Monkees were one of the few bands of the 60s that didn't just talk about fighting the establishment, they actually DID it. They stood up to a MAJOR TV and record conglomerate to demand to they be treated as their own artists with a say in the records their names were put on, and they WON! Not only that, but they released some of their best stuff after doing so (Pleasant Valley Sunday, Daydream Believer, Goin Down, Randy Scouse Git, For Pete's Sake, and so much more)

"Headquarters" is my favorite Monkees album, but 'Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd." is probably the best one. I first had Iron Butterfly's "Iv-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" on cassette, but I eventually got the 1995 CD, which uses the real mastertape. I like the first two songs on Side One, and the title track on Side Two. It's surprising how successful this album was in its time. It was the biggest selling album of 1969, and for a time, the biggest selling rock album of all time. I wonder which album it superseded?, probably a Beatles album.
