Barney and Klink! Seriously, he was a true professional. No politics, just grateful and acknowledging his costars. Just an incredible actor. RIP Werner Klemperer... you were one of the greats...
According to the Wikipedia bio, Werner Klemperer was also a very accomplished musician -- violinist, concert pianist and operatic baritone. He came from a musical family. His mother was an operatic soprano and of course his father was the famous conductor Otto Klemperer. I guess he (Werner) most enjoyed acting.
I agree with all but the operatic baritone. He did work in opera but they tended to be non-singing parts. I actually did a production with him in Seattle in the early 80s of Die Fledermaus and he performed his role (Count Orlovsky) has Rex Harrison did his in My Fair Lady. Needless to say it was a wild production and included Buddy Hackett and Paul Sorvino (about 8 years before Good Fellas).
A very humble and charitable man, who makes most of today's actors" seem rather pathetic. I agree, he was the star of the show; he had most of the dialog or at least as much as Bob Crane. It seems to me that folks back then were very much into the craft of being a performer and not necessarily so much into being famous. Thanks much for the upload.
I just love this guy. He was so elegant and un-2020-like. His demeanor and speech will tell you all you need to know. And for a guy who was never a comedic actor, he was funny as hell as Colonel Klink. Never watched this show till a couple months ago, and now I can't get enough of it!
Morris, Nimoy, and Klemperer--all three truly deserved the award, but unfortunately only one could be the winner. No regrets at all that Werner won. Wonderful people, all of them! Mission Impossible, Star Trek, and Hogan's Heroes were such awesome shows!
The one underlying thing about this man and all the interviews he did over the years was his humbleness. It was so sad to hear that someone stole that monocle he kept from the TV series...I hope whoever took it rots in hell.
He died before I was born but still had a great impact in my life. 'Wilhelm Klink' was one of my first role models.. Loving, kind, respectful... I'll never forget that/him He was the best actor I've ever seen
Dissssssmmmmisssssssed, These are the fellas from funniest to funny imho.Klink, Schultz, Carter, LeBeau, Newkirk, Hogan, Kinch. I'm loving the fact that i get to watch two episodes a night five nights a week on MeTV #HogansHeroes #MeTV
I think that He accepted the applause for himself and gave the award away with his speech to Bob and Company. Either way, a very good acceptance speech. I really loved the show, I was to busy for television when it first ran, but thanks to Nick a t Night and now RUclips I can make-up for lost time. Shalom.
So damn great watching them accept awards back then w/o given a stupid speech about political agendas and demanding we, the pubic, think like them. What a generation.
YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN AND FOR NOT BEING POLITICALLY CORRECT. WE ALL THOUGHT THOSE WERE BAD TIMES HERE THET WERE THE BEST TIME. OUR PARENTS AND GRAND PARENTS WERE ALL.STILL ALIVE AND CHRISTMAS WAS SO SPECIAL NOW EVERYONE IS GONE. WELL.THANKS YOUR MAKING ME CRY NOW.
Ivan actually left the show in 1970 after the 5th season because at that time he felt there was nowhere else for Kinch to go. HH was supposed to have gone on until at least 1972 but the 1-2 punch known as the rural purge and the Primetime Access Rule put paid to plans for a 7th season.
I thought it was very classy of him to mention all the other co stars in the way he did. And although he was deserving of the award, it's hard to imagine John Banner not winning the same award because anyone who has seen Hogan's Heroes would probably agree that Sgt. Schultz was easily as important and good a character as Klink was.
He was great in a Twilight Zone as an escaping Nazi on a submarine that hears a knocking noise. Eventually, he goes mad! When they captured and dismantled the sub they found a skeleton in between the inner outer hull. Theory was a Jewish man got sealed in their holding... you guessed it. A metal wrench
So well deserved and the right choice, but how in the heck did Greg Morris get nominated??? Werner and Don Knotts were two of the best television character actors ever.
