it was seriously awesome and so informative! Your content always hits the mark, and I really appreciate how much you share your knowledge with us. Sending good vibes all the way from Spain. I hope you're having a great day, and keep crushing it with your amazing work!
The shot of that Arctic Fox was just EPIC! That's the kind of shot that people just wouldn't believe was even possible! Now, Tom, tell me something? Y'know when your camera froze over, did you just have to wait till it thawed out and then it was fine again, or was there any lasting damage? I wouldn't trust the weather sealing on mine. But then again, I'm not likely to go out when it's -25! or whatever! 🤣🤣
Nailed those fox shots! I hope to see more wildlife photography content in the future! Maybe something to try during those difficult summer months along with the IR converted camera?
Fantastic video, thanks for sharing. You continue to amaze us mere mortals with your enthusiasm, determination and commitment regardless of the project or situation.
Beautiful Thomas!! Nice to get a shot of the subject in it's environment with such a wide focal length. You might enjoy the vlog I uploaded yesterday when shooting Emperor Penguins in Antarctica!!!
Hey Thomas! Don’t beat yourself up for not finding the angle you would want to find during your adventure. I was in iceland 2 weeks ago and sometimes I found it also genuinely difficult to capture the beauty that is right in front of us. Sometimes it is a mixture of being at the right place at the right time. All that matters in the end is your experience capturing that shot and your story behind it. Don’t overthink your shots and go for it
Good video Thomas. You definitely should get into wildlife photography. I've been doing both for years and I reckon the two go hand in hand. Whenever possible I take gear to do both - if conditions don't suit landscapes, more often than not you can find some interesting wildlife, and vice versa
Outstanding story telling Tom! 🏆Amazing fox shots. Can definitely relate to the landscape disappointment. Tough to nail it on the first visit sometimes. Keep it up! Very inspiring!
Are you using Kase Wolverine, Thomas? Kase circular magnetic filters does have an ND grad. It split at the mid point, so more limited, but sometimes I find it useful. If you buy one of their kits (for larger than you need) you can even get an adapter that allows some degree of adjustment for the filter. That said, in my view 95% of the time, it's simpler to do gradation non-destructively in post and do an exposure blend if dynamic range is challenging.
Such a shame you couldn't work it out for the landscape, but hey, you had the experience to be so close to a wild arctic fox in its natural habitat and that's awesome!
Thomas, for what it's worth, I enjoyed following along with your adventure. When I'm faced with bleak monochrome winter landscapes, I usually turn to black and white and try to get creative with high key and low key edits. Some work, some do not some are just train wracks. Coming from a background in wildlife photography, I enjoyed the fox footage.
I absolutely love your videos Thomas. Health issues limit my photo trips to around the yard and an occasional nearby drive...what an epic experience. Thanks for sharing it with us.🎉
Wow that's quite an adventure! Um did you throw in a northern lights time lapse in an exotic location without even mentioning it???oh and the rainbow ......!
I really enjoyed the triptych of videos from this trip Thomas! The images are stunning. Quick question: did you film on the Fujifilm X-T4 and photograph with the Nikon Z7II on this adventure? I think the gear page is outdated on your website as I don't see the Nikon on there. They're just tools, I know, but I'm always curious about the behind-the-scenes aspects of field work.
Awesome video Thomas thanks for taking us on the adventure with you. The polar bear trip sound fantastic, It is something that has been on my bucket list for years.
what an exemplary viewing experience, this and the previous from this adventure. thank you so much for taking us on such a thrilling adventure, glad you and those expensive bags made it onto the boat ok and how very special those captures of the sweet fluffy fox, smiling, were. a wonderful filming job, given all you were dealing with. take another bow, thomas☺
I tired this last week on a Z6. I used PS to blend the blurry JPEG with a clean RAW of the same scene. With a pen tool, you can paint in abstract elements and create beautiful images.
i have that same shimoda bag and fell in a river in costa rica and completely submerged it. Fearing the worst I opened it up to my amazement was bone dry on the inside. Love Shimoda!
At 2:20 that is an impressive wide-angle closeup shot of that fox. Cou I d you inside if had that GFX100s or the 150MP beast? Yeah I know doesn't really matter... just yankin' your chain.
Most of the video segments look gray and bleak. I'm happy you got some actual sky now and then. The fox was fun, but just a distraction, really. Happy to know that you survived this trip!!! Maybe try a different season, if there is a next time?
Look out Morten, Thomas will be photographing polar bears next. 😀 It seems like you've been bitten by the wildlife bug, when will that long glass become part of your kit? You captured some really beautiful fox images.
have got to admit I enjoyed the fox images more then the landscapes on this adventure ... I really appreciate the wide angle videos as I always try to pick out the feature or features that you will key in on before you do the image ... keep it up
