Millia's name comes from Meliah Rage, a American thrash-metal band from the 1980s. It was named after the Meliah tribe, who used opium before battles to fall in a battle rage. Rage is also a German metal band, which had a solid success in Japan. Also, since i'm brazilian, is awesome that the spell that she receive to get her hair powers is called Angra(The brazilian power metal band)
@@iscarvalho krl, quando escutei essa música pela primeira vez eu pensei direto em Carry On só pq sim kkkkk, agora q eu descobri q o poder dela se chama Angra, só pode ser referência kkkkkkkk
The "subhuman self" the song is referring to is the Forbidden Beast (basically a magi-technological living weapon) Angra, which lets her control her hair. She's struggled with controlling it for her time in the game, but this seems to be her learning to accept and coexist with it.
Could also be referring to Zato considering he's currently less than human, being possessed by Eddie and has no emotions aside from love for Millia and no one else, and all
I recommend Armor Clad Faith, also from Guilty Gear Strive. It’s one of my favourite tracks from the game. The theme belongs to the character Potemkin.
Small progressions and leitmotifs of themes persist through most character songs, but they definitely try to shake it up and leave it mostly to small nods of the previous themes, as far as Strive's OST is concerned. Kinda like easter eggs haha
Daisuke is indeed a mad man. There's a meme that's been going on in the GG community that Daisuke released his album and when you buy it you get the game with it. If you want a different flavour of GG music try listening to "Trigger" - Giovanna's theme from Strive.
I really wanna see your reaction to Bridget's theme, The Town Inside Me, from Strive. The backlog will take a long time to get through, especially with how recent this song is, but hopefully by the time it gets there, a version with official lyrics will exist. It's got early 00's pop vibes that work real well with her development in Strive's arcade story.
This song actually goes hand and hand with “Let me carve your way.” The male singer from that is in the background of this song and the female singer in this song is in the background of Let me carve your way. It’s because in the lore these 2 characters are very closely connected.
These GG & BB requests are S tier! Yeah, EVO was great this year! The SFV finals was bananas! Love the music choice btw. I haven't heard Makoto's theme in ages and forgot how much it slaps!
The metal screaming in that small part does have to do with her character, milia was raised as an assassin by Zato-1 her boss and lover but eventually she couldn't take it anymore and became a good guy. This whole song is about learning to love yourself again despite the "monster" inside and the male screaming is respresenting the Zato in her over riding her thoughts. (That's leaving out all the Zato dying, coming back to life but now emotionless and realising he fucked up and becoming a good guy and getting back with millia stuff)
When you look at a video that has every character theme, (minus the DLC characters) Millia's stands out as having the "most replayed" spot right at the start of hers, so APPARENTLY, it's a fan favorite. :)
the subhuman self refers to Millie view of herself. She spent most of her life as an assassin until the guilt of what she's done and Zato's becoming more and more corrupt and amoral caught up with her. She left the assassins guild but was hunted both by her past and literary hunted by Zato. Currently Millie has reconcile her past or at least tries to as she makes steps to work for an organization that will help the world as well as give her fellow former assassins work outside of the killing profession. The male vocal are meant to be Zato or at least his old angry, sadistic self before his resurrection in XRD.
Millia's entire story amounts to accepting her lot in life. Having spent most of her life as an assassin under Zato (who was VERY possessive of her), she eventually started yearning for a normal life and fled the Assassin's Guild. However, this only made her a hunted fugitive, and she had to ward off her former partners time and time again. She's also carrier of one of the 4 Forbidden Beasts: Angra, which is her entire hair. It has a limited consciousness, and follows Millia's commands, but it's basically like a symbiote, and Forbidden Beasts will eventually consume their host. "Love the Subhuman Self" is a reflection of Millia's dark life, and how an assassin, hands stained in blood, can never stop the business to live a normal life. She has learned to accept her role in the world, even if she doesn't like it, and continues to bear the burden of her regrets.
I would just like to say I appreciate you being an FGC guy, I feel like it gives these videos a much more interesting take knowing that you know what Fighting games are generally about.
