    There’s just something really satisfying about playing good clean scales. Thanks for the reminder!

      Right? Honestly, Tyler and I went to lunch after recording and were like: "that was really fun and satisfying!"

    After reading this manga called Blue Giant which is about this kid aspiring to be the best sax player in the world, I got inspired to pick up sax after I reach a certain level with piano. Loved the music theory lessons here, so easy to understand!

    Dr. Wally I recently picked up Joe Viola’s book Technique of the Saxophone Vol. 1 on major scales, and I’ve really enjoyed learning my major scales in all 12 keys and starting from each scale degree. Better finger facility, better breath control, better voicing awareness. Funny how it’s all connected! Thanks for the video!

    Interestingly you never mentioned the dystopian scale. That''s the one that keeps coming out of my horn when I get the speed up

    I came for the scales and stayed for the 'boop'. By the way, what is the reasoning behind following the Circle of 4ths? When I memorised the scales I started with the Circle of 5th from C to F#, adding an extra #; then follow Circle of 4th from F to Db, adding an extra b. Not based on any musical theory, just that it seemed logical.
    Thanks for all you do Wally, you make these dry subjects fun.

      The boop helps the technique. Circle of 5ths is great...it's one bigger :)

    Excellent as usual Wally. I’ve been doing this every day since about 2020! (back when I saw my first Dr Wally video). When you say we can’t think about sandwiches during this process, surely you’ll make an exception for Reuben sandwiches? (kind of a deal breaker for me).

    • @drwallysax
      @drwallysax  10 месяцев назад +2

      Hey Bruce! Always make exceptions for a good Reuben. Man, I haven't had a good Reuben in a while....be right back...

    Talking about alternate key fingering... is there a method to decide when to use the front high F/E fingering versus the palm keys? I find it easier to play with the palm keys, but sometimes it works out better for arpeggios to use the front (like for the F arpeggio). Any suggestions?

    the url is very confusing. i already have an account but i cant find all these pdfs you mention there. when i give my email and so on i dont really get anything. shouldnt all this (new) stuff you put should be available for ppl who already have an account?
    thx for all the resources btw :D

    • @drwallysax
      @drwallysax  10 месяцев назад

      It's super easy - just click the link and fill in the box (click download). If you already have an account, your email isn't added to the list. Unless you have an adblocker or another problem, the .pdf pops right up in your browser.

    Scales, to me, is good basic work. Not a great player, at 100 the precision and effort to get quality tone takes effort and repetition, not to mention sight reading if you are looking at the scale
