I miss reading books, I used to read a lot of books, most of them several times, then the internet came along which provided so many other sources of entertainment and information and it seems like I never have time to read anymore. I even have a Kindle with a lot of books on it as I converted my paper books to electronic and I rarely use that. Maybe one day I’ll start reading again but I fear that will never happen. I feel like book reading is a lost craft just like reading the newspaper or magazines is. It’s sad that most young people today will never experience the enjoyment of reading a good book.
I had the same problem, then I bought a Kindle paperwhite, which allows me to read in bed with its very low, dim light that does not disturb my partner. I don’t allow myself to use my phone after I go to bed, and the Kindle is very slow in Internet capabilities, so it focuses me on reading and helps me go to sleep. It’s compatible with the Libby (library) app, so I can often borrow books on it.
My son-in-law had recommended Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell years ago, and I finally read it a couple of years ago. I very much enjoyed it and went on to read Piranesi which I also really enjoyed despite being extremely strange!
Dear Alicia...you know how i adore your Book Recommendations! It was such a pleasure to watch your new Video...and now my Wishlist is full :) Thanks for your inspiring Reads! Andrea
Oooh, I always enjoy your book reviews! Babel sounds intriguing, I feel like I should know (of) it, but I don't think I do... (It's going on my list!) I often don't finish books, or tv series. Sometimes it just feels too final. And when I don't finish them there are still many possibilities, not a definite ending 🤷♀️
I really liked "A Road to Roswell" I don't think I have read this author before but it kept my interest enough to finish the book (which is rare to be honest.)
I'm really curious: Where do you get your book suggestions, or go about finding out about these books enough to go read them? I tend to read sci-fi and fantasy, fiction works (I gotta escape this world we live in haha 🤣 I sometimes check out some youtubers that do such book reviews, sometimes Good Reads. Curious as you do go a bit all over the spectrum it seems. Good for you!! 😃
Alicia you have the most wonderful hair! Would you mind sharing what hair cutting tutorial you follow or even share how you do it? Signed, frustrated wavy/curly girl here 😅
I loved Babel. Well I like Dark Academia and R F. Kuang. The Poppy War is an excellent read, as is Yellowface. I read The Poppy War; after reading Fourth Wing; and I do think that Rebecca Yarros must have been influenced or inspired by The Poppy War. My take on Babel is that it's about a group of young students that become disillusioned with the system and contrive to bring it down, and they succeed. But their personal conflict comes from the fact that they themselves are extremely fortunate to be a part of that system. So there's the idea that destroying Babel was a reactionary and extreme reaction. Sometimes, destruction of the existing system; without having a plan in place; is not the best idea. I'd like to know what happened to their world; after.
How long did Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell take you? I checked it out from my library.... kept exceeding the hold period without finishing it... bought it used so I didn't have a time limit... and yet it sits unread lol.
Please try the book Piranesi, which is by Susanna Clarke (author of Jonathan Strange) - Piranesi is EXCELLENT.
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig was wonderful
Thanks for the suggestion!
Yay Johnathan Strange & Mr. Norrell! I love this book!
😍
9:59 The Westing Game is one of my favorite books from 5th grade. I reread it as an adult. It was still as good as I remembered.

Babel and Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell are a great pairing! And I second the other recommendations for Piranesi. What a fantastic book that was.
Oooh, I always enjoy your book reviews!

your beauty is something serious. oh my god.
A couple of your recommendations reminded me of The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. which I'd recommend.

I have not been able to get through Jonathan Strange! I would like to read Babel though.

Gosh, maybe 2-3 months? I moved pretty slowly through it.
Have you read Cloud Atlas yet?
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke will blow your mind.
The Princess and the Goblin, by George MacDonald 🙂
Thanks for the recommendation!
Love anything by George MacDonald! I agree, Alicia! These are special fairy tales for sure
Babel is speculative fiction; it is not historical fiction.