Another classic from the gym playlist! It's always a good day when I see Guilty Gear coming up on your channel (even better when we get Persona on the same day!) and Love The Subhuman Self is yet another awesome Millia Rage theme. Glad to see that a lot of people compare the vocalist to Gwen Stefani - it immediately put me in mind of No Doubt when I first heard it. On first listen it was already an amazing song, but when the second vocalist joined in it absolutely cemented it as one of my all time favourite bits of VGM! Glad you enjoyed it Jesse
As far as character themes using previous game's motifs, I think the only one that has in every game is KY Kiske. Might be because Holy Orders (first theme for him) was so important to the character story and impacted him that much
What gets me about this song is that she's arguably talking about two different people at the same time The person she chose to become And the man who set her on that path in the first place Hence also the two vocalists Both acknowledging that things aren't the way either of them fully intended but they're both here now and they should make the most of what they have now
Bridget’s theme came out alongside her release after Evo, you should give it a listen at some point, it sounds very different from a lot of the other songs on the Strive soundtrack but it’s really great and ties in with her story in Strive incredibly well.
I look forward to you hearing the power ballad that is "Necessary discrepancy" or Ramlethal Valentine theme. The character has a really interesting and kinda cute story.
Her metal reference is that she's named 'Millia Rage', referencing the band Rage (which was pretty popular in japan) Some of her attacks are extremely clear references, like Winger and Iron Maiden, and the demon that lets her use her hair as a weapon(long story) is named Angra. You might want to check out her old song vs Zato 'Still in the Dark' (from Guilty Gear X), especially the vocal version because it goes hard as fuck.
this is one of my favorite themes from the game, love the singer's vocals with the metal behind it and then it goes into a crazy ass solo lmao i love it so much
I don't know if it's been brought up yet but the vocalist for this theme is an R&B singer named Aisha, she's done the vocals for a couple of the other themes including the newest character Bridget!
Main vocalist in this one goes by Aisha. She does all of the female vocals on the Strive soundtrack. The male vocalist is Jamison Boaz and he’s only on this track.
Heck yeah, super glad you reacted to this one and proud to have boosted. Everyone and their mom swears this is the best track in Strive, so it was a no brainer. (Personally I still think Let Me Carve Your Way is the best song in the game, though hehe)
If you like returning riffs or parts of previous themes, Ky's older theme, Holy Orders, had its main riffs from the beginning of the track placed in the bridge of Roar of the Spark
So this song is actually a parallel to Let Me Carve Your Way, it also has a character tied to another character (Angra is the name iirc, been a bit), and Millia and Zato have a close relationship me and others explained when ya watched Let Me Carve Your Way. This song is more in harmony between the two singers as Millia never struggled like Zato did with her powers, which parallels Zato's chaos with Eddie.

For ingame lore, Millia Rage is a Assassin who uses her hair controlled by magic as a weapon, she stuffs it in her hat for the most part couse ui'm guessing its at least 2,5 meters long. She had a romantic relationship with her Boss Zato-1 before he died the first time though these days that relationship has cooled down.
This song blew me away the first time I heard it. I have no idea how it managed that insane intro with the complete changes in chords, rhythm, and (I think?) time signature, but I just feel like it's them styling on us for the sake of it.
I would say this is still my favorite song of this game but the new DLC's character brought something just as good. I highly recommend hearing her song Extra.
Oh man more Strive hell yes. Bangers left and right. Now that you heard Millia's theme you should really listen to Zato's "Let me carve your way" since it has a very strong connection to this one. Also, I would recommend "Tsuki no Shihai" from Xrd
This slowly became my favorite tune on the entire soundtrack, im not a millia player but hearing it so much really bore its way into my brain and never let up.
So I've only seen GGS and GGXR and some story summaries so some or everything may be inaccurate, but since know one else has, let me explain. So Millia and Zato are both assassins and human weapons, Millia being able to turn her hair in weapons such as a blade or to wings, while Zato has a shadow demon called Eddie that lets him use his shadows to attack. But Millia didn't like the life of a assassin, so she tried taking her own life, but Zato saved her and taught her how to be a assassin, later she began to like him more until she realised she loved him. But the problem was no matter how well Zato trained her, he couldn't get rid of her hatred for assassinations and the Guild(the assassination company). Sadly she is given a mission to kill Zato who was now possessed by Eddie(shadow demon). You get 2 paths, one where Millia can't kill Eddie and he leaves Zato to die from his wounds, or Millia kills both Zato and Eddie. Though Eddie and Zato died, the Conclave(government company) used their body to test the "Art of Resurrection". This brings Eddie and Zato back to life, but Zato has lost all feeling, even his reason to live. That is until he meats Millia again. He feels something for the first time, he starts to care. He decides even though they both don't belong to the Guild and he has no will to live he decides to live for her. He becomes a assassin again. not for the guild, but to help the one he loves from the shadows. Love the Subhuman Self is about Milla trying to find a way to love( especially herself) again after killing Zato, while Let Me Carve Your Way is about Zato losing his reason for being until he finds Millia and he decides to be a assassin for he so she never has to go back to being a assassin. Sorry if I got anything wrong, again I started in GGXR and have seen only some summary videos. Also sorry for the long explanation but this type of games(Skullgirls, Tekken, Street fighters, etc.) for some reason have a pretty in depth story, I skipped like 70% of the story.
