- After being targeted by a witch known as the Wolf-Eateress, Nevena is raised by her mother in the solitude and safety of a cave. Still, the witch ends up finding her. Although guiding Nevena for a while, the witch abandons her for being useless. Thus, Nevena wanders around on her own, stealing other people's bodies so she can experience the world.

I think Maria had a bad heart not because she was a doppelganger (witch) but because she wanted revenge on people for burning her. Whilst Nevena being a doppelganger she still had hope people were good and won't hate her for being a doppelganger which turned out true when he husband still loved her when he found out.

I actually quite enjoyed this movie and the strangeness it brought. Her constant evolution through the different body skins were good too as I enjoyed seeing her basically shift her way through that village and fuck up their living system.

This is not really a horror film. Instead, it's a modern reimagining of an old-school fairy tale written by Australian screenwriter Goran Stolevski. This magical story is full of mystery, superstition, and witchcraft. In fact, this movie reminds me a lot of the Neil Jordan film the Company of Wolves (1984), which was a modern reimagining of the Little Red Riding Hood fable. (✿◠‿◠)
It is not an Austrian screenwriter, Goran Stolevski is Macedonian, and all in that movie speak some old Macedonian dialect. It is Macedonia at the beginning of the 19th century.

Yes, many Macedonians have dual citizenship, for various reasons. I think that in Australian vocabulary there is one Macedonian word, I heard that it is in the books, the word "Pecalbar", which is almost untranslatable in English. Pecalbar is someone who goes to some country, some rich country and lives there long decades, and usually comes back... My great-grandfather spent 40 years in the USA and was coming every decade, or sometimes on every 8 years, made child and then went back... He had 4 sons, one of those was my grandfather.
After some time, especially after 50s people stop coming back, they were making an effort to take their families wherever they were, and that is how those communities became, in Australia, Canada, the USA, and some other countries.

Actually "Macedonian" was just an ancient Greek dialect, because the Macedonians were Greeks/Hellenic people. But after the Bulgars invasion in Balkans during 6th and 7th century AD, in the region that is present day Bulgaria and some nearby regions, the Bulgarian language started to be spoken by many. The region that is called "Northern Macedonia" should actually be called Vardarska (it is the region that in ancient days was called Paionia (ΠΑΙΟΝΙΑ) by the Greeks. And I have heard by Bulgarians that they can understand the language of Vardarskian people (those people want to be called Macedonians , because they want to present themselves as descendants of ancient Macedonians, which is not true, they are a mixture of Bulgarians, Albanians, Greeks , and maybe a few others, probably some Romanians contributed there) , because they (the Bulgarians) that the language is just a dialect of Bulgarian language. So I am surprised that you , a Romanian, could understand the Vardarskain language! Because I assume that the Romanian language is not close to a Slavic language like Vardarskian. Did the Bulgarians that I talked to lied to me? Have you listened to Bulgarian language?

@@pacoro84 ΟΚ, so I suppose you were able to understand the few latin-origin words of the movie, or some slavic words that have passed over to Romanian language. But in reality the Vardarskian language is very close to Bulgarian, and also to Serbian (all 3 of them are Slavic languages) and not to Romanian. I am sure that if you go to Italy you will understand many more things. Even if you did not knew Slovak, in Italy you would understand many things.

The movie is really good, but it is not a Holywood movie, made by a Macedonian screenwriter and director, placed in 19th century Macedonia, I guess it is not standard, as some wish.
This seems like such a good movie I want those powers but why was Maria stalking that family what made her baby more special then others ?
You mean the first baby, Nevena? Nothing, the mother simply asked for time, the witch wanted the blood of the baby, but the mother promised something and the witch cut the vocal cords of the baby Nevena and give her time until the baby grows up... And when she was grown, the mother knew the witch will come, but the witch killed the mother...I don't know why she kinda adopted her and wasn't really good toward her but anyway told Nevena the secret of how to turn someone into which. but if you think about that last baby, the baby of Nevena, the witch simply wanted to kill eat, to drink blood, but Nevena was fast, did the ritual and turned the baby into which before it died.
I like the movie. Especially the ending.

The movie is about mountain villages of Vardarska. Macedonia was always a part of Greece/Hellas. The ancient Greeks (Macedonians were a kingdom of ancient Greece) called that place (that the movie refers to) with the name : ΠΑΙΟΝΙΑ, and after medieval times it was called Vardarska .

News flash. There was no country called "Macedonia" in the 19th c. There still isn't one. The only place called Macedonia that existed in the past since antiquity and still exists today is a region in northern Greece. Not a country. There used to be a country called FYROM after communist Yugoslavia broke apart into smaller countries but the name of this slavic region which later became a new country was Vardarska and not "Macedonia". And there is no "Macedonian" dialect. The language is a slavic dialect akin to Bulgarian.
