I remember the season before.. I thought we were so bad that i'd never see the C's raise a banner in my lifetime. KG came and changed the franchise within a season. 2008 was unreal and as a Celtics fanatic, I can't even express what KG has meant for the franchise. I wasn't able to see Bill Russel or Larry Bird. But I saw Kevin Garnett...

I saw Larry Bird play his whole career here in Boston; he taught me what the Celtics were all about, and gave me an appreciation for what guys like Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Bill Cowens, and the rest that preceded him had done to make a Celtics jersey mean something. Something about dedication to greatness, teamwork, hard work, and collectively outsmarting other teams. Kevin Garnett could have played on any of those teams, and fit right in. To think of him stepping out on the court to challenge any team in history with great individual and team defenders Russell, Havlicek, DJ, and Cousy is something to dream about. No one would score on that group. We Celtics fans have been greatly blessed for 70 years.
KG was simply unreal. I was in Middleschool in 8th grade when he decide to come to the Celti s and I was so glad I was a Celtics fan. His level of play, passion, relentless attitude and the way we smashed the Lakers by 40 points in an NBA finals game with Kobe Bryant as the opponent was the icing on the cake. There has never been another like KG, and those powerful, long tears of his while raising the rafters was just......wow. The man loves with his whole heart, his whole entire being and you can just feel it. You deserve KG, you are the personification of what it means to be a Boston Celtic.
I'm from Medford Massachusetts and am old enough where I saw Bird play live. KG is one of the only players that gave it everything like Larry did. We are forever grateful, KG,
So emotional...it was my college days, my days were green all the way...Even though I'm thousand miles away in Taiwan but I can feel Kevin's heart, that year will never be forgotten. Love KG.
KG One of my favorite players and He is in my Top5 of center players. Straight outta highschool, and one of the most electrifying players in sports! Congratulations KG#5🍾🎊🎉🎈
My all time hero KG. He was the michael jordan to me growing up. Always loved him and always will. What a dominating force he was when he was in the league. The intensity every game. And not to mention the fun of using him on the NBA live games. Congrats KG
one of the best powerforwards to ever live. Dude is a bucket on midrange J's an athletic defensive minded and giving all of his heart on the court. 2000's Duncan vs. KG
This ceremony was AWESOME. Great to see the love & support from fans, teammates and management/ownership. KG is too cool. Wish he could have played for the Bulls...but oh well. Congrats KG!!!
I love this!!!!🔥🔥CELTICS!!!! One thing I never understood though, is the fact that people still have the nerve to "Boo" at events/ceremonies like these. Like damn bro, if you don't agree or don't like the occasion, be quiet! Don't ruin a great moment like this. Maybe it's just me. I don't know. No matter how great you are, you really can't please everyone. Shout out to KG, The Big Ticket!👏🏿👏🏿💯
There are 2 different kinds of Boo. There is a negative boo that calls somebody out...normal boo. Then there is the Bad Boy boo. It means something like MAMA THERE GOES THAT MAN...it's reserved for the fan favorites. It's a good boo, so to speak.
Damn 🥺🥺🥲🥲 I never liked the Celtics but DAMN this was Real. KG is one of the realest that EVER stepped on the court. Gave NO FUCKS about the opponent. All Heart. He gave his everything. And to see them give it back to him and squashing the beef with Ray…….. When I see another black man get honored like this , it’s beautiful to see. KG a legend forever.
Being from Minnesota and watching the Wolves played since the Pooh Richardson era...its an absolute embarrassment that KG had his first jersey retirement ceremony...and its as a Celtics. Mad props to the Celtics organization and its fan base!
Wow!!!! There will never be any other numbers left for these players to play the way Celtic Pride is. Goes to show you the mysticism that Boston fans are that shows pride to their team. Congrats to Kevin Garnett for his jersey retired. I remember watching him when he was in Chicago playing In high school from Farragut along with his high school teammate Ronnie Fields which I would love to see him be selected to have his dreams in the NBA but things didn't work out for him at the time. However as for Kevin look what he done to the NBA from high school player struggling to get into the big league from where he's now, Being an NBA champion, Minnesota, Boston and Brooklyn. Great good teams he played, but he put a stamp of appeal in Minnesota as the worst to dynamic team thx to the late great Flip Saunders. I'm sure he's watching in heaven as well as Kobe Bryant giving thx up above as partying thx too. Way to go, Well deserved.
Making it out at a young age is quite difficult. I started a side hustle at 17, saved up and made some good investments. l'm 28,live on my own and having a good life for myself. Big ups to you and everyone out there trying
@Muyiwa MG Yes it sure is. I put in money in investments and get profits. That 's how I make more money without working. This does not sound new to you right ?
That was a great moment in sports. To get over the pseudo betrayal and squash it on a beautiful night. Way the fuck to go KG! ray always classy showing up and putting respect in KGs name on his night.
It was all about the competitive passion for the game, where KG is set apart. He was unforgiving of what ray allen did then and for a while, he wasn't budging, but oh man, when it comes full circle and you're truly ready to forgive. This hanging of KG's jersey wouldn't have been in full completion without Ray in it. Them three embracing did it for me, and I'm not a celtic fan. Kudos
Am really glad he patched things up with Ray Allen 😎👍🏾 now they can enjoy their retirement in peace #CELTICS# 123 UMBUTU 🏀🏀🏀 anyone who follows the 2007 / 08 season will know what UMBUTU means 😎👍🏾
I like kg more in Minnesota than Boston. Find it weird Celtics retired his #. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t kg play 6 season only and 1 championship for them. Kg should’ve retired as a Timberwolves.
Too bad Tatum couldn’t get this man a win today… rather ominous that this current group couldn’t close it out at home against a playoff caliber team with the OG big 3 in the house. Celtics almost had me fooled. But they’ll crumble in clutch time like always…
Trash franchise ,,,, nobody cares what they do. Stop being so over reaching with things that don’t matter,,, your personal life needs that “hope” & “wish” more than his Jersey needing retirement. Geez
Paul pierce does not look well. He needs to slow down his retirement lifestyle man, dude looks like he just smokes blunts and drinks too much. Nothing wrong with a bit of all that but it seems like he been doing a LOT of all that.