I noticed that, too. And he was reading something, so it wasn't like he absent-mindedly forgot him. Bummer. Dixon won an Emmy for a different category in 1967 (not for Hogan's Heroes).
+Bender IsGreat I thought of that but am not sure - it's right on the edge. Dixon only missed season 6 which was 1971 but it may have started in 1970, and this award series was in 1969. Either way, probably not significant, just something I noticed.
Ivan Dixon left the show at the end of season five (March 27, 1970). The 1969 Awards ceremony was telecast on June 8, 1969. Thus, Dixon was part of the cast at the time of this video.
I believe Dixon had left the show by '69. He was replaced by Kenneth Washington. It was a tumultuous time and EVERYTHING seemed to have a political undercurrent to it. Dixon later regretted leaving the show. Kinch was a very positive black character who was an ammunition and espionage master, when their weren't too many blacks on TV AT ALL. Thanks for Ivan Dixon heads up.
He didn't. Hogans Heroes ran for 6 years. Ivan Dixon was in every season except the last which I believe was 1971 so nah whoever trying to make excuses for WK should probably try a different argument then Ivan Dixon might have already left the show. Look i grew up during the 60s + 70's + the racial animus towards black people was still in a fever pitch. So maybe WK just a product of the times even after what he witnessed in Nazi Germany against himself + his people. But hell you had slave owners who couldn't stand black people but were raping black women every chance they got. Not gonna lie it was a little disappointing to hear him leave out the 1 black guy but named every other character, even the secretary
Terrible to overlook Dixon. At least Dixon won his own Emmy for something outside of Hogan's Heroes. Such a great talent, including directing and singing.
+Chief Kurtz Ivan Dixon was written out of the show, when his character was accidentally shot by the prison guards when Hogan were setting up another Nazi who knew of his war operations at Stalag 13 to be killed. Sergeant Kinchloe ended up dying in Col. Hogan's arms. Kenneth Washington was a new arrival at Stalag 13 in that episode, and took over Dixon's spot in the cast of the series.
He deserved that award. He's a great actor. RIP Col Klink
From a kid born in Germany. Then he walked off stage the wrong way. Mr. Hollywood.
Barney and Klink! Seriously, he was a true professional. No politics, just grateful and acknowledging his costars. Just an incredible actor. RIP Werner Klemperer... you were one of the greats...
If I could give this two thumbs up I would. What great, genuine humility.

Needless to say it was a wild production and included Buddy Hackett and Paul Sorvino (about 8 years before Good Fellas).
This is awesome! Spock, Barney and Col. Klink in the same room!
David Lape #@ amen to that.
Proof positive that they really were three separate men!!! ; )
Don't forget Barney Collier! :)
It looks like the three stooges are together again lol
A very humble and charitable man, who makes most of today's actors" seem rather pathetic. I agree, he was the star of the show; he had most of the dialog or at least as much as Bob Crane. It seems to me that folks back then were very much into the craft of being a performer and not necessarily so much into being famous. Thanks much for the upload.
Agreed but the actor who stole the show was John Banner as Sgt. Schultz.
+John Boutet i know nothing nothing
he never mentioned ivan dixon
your full of shit dixion left the show in 1971
How humble, that was my first thought also. Nothing like the character of Colonel Klink. R.I.P.
I just love this guy. He was so elegant and un-2020-like. His demeanor and speech will tell you all you need to know. And for a guy who was never a comedic actor, he was funny as hell as Colonel Klink. Never watched this show till a couple months ago, and now I can't get enough of it!
He accepted it as an honorary degree for his colleges. Well put.
Hogans Heroes was one of the great comedie shows. Well done Colonel Werner Klemperer you were very entertaining.
WHAT a GRACIOUS MAN! ♥
I think he also thought of his classical music background. Fellow musicians(actors) at his side.
Morris, Nimoy, and Klemperer--all three truly deserved the award, but unfortunately only one could be the winner. No regrets at all that Werner won. Wonderful people, all of them! Mission Impossible, Star Trek, and Hogan's Heroes were such awesome shows!