The metal growls are actually by a guy named Jamison Boaz who is most well known as playing Retsuko when she goes into death metal mode from the anime series Aggretsuko.
Such a great song. The chorus instantly gave me Sonata Arctica vibes mostly what came to mind was their song Unopened. Kinda similar bpm, maybe? Not sure but gave me a similar feeling.
This is the first guilty game that has character themes with lyrics and everyone of theme is really different because they are truly the character themes. It's not just a song but a storytelling if the character both in the song structure and in the lyrics, it's always really cool to sed such an amaizing work for a game
That duet part represents Milia's relationship with Zato-1, whose theme, Let Me Carve Your Way, also references Milia and how he felt about her. Depending on who you ask, the male vocals could even be Eddie, the puppet he controls, speaking for Zato, since their history left him devoid of emotion and sight. also that "damn dude" had me like "welcome to Milia's themes" lmao her songs only ever go hard
Guilty Gear does both, Leitmotiefs AND new themes, as the games Progress, characters change, either physically or in Personality/Find a new Purpose. Millia Rage in the early games is a Former Assasin on the run from her own Organization. In Strive she's in a Completely different situation.
Also if you want a Guilty Gear song that goes hard then may I recommend Diva or Holy Orders III from GG2 Overture? The game itself is a bit nothing but they did an awesome job with the character themes.
Pretty much everyone you'd ask would name a different track as Strive's best song, but I felt like this was one of the most common ones for good reason. AISHA kills it here.
One thing I often mull over is why hasn't anyone tried to smash together "Love the Subhuman Self" with Devil May Cry 5's "Subhuman". Or maybe they have tried and it didn't work.
Love the video! I'm the guy screaming and singing in the background vocals. Glad to hear some love!

All I need now is Like a Weed, As a Matter of Course. That one just gets me every time.
"Manslaughter Doktor? I did that shit on PURPOSE!"
my favorite theme
BIG BLAST SONIC
I see you with Makoto's theme at the start.
absolutely one of the top 3 or 2 songs of strive no contest
Awh man Guilty Gear, wasn't that that series of albums that have a game attached each time?
You should definitely check out "Trigger" (Giovanna's Theme) if you want to hear another awesome, but...different-feeling song.
Favorite Strive song by FAR
This, Chip , and Potemkin are my favorite
Very power metal
GG's music slaps so hard
This man needs to hear the glorious Faust theme
you should do Heavy Day or Ride The Fire from Xrd, both are great
Jamison Boaz is the male voice in the song.
Also yes, Millia uses her hair as a weapon lol
Guilty Gear does both, Leitmotiefs AND new themes, as the games Progress, characters change, either physically or in Personality/Find a new Purpose. Millia Rage in the early games is a Former Assasin on the run from her own Organization. In Strive she's in a Completely different situation.
Also if you want a Guilty Gear song that goes hard then may I recommend Diva or Holy Orders III from GG2 Overture? The game itself is a bit nothing but they did an awesome job with the character themes.
This is my theme song
when you listen to Find Your One Way, listen to the AMV that ArcSys released themselves during evo!
This song is the bee's knees
Pretty much everyone you'd ask would name a different track as Strive's best song, but I felt like this was one of the most common ones for good reason. AISHA kills it here.
would love to see your reactions to faust and testament's strive themes
One thing I often mull over is why hasn't anyone tried to smash together "Love the Subhuman Self" with Devil May Cry 5's "Subhuman". Or maybe they have tried and it didn't work.
strive's music is just on another level man...
Aye they released a new MV for sol's theme. Would be a perfect time to try listening to the song :) (Find your own way)
The bee's knees
I wanna see how he'd react to Faust's theme. Hopefully he goes through all the characters lol
