    I have OpenVAS (latest version) installed in docker-compose mode and gvm-feed-sync is not available in the gvmd container. Same for a few other binaries that I've seen in other tutorials. such as openvasmd.

    /usr/local/bin/greenbone-nvt-sync must not be executed as privileged user root
    Unlike the actual scanner the sync routine does not need privileges.
    Accidental execution as root would prevent later overwriting of
    files with a non-privileged user.
    Getting above error.

      Instead of updating just the NVTs, try to update all: #sudo gvm-feed-update

      Hi, no way out, you need to wait until the update in progress ends. It can take more then 10h

      @@shivaneupane5330 , the answer is yes, but if you don't want to wait and you are using openvas only on your VM, you should consider to use The Greenbone Enterprise TRIAL at a Glance. www.greenbone.net/en/testnow/

    My updates takes very long but is it recommended to update it?

    • @openvas3238

      Yes, the recommendation is to update, otherwise you will not be able to detect new vulnerabilities

      @@openvas3238 wow ok but is OpenVas the best vulnerability detector? or what would you say

    • @openvas3238
      @openvas3238  2 года назад

      @@lucaslindgren3237 that depends on what you want to do, because OpenVas e network vulnerability what means that is focus on networks and if you want to scan a web server, you will need another scanner focus on web, such as Burp suite, etc. To compare those scanners you need to categorize, compare network vulnerability scanner and in another hand compare web vulnerability scanner. I would say that OpenVas is one of the best open source vulnerability scanner for networks.