Expected him to say "I am reminded of a story of a little boy..."
Damn he got up to the stage fast. Maybe today’s Oscar winners could take a cue
thanks for posting if anything is great piece of TV history. And if they would make shows like Hogan's Hero or even Get Smart.
The one underlying thing about this man and all the interviews he did over the years was his humbleness. It was so sad to hear that someone stole that monocle he kept from the TV series...I hope whoever took it rots in hell.
Endlich hat der Oberst seinen Ordnen erhalten! Noch nie ist einer aus seinem Lager geflitzt, nicha?
His second consecutive win of six nominations. He was the 'star' of the show IMO.
+Johnny synth ♣ DITTO! ☺
In reruns, Klink over took Hogan as favorite. Howard Caine as Major Hochsteder is running 3rd. Bob Crane holding strong at 2nd.
Leon Askin (General Burkhalter) and Colonel Klink (Klemperer) were always the best when they were sharing a scene.
Thank you very much. Dismissed!
Nice he mentioned all his cast mates
He died before I was born but still had a great impact in my life.
'Wilhelm Klink' was one of my first role models.. Loving, kind, respectful... I'll never forget that/him
He was the best actor I've ever seen
What a wonderful humble man short and sweet thank you's. He was also awesome on an episode of Lost In Space too. RIP WK.
Amazing competition! Greg Morris and Leonard Nimoy? Werner certainly was in great company and deserved every win he got for Klink.
An amazing man-what talent-bravo!
Werner Klemperer at the 1969 Emmy Awards. Werner Klemperer was best known for playing Colonel Wilhelm Klink in the Hit CBS Sitcom "Hogan's Heroes".
Good on ya Werner.............. RIP buddy.
A wonderful speach!!!!!
He shoulda said "silence!!" when they kept on clapping, lol Love Hogans heroes!!!
I think that He accepted the applause for himself and gave the award away with his speech to Bob and Company. Either way, a very good acceptance speech. I really loved the show, I was to busy for television when it first ran, but thanks to Nick a t Night and now RUclips I can make-up for lost time. Shalom.
"Dismissed....!"
So damn great watching them accept awards back then w/o given a stupid speech about political agendas and demanding we, the pubic, think like them. What a generation.
This comment becomes more relevant every year.
Klink is the man.
Hooooogannnnnnn! RIP Herr Klemperer.
Yes 👋👋👋👍❤️ and my best greetings from Sachsen 👍❤️🌄🍀
I thought it was very classy of him to mention all the other co stars in the way he did. And although he was deserving of the award, it's hard to imagine John Banner not winning the same award because anyone who has seen Hogan's Heroes would probably agree that Sgt. Schultz was easily as important and good a character as Klink was.
Pity he missed Ivan Dixon though
One of the most well known quips in TV: "Hogaaan....!"
Greg Morris was amazing. His quest shot on the DVD show is truly awesome.
WERNER KLEMPERER RIP
He could closed his speech with ‘Dissssmissed!’
A little celebratory cognac could also fit the role.
I'm sure Mr Spock would say ' Quite a logical choice '
Hoooogan! I LOVE watching Hogan Heros on You Tube.
What would have been great is if in the following season the award was sitting on Klinks desk......
Always pure class
Werner was a great actor. In fact the producers thought he couldn't play Klink because he had played so many villain roles. He showed them!!
Love his acting
I know it's a character, but it was unusual not to see Werner without his iconic monocle.
So humble🥰
A gentleman in the true sense.
Nothing but class.
A well earned award! He picked up another later.
Hes a great actor was awesome as col klink
He won more than once. Notice comedy and drama were not separate yet.
A long way from his service in the Army. He had a talent for comedic acting.
He gave a quick peck on the cheek to his then wife Louise Troy, who appeared in three episodes of Hogan's Heroes.