Watching KG fight back the tears as he was raising up the banner was powerful to watch.
That gesture and hug with Ray and Paul had me tear up. So good to see!!

KG’s passion for basketball is undeniable, I wish I can see more players like him in the league 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

There will never be a more passionate player.
Immortalized and still humble. GREATNESS 👏
I’m glad KG got his number retired in Boston. Maybe one day us fans in Minnesota will get to see his banner in the target center too.
💚🍀 5 FOREVER!!
Lots of love and respect for Kevin Garnett! ☘️
Man he’s a beast, underrated legend that backed it up on the court, they don’t make ‘em like these legends no more

Thanks KG.
What a great ceremony to honor one of the best Celtics ever!

KG hasn’t aged a day
Congrats to kg
What they accomplished together was too great to let it be overshadowed by BS. Glad to see them in the same space.
Definitely did not wake up thinking I'd see Kevin Garnett cry today... or ever 11:56 wow
He cried when they won the chip in 08
I must have been the only one or did anyone else think he was going to end it with screaming "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!"
That was a great moment in sports. To get over the pseudo betrayal and squash it on a beautiful night. Way the fuck to go KG! ray always classy showing up and putting respect in KGs name on his night.
KG: ray?
Ray: KG…
KG: oh it’s good to see you big dog.
Ray: it’s good to see you.
KG: how are you?
Ray: trying to do better.
In the middle of watching this and Brady announces he’s un-retiring. Oh boy…

Thanks Kevin Garnett, and of course Kevin McHale, Paul & Ray.... if they keep retiring numbers, the players will have to wear letters.... lol
Tommy is smiling down on KG
I wish the Celtics would put player names next to the number associated with them
Greenville South Carolina Kevin Garnett
the celtics are gonna use 3 digit numbers soon 😭
Hugging it out. It's good to see black men doing that.
No offense y'all but i was shock that kg didn't retire at minnesota

Laugh my ass of if he goes in hall of fame as timber wolf
KG have small Ukraine flag ❤️❤️😍😍
I like kg more in Minnesota than Boston. Find it weird Celtics retired his #. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t kg play 6 season only and 1 championship for them. Kg should’ve retired as a Timberwolves.
We’re retiring his number as a tribute for his time in Boston
The Timberwolves will do the same
Too bad Tatum couldn’t get this man a win today… rather ominous that this current group couldn’t close it out at home against a playoff caliber team with the OG big 3 in the house. Celtics almost had me fooled. But they’ll crumble in clutch time like always…
Bro the Celtics bout to lose jersey numbers
Do the Celtics have any numbers left? I think they’ll have to move to 3 digit numbers😀😀😀!
When a team wins 17 championships they have legends the Celtics have plenty of legends in the rafters
Where's their point guard Chris Paul???
Minnesota should retire his jersey too
No wife present? Yipes, she was a true beauty too.
Ray is the next
Naaaaaah,,, we good
Why won't they raise a real jersey with big number at the back with names at least spectators know who owns that number.
If you know you know!
Why not just raise his number only? That was weird
I have no respect for an NBA player to make fun of someone who have cancer
I hope the Timberwolves will retire his no. 21 next
Trash franchise ,,,, nobody cares what they do. Stop being so over reaching with things that don’t matter,,, your personal life needs that “hope” & “wish” more than his Jersey needing retirement. Geez

His jersey retirement is such a disrespect to all the real Celtics legends. He is now up there with Bird, Russell, Cousy, Havlicek.. WHAT A JOKE!!
How? Kg turned a franchise around not only him the big 3 Allen KG and pierce all Celtics legends and they will be in the rafters together one day
booo@you
he does not deserve, i think Timberwolves should retire his jersey. The guy won just one championship. he did not do that much...
Paul pierce does not look well. He needs to slow down his retirement lifestyle man, dude looks like he just smokes blunts and drinks too much. Nothing wrong with a bit of all that but it seems like he been doing a LOT of all that.
