Excellent educational video on Huperzias! I love this genus. I'm growing about 8-10 species in my home in California. I have to keep them by a humidifier. My substrate for my conditions is orchid bark, moss and perlite. You are right they like being on drier side!!
Wow ....yours are the most informative about huperzia that I'm looking for.. I love the transcript and the time lapse.. easier reference for us.....thank you....I have bought a squarrosa last week. It is so beautiful.....I do not know how to take care of it once in my home.....looking forward for your next video....thanks
@@BalbysHome hi..my huberzia is doing great..I bought mine already in a pot with only coconut husk chips no other mixed medium inside..just chips only..
Thank you for the great information and the video for all the different plants! It's really helpful to see so many other pots of the plant in different conditions!!
Hello bro James. Excellent explanation! I only have pelliona repens & few kind of syngoniums on my hanging baskets. Huperzia looks easy to take care of, hope so. Surely give it a try later based on your details here. Thanks again! 👍
@@TropicalGarden Oh my, glad that you pinpoint this tips. Yup it's my wrong to underestimate huperzia as an easy peasy growing pllants. My apologies Mr. James 😉🙏
Thanks for the video!! I got a HUPERZIA gloebii just yesterday and living in Canada I am very worried about my humidity! Hopefully it can adjust to lower humidity
This particular one is prone to root rot. Just make sure keep an eye at the root stem area As it doesn't turn black or mushy Other than that.. Once acclimatised with your general care, There is nothing to worry about. Good luck 👍
Gah!! I just trimmed off all of my old leaves 😭 I just got 2 huperzias today that came in Grab. A fishscale and a shoestring. I just trimmed off all the brown tips on my fishscale.🤦♀️ Should have watched this video first!! Thank you for doing this informative video of Huperzias James! So now I have to repot them right side up, cos they came upside down
I am so happy to find your video. Thanks for the informative sharing on how to take care of these plants. I bought a pot of Carinata. It did well at first and there were new stems coming out. Lately the stems starts to drop out from the pot. Can you kindly advise how to save it please?
Im so glad to hear you enjoy my video. Please check and follow through the rest of the other Huperzias videos in my playlist for more details. To answer your question Most likely it is facing root rot and the stem are collapsing under their own weight The only thing to do to save it is to unpot n check what medium is used - if its totally sphagnum moss, mix it with coconut chip. Hang it upside down anf let the water drip out naturally for 2 days and water it on the 3rd day Please understand that these are super slow growing plants. So when they are stressed - it will take awhile for it to stabilise and grow back. As long ad something green is still hanging, there is still hope. Good luck
I have one question: how do you hang the tassel ferns upside down. I have just purchased my first two and keen to get it right. I have Huperzia carinatum coarse Solomon and P.ladermannii QLD black stem.
Basically I will carefully cut the bottom of tge pot with a cutter Tie up the root ball with a string n fasten it at the hanger part While inserting the portion carefully into the pot in a reverse way There might be some medium spill can take place if the hole is too big. Normally I will place some pillow cotton fibre in between to hold the spill or use coconut fibre as a restrain dampener. Hope this helps
I have just bought tassel fern a week ago, I am not sure if it will survive, its turning yellowish for its raining always nowadays, just pray it would survive because I love it how it looks!
Daily as long as the medium is suitable - not soaking wet Yes - they love it when the leaves get watered however to practice caution is the place is very damp. They love airy places.
this is a beautiful plant. I got this about 3 weeks ago out of whim even tho i didn't know much about it. How often do you water them sir? I also watched your 2nd video on this plant where you advised not to plant them upside down...
Watch the latest video. I tried doing it without upside down n the plant died. Hence the upside planting is the best so far. The set back is the root ball get chocked But when the plant is planted on thr top of the hanging basket.. prone to stem and root rot. Hence after years of experimenting.. Hanging up side down is better in my zone and condition
Hi there...i have 2 broken branches from my Huperzia Phlegmaria plant, just wondering if it will root if I just stick it back into the soil? Any chance of survival? Thanks for ur time.
I love the vid, but i have a question. What is the best way to pot the Huperzias? I see most hanging them upside down.. Looking forward to your reply. TIA!
@@BalbysHome it's been raining almost every other day in my country now so humidity isn't much that of a problem, I don't look after them much anymore, they grow just like they're in the forest. ☺

Excellent condition and less plant care My older comments are missing. So not sure whether I had missed out on the replies. Basically both ways of planting is fine. Upside down or normal. How to propagate tassel fern plant, how about if the leave making brown can they survive
plant division
I have just ordered this plant call huperzia phlegmaria.. Can you share how to propagate them?
Live root propagation takes a year.
Almost feels like forever and always challenging.
Does this require sunlight? Any fertilizer that could enhance growth
