  • We are LIVE with A1C Matthew Dambrosia, SrA James Carillo, SSgt Daniel Dikin and SSgt Travis Durand to learn about all things Security Forces (Air Base Ground Defense).
The duties of Airmen in Security Forces consist of ensuring on-base safety, conducting routine patrols, and monitoring crime scenes. Specialities within this career include Combat Arms Training (CA) and Counter-small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-sUAS).
Small, unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) have become an increasing threat to our bases, easily evading detection and allowing enemies to interfere with base operations. To protect against these hazards, Defenders operate C-sUA systems to detect and destroy sUAS, including electro-optical sensors, radar systems, weapons and directed energy.
Every Defender must be properly skilled and equipped to handle any situation and to uphold a high level of security on base. Combat Arms Instructors ensure Defenders are proficient and skilled in their ability to use weapons when an emergency arises. These instructors operate firing ranges, conduct marksmanship training for all Air Force personnel and perform maintenance on a wide array of weapons at their assigned bases. To learn more, visit the Security Forces career page.
Have questions about what that’s like? Our Airmen will be available throughout the hour-long session to answer them!
Learn more about joining here: www.airforce.com/careers/deta...
*Dambrosia, Carillo, Dikin and Durand will be available to answer your questions in the comments and live chat until 3 p.m. CT on the day of the event.

I was an Army Military Police officer and I conducted combat patrols and convoy escorts with Air Force Security Forces with me. They are basically like the infantry of the Air Force. If you want an easy job, Security Forces is not for you. You can get actually killed in war situation. That would not be the case with other jobs that the Air Force has that are more civilian oriented. I retired as SFC/E7 from the Army in 2015. I recommend people to join because the training and experience could help you if you want to become a police officer or similar jobs.

This career is like the Hotel: California. You can join anytime you like, but you can... NEVER LEAVE.
But seriously, in the interest of *"Integrity First,"* here's what I've experienced:
    - At least half of the people in confinement are your coworkers.
    - You will NEVER be able to take leave.
    - You will NEVER be listened to by your leadership.
    - You WILL be left out at your post and forgotten by your leadership.
-You will NEVER be allowed to switch career fields once you're in.
    - Leadership WILL put unstable/unsafe people back on patrol just to fill a body quota.
    - A personal life or protected time off? You don't get either.
    - Being honest about your mental health is the fastest way to find yourself on an even worse work schedule doing a more demeaning job.
    - Leadership knows your gear and working environment are damaging your health long-term. They have the authority/resources to change it. They don't care.
    - Even if its someone else's fault; it your fault.
    - Even if its no one's fault, its your fault.
    - Even if you're doing your job, its your fault.
    - You want to be K9 or CATM? Cool, just sign another 4-year contract and watch them tear up your cross training paperwork after you sign.
    - No way to change any of this without a change of leadership, who are almost never disciplined, only transferred.
    - RAMPANT ALCOHOLISM
    - THE DIVORCE RATE
    - THE SUICIDE RATE
    - ABYSMALLY LOW MORAL(see above).

If you want to do this fun stuff like on these videos, you have to really try hard for it. Be the person that stands out and be focused. If you know anyone who is prior Security Forces TALK TO THEM! Security Forces has this saying: "It's what you make of it." So if you see these videos and want to do this... just know that they only show the fun times and not the normal days for these people. I recommend that SF is only for you if you'd like to translate it into a police officer down the line and that's basically it unless you somehow get into investigations with OSI which is only for the really competitive people.

Was CIA. He saw live theator 4 times and ive watched him put down 8 tough guys in like 2 or 3 minutes. And he looked like Barney Fife.
I got into this field with the officer program after 4 years enlisted. I got 398 on my marksmanship, due to my father's training. Got Stationed at Minot in early 83.
My 1st Sgt George was a Chief Master Sergeant but i cant remember how to write that designation? I choose Flight ramp and Weapons Storage Area. But we also had Tac because of the ramp guarding North Border.

With some years of experience in SF you will have more options as to what subfield you would want to do in SF, like K9 or Combat Arms, but stuff like Raven is only at certain bases, so if you happen to get that base and can pass the physical fitness test.

My daughter is literally at Security Forces Tech school training right now, and it is ROUGH! It is like bmt on steroids they say! She graduated from bmt on September 7th, and has been at tech since then. They head to bolus (not sure if I spelled that right) on Halloween, and that is going to be even harder. Her team happens to be going during the national ruck challenge time so they have to do a ruck in double the amount of miles than they usually do. She will be fully graduated mid-December. She is just really going through it right now, I hope it gets easier for her. SecFo was NOT one of her choices when she joined. She dreamed of joining the Air Force since she was 7 years old and going into a Medical field, but her recruiter broke her heart when he said that Air Force doesn't have a medical field. She even studied really hard and retook her asvab with great risk to get a higher score in order to qualify for more opportunity to gain a job somewhere remotely close to the medical field. In which, she did score higher and qualify for surgical assistant. It landed on her list with her test score but her recruiter told her that she tested high enough, yes, but it was only the list for if she'd had the degree already and that it was not possible for her to choose it because she had to go to college first. So he told her the air force will train her but she needed to choose a job until then. He talked her into Security Forces. She was under the impression that she would only be doing Security Forces for a little while while she took courses to get into the surgical assistant. But once she arrived she learned that is not that case. It's not that easy to cross-train into a different field, and she has to find her own way of that education independent of the AF, which still does not guarantee her getting into that field. So now she is really stuck in this career that she truly despises at the moment. She is also stuck in it for 6 years, even though her final contract she signed was for 4 years but her original first ever contract that she did in the beginning either with the recruiter or at her first Meps meeting was for 6 years so they went by that. Don't get me wrong, it is a great field for having a civilian career later on in anything to do with law enforcement, as a police officer, or SWAT or a probation officer or correction officer Etc. Especially if that is your dream career or something you really enjoy it gives you a huge advantage and a foot in the door and this job will pretty much set you up for life with that. It's just not at all what she wanted for her future, but she's trying to make the best of it and she is going to start taking her medical courses on the side when she can find the tme because the SF shifts are sooooo long! I'm hoping that once she gets to her first base and they assign her Security Forces position on that base, I am praying that it is something that she enjoys. Because it's going to be really hard to do a crummy position in a job that you're already not happy with. But she absolutely LOVES the Air Force and has wanted to join since she was a child, so she is doing her best to stick it out for her future, and the future of her future family. But Security Forces is a lot of work, discipline and very athletically charged, for those looking to join that career. It's not an easy or lazy ticket into law enforcement as some think!!

MetaMiningX, it does not matter if you are single or married you must do your job.
Active duty is a full time job with full benefits and the opportunity to be stationed in other states or even other countries.
Reserve and Air National Guard (ANG) are normally part-time jobs with partial pay and partial benefits and normally where you currently live; you do not move.
No matter which you pick, when it is time to deploy somewhere you must go with your unit. Deployment means you leave your base you are stationed at (where you work daily) for a short amount of time, but you will come back to your base that you are stationed at. Deployment lengths for the Air Force on average are 4-6 months. The shortest deployment length among the branches.
