      Almost received a shotgun blast to the face with those....some tumbler have a top part filled with small round piece of metal (i guess for self-balancing). They are contained in a ring that have 2 plastics button. We were hearing strange hissing noise for a while(the humidity was going up) then "kablam" it's exploded like a shotgun, no kidding i lost a shoe while jumping back!!! So make sure to empty those, but for the rest, my familly has used them for fire pit since the 80's and they last for 7 years easily. My dad welded a cover to put on top, still using those!

    replacing the rear felt seal is worth it. There are only a few different drum sizes in the Whirlpool category. If the dryer comes back for a bad timer, keep the drum and you'll be able to reuse it soon enough.

    I have rebuilt two direct drive washers. Kenmore and a whirlpool. They are exactly the same (LOL) Can you transport these lying down, or should they always be upright. The only thing that I see to be a problem is protecting the inlets (block of wood) and perhaps the fill part (break vacuum??) What say you.

    • @WasherDryerMoney
      @WasherDryerMoney  2 года назад

      One thing that can happen from laying them down is the part that allows the tub to slide will get turned sideways when you lift it back up. It’s easy to tell when it happened because when it happens you’ll lift the lid and see the whole drum is sitting cockeyed and does not want to straighten out. The bigger problem with this besides how hard it is to get it back on track is accidentally cracking the bottom of the outer liner drum. There’s a plastic ear that the slider track can get stuck on and when you set it up if the plastic is brittle it will just break the drum on the bottom. I’ve seen this numerous times on direct drive washer‘s.
      If you have to transport them laying down you can just be extremely careful and double check the track before you stand them up.

    So you dont work on washers with bad bearings? Im asking because I have a kenmore elite right now with bad bearing and wondering if its worth the trouble to try and fix or just pull parts from

    • @WasherDryerMoney
      @WasherDryerMoney  2 года назад +1

      I personally do not. But it depends on if you have a lot of machines to go through. I had tons of machines when I was running full-time and would rather fix Machines that do not take up four times the amount of time as an easy fix machine. I would usually put them in a pile and lie to myself that I will get to them as soon as I get caught up but that would never happen. Towards the end I would just part them out and use the parts to fix the easier machines.
      But having that said it depends on if you have a abundance of machines. If you only have A few machines in plenty of time it might be worth it to you. Be sure to join the Facebook group Appliance Flippers united.

    How mechanically inclined to you need to be to start repairing washers and dryers?

    • @WasherDryerMoney
      @WasherDryerMoney  4 года назад +3

      washers and dryers have about five common problems that happen all the time. Occasionally you'll run into some type of very rare problem but most of the time it's the same five things you're fixing over and over and over and over again. I really think that most people that are able to change their spark plugs can definitely repair washer dryer. Just got through some RUclips University and you'll get the idea pretty quickly. Now there are the newer fancy stuff that have a lot more complicated problems but I just avoid those machines.

    • @bensappliancesandjunk
      @bensappliancesandjunk 4 года назад +4

      The secret is buying junk ones, not fixing other people's. If you fail, you lose $20 or whatever the junk one cost to buy. That way there's no real cost of failure. Dryers are stupidly easy to fix. You need a screwdriver (i love my 9 in 1), a putty knife,, and a multimeter. Those three tools will disassemble like, 90% of appliances and allow you to repair them.

  • @bensappliancesandjunk
    @bensappliancesandjunk 4 года назад +2

    What's the most obscure/oddball washer and dryer have you gotten / parted out? I think the strangest thing I've seen is a Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer w/ a digital pushbutton top (not a Calypso!) and a 3-way recirculation drain pump valve. I mean, I've gotten the Frankenstein monster known as the Calypso too, but that one threw me off.
    I do all the appliances, and the one that's big money that I've sold more of than you'd think are French-Door.... Doors and Glass Tops to Stoves. No one really wants to ship 'em, and you can use the same type box for either. Those have been good hustles, but they have to be immaculate, and you have to hunt down the Part #'s for them to match them up.

      I actually have a dryer right now that I’m going to make a video on soon that is one of the weirdest ones I’ve seen. It’s a 1968 lady Kenmore. It’s nearly built exactly like a regular filter out the top dryer. They have been making them for that long.
      It has a multi stage heating element.
      The weirdest thing about it is, it has a spot for a fragrance bottle next to the lint filter. It has a tube that attaches to the fragrance bottle and runs down next to the light.
      I got the dryer working. There actually wasn’t that much wrong with it. It came with one of the fragrance bottles in the little compartment.

      @@WasherDryerMoney ive had a few Lady Kenmores. Does it have the cartridge style element or the even older one? The lint-top dryer is way older than you think... I had one i thought was an 88 but was a 78. It uses the older style element that looks like a bedframe. Changing them is a PITA compared to the newer style, but the rest is the same. Its great.

      It's so crazy how long lasting they used to make appliances. I can guarantee you the regular pause/play washer and dryers will not be working In 50 years. We are definitely in the age of disposable appliances compared to what they used to be.

      @@WasherDryerMoney I really want to get and tear down the Maytag 5-year warrantied "Commercial-grade" unit. I've looked the part#'s up, and they're wildly different than a standard VMW. Maybe one day they'd start putting those parts in the regular ones - the actual wholesale cost on the upgraded/longer lasting parts... isn't actually more expensive for some reason, despite all the major fail points being re-enforced.

    • @WasherDryerMoney
      @WasherDryerMoney  4 года назад +1

      Yeah I looked really close at a set in Lowes. One of these employees asked if I was interested in buying it. LOL
      I've only gotten a couple Speed Queen Dryer's over the years and still haven't gotten a washer. I tore down the Speed Queen and was very impressed with how well it was made in the gauge of metal they used. It was a much older model so I'm not sure if it is exactly the same as what they are making now. I know Speed Queen started making that updated versions but no one seems to like but I don't think they've updated the dryer has far as I know.
      anytime someone ask me what I would recommend if they bought new I always suggest Speed Queen just because the Scrappers never bring me one so that's got to be a good sign.
