Fun fact: A Bug’s Life is technically a retelling of another story. A very old story, in fact. Specifically, the movies Magnificent Seven, and of course, Seven Samurai. They both have the same story. A village of defenseless farmers are being terrorized by an army of bandits and brigands. And one of them sets out to find a group of warriors, usually seven, to help the villagers fight and defend themselves against their enemy.

The movie's premise is the fable of the ant and the grasshopper taken to extremes: there isn't just one lazy grasshopper here, but a whole gang of nasty thugs, led by a sociopath 😬
The movie's main theme is rebellion against oppression; it takes just one person to take the first step, and everyone else will stand up for themselves. Flick telling Hopper off was the push the rest needed to rebel; he was essentially voicing their thoughts.

From what I remember. A Bug's Life is based off a old story from Japan about a poor village being forced to pay tribute to Samurai for their protection from bandits. They resolve the issue buy hiring street performers to act as decoys for a final attack. It's kind of made a apparent with the ending of the film with its firework display. As fireworks were invented in Japan.

6:51 actually after some research I think ants eat grasshoppers, and grasshoppers eat plants and dead insects
also the Pizza Planet Truck and A113 are seen in most Pixar films. John Ratzenburger (voice of PT Flea and Hamm the piggy bank) has voiced in every Pixar film from Toy Story (1995) to Soul (2020). Some of his voice roles are harder to spot than others, the reason he has voiced in that many films is Ratzenburger was (and possibly still is) considered Pixar's good luck charm.

I saw a trailer of the life action The Bug’s life, but it’s not supposed to be as the movie, but it’s mostly about biology and observing bugs of about their lives. If you get what I mean, and it’s now on Disney+

3:16 In real life, queen ants actually have wings once they become adults, as do male ants - they use it for a single flight where they go to find a mate, then the young queen ant loses her wings and finds a home to start a colony, and the male... I think dies shortly thereafter.
Also, worker ants are sterile females, contrary to popular belief.

React to Ants also. Released a month before A Bugs Life. Very similar but made from DreamWorks while A Bugs Life is from Disney and Pixar which is why it was more popular.

I’m kinda surprised that A Bug’s Life is still a one-off movie. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good movie (and a childhood favorite of mine) on its own and probably would be better off as a single film. But sometimes, I wonder if a sequel would work for this one.

I find it unlikely since most of its voice actors have passed away since the film's release in 1998. (Including Joe Ranft as Heimlich)

A good title for this movie, but two other old Disney gems I recommend are Atlantis and Treasure Planet. They incorrectly assumed the latter was forgotten, so they made Strange World though.

7:15 When I watched this as a kid, I didn't really think much of this scene, just Hopper lecturing Atta on how things work, but now... I'm sorta getting Jud and Laurey vibes from these two, like... Ew.

6:51 What gave you the impression that grasshoppers eat ants? The movie doesn't say they do, and even if it did that wouldn't make it true 😆
16:02 -Lol no, that isn't the Pizza Planet truck. That's just a generic trailer.- Edit: Never mind! I didn't see the truck next to the trailer 😅
17:05 I think this is a reference to a Hawaiian dish called pu pu platter. (It's an assortment of small meat and seafood appetizers.)
46:02 Yeah, he was nearly eaten by a bird once. They mention it near the beginning.
