Leonard was just as fast, offensively skilled and powerful as norris, but he was a hell of a lot tougher and had much greater defense. Against prime leonard norris gets cooked in a competitive but decisive fight for leonard.
Master of boxing, Terry Norris
The old guard, cut from a different cloth. Goes to show Leonard's era was truly great and as we know he was special. Even as an old champion he battled the young buck well showing in his prime the outcome could've been different. With that said props to Terry Norris from the 619 ✊🏿
That's what I like better about modem day fighters, they stopped using age as an excuse and just kept kicking butt till near 40.
But Mayweather at 36 slaughtered Canelo at 23 😅😅
@@johnndirangu1053 Different people peak at different times friend. Leonard won a gold in the Olympics and was at it for a long time. When he fought Norris he was far past his peak. Norris would not have beaten him in his prime
@@johnreidy2804 Why fight then if he was past his best, embarrassing 😳
@@johnndirangu1053 Why did Ali, Joe Louis and so many others fight past their peaks?
The age old question my friend.
One more reason to admire Rocky Marciano who quit at his peak undefeated
Leonard was made by Norris a punching bag. Norris is more powerful than Leonard.
it happened when Sugar Ray was getting older.
Awesome performance by Norris against a still great Leanord ! Great credit to both fighters
I couldn't watch this fight here's the time you hate to watch the great ones knowing in his prime he would beat Norris and the commentators viewing this as a equal fight I know that's boxing but like Holmes did to Ali I feast when Tyson broke him down same with all the greats that day will come
Wish Norris and Trinidad would have crossed paths. That would have been fun to watch.
LEONARD YA ESTABA DE SALIDA
Sugar Ray made me proud in this fight
My hero,Leonard was not focused in this fight like he always was in other fights.I still think that Sugar Ray would have beaten him in his prime.
I used to dislike Ray but looking back he was one of the greates if not the greatest
Terry would have beat Lenny in his prime too..
I remember this fight clearly the roles were reversed Terry Norris was so focused you can see him thinking that's the way Ray used to be before this fight I'd never understood what was on Sugar Ray's mind when he fought Terry Norris it made no sense all of the obvious reasons came to light very fast youth was on Terry Norris's side speed was on Terry Norris is side and he had a heck of a knockout punch Ray could have just went on about his business but he took this fight always have been a fan of Sugar Ray I like Terry Norris as well didn't want to see this fight
Some fighters don't know when to leave and Norris 🥊was moving up. Whereas others like Floyd Mayweather just like doing exhibition non-fights. 😂
@@erinmeggik391 Do note that Leonard was just 33 during this fight. Mayweather at 36 schooled Canelo Alvarez.
@@tmac1499 Leonard also did not start 😭😭 like Mayweather did at Olympics 🧐 btw. Tina your thong is bunched up and I was not debating...
@@tmac1499 you must be a casual. Prime has no age, any real knowledgeable boxing fan knows that. A fighter's prime comes and go at different ages. There have been fighters that have been washed by 26/27 years of age.
@@tmac1499 Sugar Ray was 35. He was born in 1956. This was 1991
great Norris/
Leonard is Top 5 of All Time.
That ref got punched and just shook it off 😂😮
this shows how much Ray depended on speed to win. When he was the slower fighter, he was lost. Ray was really good for just a few years, when he came back, he tried to cherry pick his way to more wins vs his biggest rivals when those rivals were leg dead. Ray beat Hearns in the 1st fight when Hearns was ahead on all cards. He lost to Duran and then only wanted to fight Duran when he was out of shape. He waited until Marvin was shot before he would fight him. Then he lost to Hearns when the boxing world had told Ray that Tommy was finished. Ray = over rated .
spot on!

Is this match one that occurred in the late period of Leonard or in his early time?
Late
120-104, 119-103 and 116-110. The fight wasn't as close as the highlights seem. Two judges had Norris up by 16 points in a 12 round fight.
I thought 120-104 and 119-103 were kind of cruel. It was lopsided but not by that much.
Also, there were only 2 knockdowns, so there were quite a few 10-8 rounds by that scoring.
Your point is fair; however, 116-110 is typical pro-Leonard scoring.
@@peytonlucy5947 Oh, I totally agree. 116-110 was too close. I don't think Leonard won even 3 rounds.
Norris and Chamacho were the best guys to face Leonard for the reason they didn't give a damn who he was. They kept on beating his ass the entire match hahaha
Lost a little respect for Terry when he tried to hit Leonard when he was down, no class, but Terry ended up getting his noodles scrambled, Karma is a real thing.
Nah, you don't understand a fighter's instinct. Very hard to hold back in the ring.
That should have been an automatic disqualification
This version of Leonard was basically half blind by this point. His left eye had a detached retina.
Norris was on point.
Ray locked old and slow in this one. Yet still stayed with the younger boxer.
How old was srl in this fight??
That fight showed how much heart an aging Sugar Ray Leonard had . He was outclassed and out boxed by a much younger younger man . but NEVER showed an ounce of quit .
Just like Muhammad Ali, it hurt my heart to see Sugar Ray Leonard lose.
He was a warrior looking for glory, that's way a give my respect for him and Duran and forman they was past their prime and still they was a treat if Norris make a mistake Leonard will ko him as old at he was that time. Barkley fights a old Durán he gave him a space a pow Duran put him down and win that fight same Norris if he give Leonard a space belive me he lose that fight so he hit him hard enough to win same history whit forman and Moorer he give the old man a second air a Pow he lose his championship by ko this leyend they always a treat.
@@ricardocambell4065 I met Michael Moorer at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida about 15 years ago. The first thing I asked him about was Foreman's punch that night. He said he never felt a thing. And the next thing he knew, he woke up, and Teddy Atlas told him he lost the fight. He said. He couldn't believe it! He said he never felt the punch. That tells you how hard Forman hit...
SRL was 34 Yrs. Not very old at all. But completely outboxed by Norris. This is not the same case as being KOed by Camacho at the age of 40.
Maby 🍺
Chavez le tuvo pavor a norris
After Terry handled Mugabi, I thought that.........
"TERRY IS THE MIRROR IMAGE OF RAY!!!!"
NOW LOOK AT THE OPPOSITE CONDITIONS OF THEIR PRESENT HEALTH!!!.😞😞
Ray lost just a touch of his reflexes but still a gifted boxer. Terry showing great patience and heart as well. Tough fight for both men.Leonard still thinking he had the goods to regain a title. Ray went on to get worked hard by the Macho Man before hanging it up.
Ray tried but Terry is just on onother level on this fight, Ray was in his prime but could not trouble Norris. His boxing style is just more effective than Ray's.
