When I visited the Farnborough Airshow a few years ago the closest station was North Camp about an 1 hour from Gatwick station direct service, and from Farnborough Main to Waterloo around 45min direct service this was a better option as services from North Camp to London required up to 3 changes but you could go to 3 stations Victoria/Paddington/Waterloo.
