■Contents
Join us as we explore the complexities of nuclear deterrence and work together to envision a future where we can all live in a world free of nuclear weapons, even under the most challenging security environments. Amid escalating tensions among great powers and increasing reliance on nuclear deterrence, this event seeks to provide a platform for meaningful discussions on how to move beyond the security centered on nuclear deterrence and work towards a nuclear-free future.
Co-organized with the Harvard University-MacArthur Foundation Beyond Nuclear Deterrence Working Group, consisting of scholars from 18 countries, this event will showcase research and initiatives aimed at rethinking nuclear deterrence. Our panel of experts from Japan and around the world will discuss the importance of questioning the concepts of nuclear deterrence, reconsidering the systems that support it, and exploring alternatives for a more secure world without nuclear weapons.
Our target audience includes individuals who wish to engage in constructive dialogue on nuclear disarmament but may need more knowledge to navigate security-based discussions on nuclear deterrence. This event aims to equip participants with the information and tools to contribute to future debates and deliberations in their communities and beyond.