Awesome.
he always played the part of a bald guy
RIP Col Klink Not only a great actor but funny too!
Very gracious
It would have been perfect if Leon Askin (General Burkhalter) could have handed him the award. But Goldie wasn't getting any complaints I'm sure.
Goldie Hawn is adorable.
So well deserved and the right choice, but how in the heck did Greg Morris get nominated??? Werner and Don Knotts were two of the best television character actors ever.
"Klink you idiot!" And luckily he never married Frau Linkmayer.
Hey all hollwood actors today....take a lesson on class and humility.
All Ivan Dixon fans should see "Nothing But a Man" (1964).
The "Gonkulator" episode
That's the one that aired on MeTV tonite...!
WOW!!!! NoBODY Knows THIS Anymore!!! Given out by Goldy & DoNny!!! WOW!!!!!
Leonard Nimoy with the Beatles hair! I almost didn't recognize hiim!
That's funny.. he said he'd take the Emmy back to CA for all his co-stars and never mentioned Ivan Dixon
Susquehanna80 I noticed that also
I noticed that, too. And he was reading something, so it wasn't like he absent-mindedly forgot him. Bummer. Dixon won an Emmy for a different category in 1967 (not for Hogan's Heroes).
Schultzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Fruth37 i saw nothing!!!
Joa, was is denn, Herr Kommandant?
I' seh nix, I' hör nix, gar nix!
He mentioned everyone except Ivan Dixon.
Ivan Dixon may have left the cast by the time of the Emmy Awards.
+Andrew Fabbro I think Ivan was leaving the series at this point.
+Bender IsGreat I thought of that but am not sure - it's right on the edge. Dixon only missed season 6 which was 1971 but it may have started in 1970, and this award series was in 1969. Either way, probably not significant, just something I noticed.
True, but this episodes were filmed the previous year. When production for season six began, it was 1969.
Ivan Dixon left the show at the end of season five (March 27, 1970). The 1969 Awards ceremony was telecast on June 8, 1969. Thus, Dixon was part of the cast at the time of this video.
Anyone else is watching him always with the monocle (Monokel-i don't know how it's called)
Goldie.....
goofy goldy hawn and barney fife together who would of thunk it!!
I always think of him as being Mr. Chicken
Werner Klemperer was an underrated actor in an iconic role but Nimoy should have won.
He forgot Ivan Dixon...
The one where Hogan's gang blows up the ball bearing factory in Zuglitz
Fred Sanford that was my Fav one. I laughed for three days after that episode
"Hogan.......!"
Hard to recognize him out of his Nazti uniform!
BTW, why not add Don Knotts and Goldie Hawn to the description?
Me and this video are the exact same age. I bet Leonard Nimoy didn't take that too well.
Why accuse Nimoy of jealousy when he did not display it?
Everybody knows Leonard Nimoy can't feel jealousy. Or any other emotion.
To think he was a master violinist......must have been hard to play somebody who was so stupid lol. Thanks for all the laughs.....
The weird thing is that in all the violin scenes Klemperer never plays the sounds that we hear. Probably a bad choice of the producers of the show.
lost ARCHIVES!!!!!!
....I'd like to thank WWII, for being such a funny war....
tsopmocful you know it was because The Great Escape Movie was so popular that this series went on
no mention of ivan dixion.........thigs that make you go hmmmmmmmmm
Terrible to overlook Dixon. At least Dixon won his own Emmy for something outside of Hogan's Heroes. Such a great talent, including directing and singing.
Goldie seems like she is hogging the stage from Don.
Reckon Kinch didn't count. Musta been the times.
Probably not, as I recall he was married to actress Kim Hamilton who was black at the time of his death.
+Chief Kurtz Ivan Dixon was written out of the show, when his character was accidentally shot by the prison guards when Hogan were setting up another Nazi who knew of his war operations at Stalag 13 to be killed. Wrong.
@@buffalobraves9 yeah I never saw that episode.
