Yeah, I don't think ScrapMan knows how long range/heavy bombers work. 😂 I guess Trailmakers kinda "broke" him in that regard. He should probably try playing something like WarThunder in his off time to get a feel of how those types of planes... "plane".
In larger planes, aerodynamically you can't bank a turn at that speed, or at that angle. It's the same as to why a jet fighter can't turn as quick at high speed, the air basically prevents it. If you're going to take harsh turns you need to use more Yaw too. Other than that, love what this game is becoming
You should try to make a functional catapult with the gears. Not exactly sure how you would store the rotational energy but there's probably a way to do it with the flex beams. (maybe make a rope of chains?)
Yeah seriously, you have to basically not understand how planes work to think it's going to be stable at a 90 degree bank. Only very small, very fast craft can pull something like that off and they have to use the rudder as an aileron.
@@UnknownZYX_4085 I feel like thats where the gears idea came from. Seeing one of ScrapMan's videos that had the car with gears. Dev probably went "Huh. I could add that. Easy"
There was a question on r/trailmakers about the next 5 years in trailmakers and what we thought it would look like. I think the devs should use the engine in Instruments of destruction to make Trailmakers 2.
@@afoxwithahat7846 How are you so sure that this game uses Unity? It is a powerful engine, and is entirely capable of something like this, but the physics doesn't match what I would expect for Unity, it also doesn't have the same weird stability problems as I'm used to when it comes to Unity's physics engine.
@@nikkiofthevalley Nah, I follow the developer, IoD is made in Unity. They have a heavily customized physics engine, however. It is abased off of Unity physics, but with lots of work put into the destructibility.
If Microsoft flight simulator has taught me anything it’s that when turning, stay level with the horizon line and rotate at a 30 degree angle to turn. I haven’t really made it far into it and that’s basically the first thing it teaches you
The physics are actually very realistic. In real life, a normal plane will fall out of a sky if you tried to fly it sideways. Try only turning at 45 degrees or less and it should work much better.
I think the problem you've faced throughout the video ( the aerodynamics feeling weird when you roll and try to turn) could be explained by the wing placement. I think it might be too far forward. I don't know much, but I think you might get better results if you bring it and its propellers back a bit.
it's mostly because those "wings" aren't wings, the way they are coded is basically just that : if [go fast] = true then add [lift] all the wings do is check if the plane is going fast in the direction they are oriented in, and generate lift based on that. there is no simplified aerodynamic simulation going on like in trailmakers , it's boiled down to as stupidly simple as it can get for the sake of not overloading the CPU.
It’s also caused due to speed. The plane is stalling out when it turns to the side which means that it’s a mixture of speed and not getting enough lift when it’s on its side.
Scrapman: when it's horizontal it fine but when it terns or roll it doesn't know what to do Me:you literally going 90⁰ degrees side ways and its stalling
leave it to ScrapMan to figure out how to build a bomber plane in Instruments of Destruction 😂 well done. though I feel like you missed a perfect opportunity to add a squeaky toy noise to the impact at 16:23 as well as a Delayed Annihilation at 16:40
Ouhh they've actually done it. Created all these really cool Additions and their effects while keeping things simple. It's been really cool to this come along.
I think they added gears just bc they saw your video or something. tip: keep the roll at least 30 degrees more than that will have the risk of stalling
the devs should add a nuclear bomb as a final acheivment for completing the game. its like 4x3 and has to be armed first but when it makes contact or gets activated it makes a huge explosion, also maybe a mini nuke that still has a pretty big explosion but not as big.
The gears are super useful for adding more tension and power, I can finally make bigger hammers with less flopp and more power. Also, I recommend going into the menu, for this map when testing out flyers, just clicking "Delete Structures" SWIVELS HAVE A LIMITED ANGLE MODE, AND CAN RETURN TO CENTER. BRUH
The reason the aircraft is slipping and skidding in banks is because the vertical stabilizer is not large enough and not back far enough. Coupled with the weight of 4 “engines” causes the nose to drop as soon as you exchange vertical lift for horizontal lift. A proportional rudder to the craft is always important. It affects stability in loops and turns and stalls immensely.
This update looks amazing. And your plane too :) For the idea with gears, gyros, etc - how about something like mechanical model of solar system - Orrery? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orrery - maybe using gyros to 'cheat' planet/moon rotation on free spinning mount and using gears just to take care of rotation relative to sun / planet?
You basically built a bomber, bomber planes have multiple engines and don’t like pitching when they are sideways, fighter planes usually have 1 engine and are very maneuverable
You need to work on your dive bombing technique. You're lacking the dive part which is understandable seeing how you've built a medium sized bomber frame. Basically go up a bit higher and come down on it a lot more. But that aside, I'm wondering if you'd be able to make a ground skip bomb. Normal skip bombs were skipped on the surface of the water into dams or ships. But I'm wondering if there's something like suspension wheels or just suspensions that can be tacked onto a bomb that you could use to bounce a warhead along until it hit a building. Also, you should see about making a cluster missile with the new parts. I look forward to it.
you could make a drone with the gyroscope,oh and by the way,you may wanna have it be single engine if you want it to be controllable,4 engine aircraft are usually just bombrs
It doesn't look like the plane is being subject to aerodynamics, which essentially means instead of your plane gliding, its simply being pulled faster than its falling.

You basically build a WW2 bomber...You also could have saved a lot of time by right away building the same controls a plane has...
The drivetrains have a setting to limit how far it rotates, and maybe one for it to return to the center. You could use those as the wing flaps.
The reason the aircraft is slipping and skidding in banks is because the vertical stabilizer is not large enough and not back far enough.
