Nice videos Jeff, really enjoy watching them. Just one request/suggestion, when you go for food, it would be great if you could show the food and mess hall, maybe 15-20 secs of video and a brief description of the food, would be great, thanks!
Yes I just mentioned the same thing to a couple other people and what I was telling them was I have footage showing the food and things like that I just need to get some video together where I can put it in there but I have footage showing a lot of the different food
Thanks as always I really appreciate it but sometimes I need to use small sections of music to cover up a lot of outside noise because as you know a lot of my videos are recorded outdoors with a lot of wind. I tried to use different types of music in the videos.
@JeffOnboard thanks for the reply. I used to work for the south african railways in the 1980s. I live near the port city of Durban. Years ago my uncle was a merchant mariner. Think he was working for the old Safmarine
Another great outlook on all the various ports Jeff, Even the placard in the elevator was interesting looking at all the different levels on the ship and what they are. Cheers Mate.
Greetings Jeff, I'm a Navy veteran and served 3.5 years aboard the USS Fresno LST-1182. I've crossed the Pacific ocean twice and when I tell landlubbers that the ocean can be many colors they can't get the head wrapped around this idea, thinking isn't the ocean always blue! Anyway I've made port in Hong Kong, Manila, Subic Bay, and have visited the Marianna Islands; Guam, Tinian, and Saipan. Enjoy your videos and as we used to say aboard the Fresno before we sailed out, "Haze gray and underway":)
First of all, thank you for your service, and that sounds like quite a great Port List . Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I hope to hear from you again soon😎🚢🌊⚓️
I'm the one who should say thank you for your continued support of this channel, which I really appreciate. Yes the "BS" factor is huge in this ridiculous world.😎🚢🌊⚓️ Thank you again and I will try to get another video up very soon.
Ternuzen is the entrance to the Gent Chanel. DFDS RoRo ferries are calling Gent and has to pass thru the locks at Ternuzen on the rout to Gothenburg and vice-versa
Thx a lot for the insights, Jeff! Does your company prefer Bremerhaven over Hamburg in general these days due to specific conditions or is it simply depending on your ship´s itinerary and varies from time to time? Hope, you enjoy Werder’s jersey 😊
On that run, we have gone to that port for many years. I don't know for sure, but I think they probably like the location, which would be my opinion, and the Jersey is absolutely beautiful...⚽️😎🚢🌊⚽️
I am shifting from bulk carriers to containers just because of clean cargo Timely sign off and visiting the world going shore leave in various countries I have never been on containers Are these things true with containers Do you get long sailings as well ?
When I work on the container ships the time at sea has never been extremely long. If you sail around Africa like some do nowadays it can take a little bit longer but it's never like 2 months or anything. And yes it is possible to get off the ship and enjoy different places as well and a clean environment as you mentioned.😎🚢🌊⚓️
The pay is okay I don't know what you make now but it is not bad to start. Keep in mind though we don't work all year but the pay we make in a given month is more than a normal job would pay
I’d like to hear your take on the Jones Act. How it affects you, your fellow American mariners, the American shipping industry, and the USA in general. I realize this may open you up to criticism if you give your honest perspective, as opposed to a both sides of the argument discussion but hey, you and your shipmates are a big piece of the industry so your 2c worth matter more to me then some ‘journalist’ or compromised politician. Thx Cheers.
That is a huge topic to answer in the comments section but it basically supports hundreds of thousands of USA jobs and shipbuilding and promotes a base of Merchant Mariners to be used for military support when needed. Could also promotes positively for the economy but there is also an opposing side which argues that increases the cost of shipping goods from certain places to other places.... I read somewhere that all of the Jones act ships supports up to about 650,000 USA jobs... There are definitely people on both sides of it and they both have separate points to explain their side....
It is impossible to please everyone with music because it is so diverse, and I just had to use a little bit in some small sections because of wind. A lot of videos I record are outside... I use various assortments of musical selections in different videos, not always the same music. Sometimes, it is necessary for reasons like I said because of wind or outside noise
Nice videos Jeff, really enjoy watching them.

Seeing these videos just makes me miss my days at sea when I was in the Navy back in the Eighties. Great videos.

Was maritime your preferred career choice, Jeff or did things just work out that way for you?
It's just something I found out about and it sounded interesting because I like working with my hands and I love to travel
Jeff, how do those in your profession deal with constant time changes and keeping their circadian rhythm somewhat on pace?
It is extremely hard we always feel the effects of all the time changes, among other things....😎🚢🌊⚓️

Hi there Jeff what is the pay like I am living in United States NJ. I currently drive tractor trailers
The pay is okay I don't know what you make now but it is not bad to start. Keep in mind though we don't work all year but the pay we make in a given month is more than a normal job would pay
Another thing you may already know about is there is a union hall in Jersey City
Do you get shore leave on container ship ?
Yes we do often....😎🚢🌊⚓️

shipped a car home from Bremerhaven in '74. alfa romeo, most unreliable car i ever owned
Did you ship it in a container like a 20-foot container or something? That is a cool story.
Great video, horrible music! Just leave it out if you can’t do better! Love ya!😊

Next time you'll wear the jersey to join me for a Werder match! Hope one day we'll be able to make that happen.
Green-white for life!💚🤍
I hope so. I want to see a match. ⚽️💚🇩🇪
