I am happy to see any tennis player win. They work harder than any of you spectators, who are too arrogant in your judgement. No one owes Djokevic anything. He is a multumillionaire with a legendary history of winning. He has also been a PIA many many times through his career.

"Tommy Paul for what? I play against him?" This guy has got charisma. The win is amazing on so many levels. He's just beaten arguably the best player of all time. He's also going to crack the top 100, which means straight into the main draw at slams. He is also going to be able to earn his living playing tennis now. Qualifiers don't even make enough money to pay their expenses. I would bet his manager/coach's phone is ringing off the hook today with calls from sponsors. Good for him.

"The win is amazing on so many levels" - No, not really... I mean, it is for Nardi obviously, he beat his idol, which is at the same time best player in history (currently). I don't really see what is amazing here. For start, he's 15+ years younger than Novak. He is in good form, he played an above average match for his standards. Novak is not at his best, that's obvious. You have to understand, each of these younger players play with 200% capacity and motivation against players like Novak. Best proof for that is the fact that Nardi lost the very next match.

Plus, pretty much every single player he plays against now is going to be extremely motivated bc they want to beat "The GOAT". That coinciding with his inevitable decline is a bad combo. Usually they say they didn't play well while at the same time praising their opponent. Its Psychology 101 to help deal with the loss. He is at liberty to say that he didn't play well. How much is that due to the play of the opponent we cannot really say.

The most glaring deficiency in Novak's game in this match and in the Sinner match at the AO, was his mobility which affected every other part of his game. Nardi played great and all the credit to him. A well deserved win.
But if anyone tries to tell me that Novak today was the same Novak that beat Alcaraz in Cincinnati last year and beat Sinner at the World Tour Finals in November, they are delusional.
The question is, why has his game dropped a few levels? Is it purely motivational? Lack of fitness? He looks slower, there's no question. His footwork is not up to standard.

Age is the answer to your question. Once you hit your mid thirties the decline in speed and explosiveness can be quite rapid. Also you are more prone to inconsistency in your performances. Exactly this. I’m not what people are expecting. As the months go by, the ‘bad’ performances are going to become more frequent. Might be a hot take but, because of his age it is now getting to the point where he going to need favourable draws to win a slam. He won’t have the legs to endure long 5 set matches especially from QF onwards and especially on clay which takes the biggest toll on the body.