A thoroughly enjoyable trip for us! I know that feeling of disappointment, however I think your stellar collection of Arctic Fox images are something to be really proud of. The ones in the previous episode showing the snow whipping past tell a beautiful story about the brutal environment. Then your wide angle shot this week gives the landscape context. After seeing your Arctic Fox images I find it hard to imagine a landscape image on its own being able to convey as much.
I like the image of the river and the mountains.. I think you should crop a little.. I don't like doing it, but in this case I think it can change a lot. I use to travel and do landscape photography in Colombia and trying to do it again.
I really enjoyed the last 2 videos Tom , the diversity of that landscape leaves a lot to get your head around , nothing to see and yet you produce content that we as your followers love to see , you have to make the best of the situation and personally I think that you achieved this , from your determination to capture that mountain range , no electricity , no toilets to speak of , I could go on and on, but to me you are one of the top photographers in the U.K. , and your vlogs are not to shabby either 😊 , roll on next Wednesday
Hi Phil, thanks a lot for your kind words. I wouldn't put myself in the top UK photographers, but I appreciate the sentiment a lot. Most importantly, I'm glad that you have enjoyed these videos 👍
Maybe the landscape photographs where a bit lackluster. But your fox shoots are super nice, one coul easily mistaken you for a wildlife photographer ;) As always great video and looking forward to seeing future adventures!
I just watched your video about Hornstrandir and I was blown away by the stunning images you captured. Your ability to convey the rugged beauty and untamed wilderness of this remote Icelandic region is truly remarkable. As a fellow photographer, I know how challenging it can be to capture the essence of a place and tell a visual story through your images. But you have a real talent for it, and I think it's important to recognize and celebrate that. Your passion for photography and dedication to your craft is truly inspiring. Watching your videos and seeing your photos always motivates me to push myself harder and strive for excellence in my own work. Thank you for sharing your art with the world, and for being such a positive influence on the photography community. I look forward to following your journey and continuing to be inspired by your incredible work.
Hi Cristan, thanks so much for your thoughtful comment. I really appreciate it, although I fell liked I struggled with capturing that rugged beauty in a photo. Next time.
02:17 this shoot and 5 minutes of Video would have been equal to all the rest you have shot! simple and beautifully composed 3:50 beautiful! but the fox is fantastic 05:18 but not as good and 2:17 agreed 9:39 is one for the must return file! the cloud and subject is great all it lacks is light! Great Video! thanks for sharing! The next adventure sounds great
I see all the great landscape and thinks, panorama. Not a dedicated series, a wide flex of shoots that can cropped, combined and edited to taste back at home, as you can seemingly are overwhelmed by raw and beautiful landscape of that are remote location.
Thx , great content!
The look on the foxes face in the wide angle shot "You still here? I thought you were leaving today"!!!!!!!!! 😅😂🤣
Had a little chuckle. Couple of buckets of water for the lavvy, then just sit and wait! (Oh and the Fox image was stunning.)
You’re like the Bob Ross of landscape photography, when you want something calm & cool to watch turn on Thomas
This is the best comparison ever
It is an honour to be compared to the legend himself, Bob Ross. 👍👍 Glad you enjoyed it.
Absolutely gorgeous fox shots!
Great video I loved it , and fantastic images.
That’s an epic and loved the snow fox. You really are living the dream, warts, rough crossings and all. 👏👍
Foxes are amazing! Such beautiful creatures.
Thank you for sharing as always. Looking forward to the trip information about the polar bears.
Your images may not have reflected the awesomeness to your satisfaction... but your videos did to me! And I really have to remember to start using the phrase "It's absolutely blowing a hooley". :)
Love the fox photos...an amazing exhibition Thom. Wonderful. M ☘️ happy paddy's day
You're too harsh with yourself (aren't we all?).
Fantastic journey and a great series! I really enjoyed it. 😊

i dont think i've ever commented on a youtube video but damn, that wide angle image of the fox with the mountains is stunning
Glad you enjoyed it, much sooner you than me, boats and me don't mix unless I am photographing them from the shore.... 🤣🤣🤣 The fox photographs must have made you day, would have made mine.
Great adventure in this fantastic Heaton location. I'm glad to see that the Nikon Z7II held up through snow, freezing rain and all manner of inclement weather.
the only reason i would be okay with losing my memory is so that I could rediscover your channel and your marvelous content. 😌
Fantastic. Thank you. All the best. 👍📷😎

Thanks for taking us with you from the warmth of the couch of course :-)
The image of fox and his eyes are amazing.
That fox shot deserves a print to buy!
You make everything look so easy :D

Great series Tom, really enjoyed that insight to a bit of Iceland rarely seen.
Cracker of an episode. Thoroughly enjoyed it

Oh Tom, such great photos of the foxes !!!
Excellent video Thomas
What a trip this was! I love that first fox photo.
What an adventure. Amazing experience and landscape. Don't think I would like that boat ride though. Loved the fox images.
I think you did amazingly well.
