@@dalida.p. I'm not far off that age and I have vocal coached. The voice is a muscle like any other and vibrato is something that can be controlled to enhance a song. Some child singers use it excessively like lean zavaroni as she probably thought it made her grown up. I like vibrato but not excessively as it ruins songs and I guess some singers think it sounds sexy. It doesn't. Its all about control and definitely not age.
I agree that this type of singing is definitely an acquired taste…but I think in the context of the show and considering the character of Mama, I think it fits the (Broadway) character perfectly. And I also agree that Queen Latifah’s Mama was top tier, it fit perfectly with the movie. Roz’s voice is so motherly, rich and imperfect that I love her in this role.
