The difference between immoral and amoral: Bruno points out the irony of being in the wrong for most of his life. He regrets who he has become, and feels opposed to that person, both inside and out. Impossible to reconcile
James Gray is a master of film. The emotion of the dialogue he writes is something that will stand the test of time. "If you could lick my heart you'd taste nothing but poison." Also, the dialogue from The Lost City of Z: "So much of life is a mystery, my boy. We know so little of this world. But you and I have made a journey that other men cannot even imagine, and this has given understanding to our hearts."
Damn. I just saw this movie for the first time today, and this whole scene (especially Bruno's heartrending burst of remorse and bitter self-reflection) had tears streaming down my face. Can't believe I waited so long to watch this beautiful work of art.
Good Lord, unnecessary?? lol this whole scene is one of the most sublime parts of the film. You’re thinking too mechanically and formulaically (imo). Relax out of that for a second and see how painfully beautiful and perfect an ending this is! Or don’t, not tryna tell you what to do lol but just a suggestion. I love this scene so much. Made me cry.
@coreyhoward4397 I think the reason he's explicitly recounting all of the bad shit he did is to express how sincere he is in his remorse. He showing that he doesn't want to cut himself any slack. He's laying it all out because he's sick of himself, sick of how he has lived his life up to this point, and wants to fully and seriously own up to his faults without making any excuses for himself. He's showing that he has no flattering illusions or self-delusions about all of the wrong he has done to Ewa, and is in pain because of it.
@@tuanjim799 Definitely appreciate that perspective; essentially him finally laying plain the truth, especially considering his manipulation throughout the film and the nature of his profession, so thank you for that.
"You are not nothing."
THAT is the reason why this was one of my favorite movies of 2014.
Plz can u share the link

Brilliant. Underrated. Nuff said
Magnificent. James Gray❤️
Y'know, I thought Bruno would be some scary tyrant, kinda like Commodus. I didn't expect to feel sympathy for him. JP rules!
James Gray is a genius. at the level of paul thomas anderson. And I've never seen a movie that ends with this beautiful shot. 😭
It’s unbelievable to me that Her and this movie came in the same year, a decade ago. Joaquin looks so different in them 😮
d-does joaquin phoenix ever play in a happy film
Brando's heir 👏👏👏
Wash you mouth... Coment not sensless

que grandes son Joaquin Phoenix y Marion Cotillard.
We all know why Talia betrayed Batman
Talia was in love with Joker
This scene bruno accepting... He will cheat her
I honestly feel like this scene is all just unnecessary exposition, but his performance, damn.
The performance is everything

@@tuanjim799 I love the scene, don't get me wrong, but if you really listen, he's literally only recapping what happened the entire movie.

(but there isnt)
Did Bruno go to jail in the end?
Yes. He willingly confessed the murder of his cousin to the police to atone for his sins. I hope this clarifies the ending for you.
