STAPLES CENTER (now Crypto.com Arena) Tribute Video - Derick Sebastian

Sometime in the year 2009...I had this crazy idea of performing the national anthem on ukulele, on center court at the Staples Center, for the historic Los Angeles Lakers! Initially, I laughed the idea away but as time went on, it became such a burning desire, I had no other option but to put this goal in motion. I "persistently" and "kindly" called, emailed, sent and even faxed letters to the Lakers...but no response, nothing! Absolutely crickets! It was a long 6 years until I finally got the call from Lakers executives, wanting me to perform the national anthem at their 2015 pre-season opener at the Stan Sheriff Center, in Honolulu, HI. Without hesitation, I took that opportunity and it was surely a success but...it wasn't the Staples Center! Then 4 months later, I got another call from the Lakers inviting me to perform at one of their home games in LA. After a long 7-years in the making, on March 10, 2016, my dream finally came true as I performed the national anthem on center court at the Staples Center, for a sold out crowd of 20,000 plus fans, as the world witnessed a historic game, being the last time Kobe Bryant competed against LeBron James. This experience was completely "over the top" as my performance was then featured on ESPN's SportsCenter! The very next year in 2017, I got invited back to Staples Center by the LA Clippers to also perform the national anthem at one of their home games, which was an absolute blast! Then in 2018, it was another thrilling national anthem Staples Center encore as the Lakers invited me to perform for LeBron Jame's Lakers debut. THANK YOU Staples Center, LA Lakers and LA Clippers for making my dreams come true...I'm truly honored and beyond grateful to be part of it all.
