Through the ensuing years following his untimely death in 1968 I feel Katchen has been somewhat overlooked. He was of course one of the most distinguished pianists of his day who thankfully left a substantial recorded legacy. This included his much respected Brahms cycle not to mention some fine chamber music collaborations with Joseph Suk.
By the way, why is Julius Katchen almost forgotten? He is playing like if he was a combination of Dinu Lipatti, Bill Evans and Annie Fischer. Thank you once again.
Couldn't agree any more! Julius Katchen was a truly great pianist and musician. He'd certainly deserve much better than being half forgotten!!
Wonderful rendition..Very vlear, transparent voice. Classical in all senses.

la densité du jeu de Katchen...! magnifique dans cette pièce si "brahmsienne" !

Big fan of old recordings. Not sure why. There’s something about the tone. More “song” like…
