    Update.... 3000 miles now. Several fill ups. On this tank I made a fuel measure stick. 24" wooden dowel. Marked 17.5" which is 95% capacity of 86 gallons. No leaks, no drips, no overflow from cap or vent. This thing is amazing. Gives me 800+ miles of severely loaded range....

    Use a grommet where the fuel line runs thru the bed of the truck. Over time a hole will rub thru the line without a rubber grommet.

    Typically I leave my valve open all the time when I'm towing. However when I forget, I did a few times drove the truck for few hundred miles, i turn the valve open and it will take several hundred miles to get to 3/4.. It never gets to the full mark until I pull off for some food or something shut truck down then it registers full. I've pulled in colorado mountains half fuel in main tank and aux tank valve open it still keeps up filling fast enough. Like u said it's a slow trickle but its still enough flow.

    Update... Tank has been at 80 gallons of fuel bypass valve opened with no leaks. Some inquire about pressure feeding back up the filler neck and out the fill hole. After inspection it seems there are in fact 2 flaps the must be open simultaneously to fill the main tank. So I assume the two flaps seal tightly enough to prevent overflow. I however did however take extra precautions and added a aluminum fuel cap with an O ring...

    Traded in my 07 Ram 2500 for a 17 Ram 2500. Need to install my RDS tank in my 2017. Question concerning the 011408 install kit. Did it come with the 2 pieces of extra hose for use on the filler pipe? I seen pictures of the kit where does not show the extra hoses. Thanks....

    My RDS valve is installed just like yours. It's level with the brass valve at the 12 o'clock position. My tank only came with two 2" holes. I use a vented cap on the driver side and until today, plugged the other side. I just now placed a vent on that side and an hour later, it isn't leaking. I do however hope the second vent isn't causing the tank not to drain but I don't see why it would.

      Without seeing your tanks setup and how you ran everything it's hard to say. . My rds tank has one rollover ball brass vent the other holes have gaskets and metal plates and obviously the filler cap.

    Appreciate it your quick response. So while your towing you leave the valve in the on position. Should you turn it off when the truck isn't being used or does it not matter? I'm also installing in a Ram 3500 2017 model. Does it mess with the trucks mpg reading? I've talked with some guys and they said there truck will throw an error code having to do with fuel sensor.

    • @kendallsloan3741

      I leave my valve open all the time, except if it will sit for days. I have forgot to close the valve and left it for over a week with no issues but I don't make a habit out of it... Everything I read from forums before installing this tank was that Dodge trucks don't throw codes for fuel... And I haven't ever thrown a code before... With both tanks full u will travel 700+ miles before you need the main tank... I have 7800 miles on the truck now. Never had a single leak or dash light.

  • @Abnmarine1970
    @Abnmarine1970 7 лет назад

    Yes it leaks from the stock fuel fill flaps. I spoke to my dealership and they said a few trucks had a leak so they replaced the tube assembly. They aren't concerned about the RDS kit since it doesn't leak from there.
    I just installed a 90 degree vent elbow on the transfer tank, opposite of the fill cap. So for it appears to of stopped the leak but I need more time to know for sure. If it cures it, my guess is the vent cap on the transfer tank wasn't venting well enough, possibly causing the vent to pull through the flaps?

    • @kendallsloan3741
      @kendallsloan3741  7 лет назад

      I think they might be right and you might have a faulty filler neck. when I installed my and I made sure to be at the lowest point from the RDS supply line as flat as I could on the filler neck so I cut into the metal. I have read and listen to people tell stories about with the valve open on the RDS tank if you accidentally open both flaps on the filler neck the air pressure is released and the fuel starts to literally spill out of there. the two flaps inside the filler neck should give it enough pressure that both air and or diesel fuel should not be able to escape

    • @kendallsloan3741
      @kendallsloan3741  7 лет назад

      I wanted to tell you I bought a aluminum gas cap with a gasket that might be why I don't have issues. It fits inside really snug so maybe it seals pressure enough I don't have a leak... Check them out online.

    Great video. I use my truck pulling a 40' trailer on a daily basis. Will the gravity feed system in the RDS tanks feed enough diesel to keep up with the demand? I like the price point of the RDS tanks but wonder if I would be better off with a different brand that already has the electric pump installed. Thanks for your opinion.

      Oh yeah it will keep up.... I pull a 40' Tripple axle toy hauler. I have forgot to turn the tank valve on while towing. So I just drive u til I need to pee ya know. Then open the valve. If ur pulling u won't see the gas guage move much if at all.. It will maintain the main tank level. I pull in colorado mountains and have had no problems it keeping up... U should definitely install it with confidence....

      I have put 6000 miles on it now I leave the valve open when I'm driving it. I check often to see if there are any small leaks or spitting anywhere. • @Darkwardrums77
      @Darkwardrums77 6 лет назад

      It says in the RDS instructions that you're supposed to locate the vent for your factory tank and extend it up to and above the level of the RDS tank so that that won't happen.

    • @kendallsloan3741
      @kendallsloan3741  4 года назад

      Not really sure on that, what I did do is make sure the the aluminum tee fuel inlet was as level as possible and that I was far away fron any bends in the original fuel filler neck so all the clamps wouldn't be bound up in a bend. I used a cut off wheel and the a flex magnet to gather metal shavings, all these years still no drips or overflows. 24000 now

      @@kendallsloan3741so you did have to cut off some to fit the "T" in between the rubber and metal ? Does the T slide into the metal filler side or is it supposed to be flush

    • @kendallsloan3741
      @kendallsloan3741  4 года назад +2

      The rds kit comes with two fuel grade connections and 4 hose clamps, yes you will need to remove enough oem filler neck to insert the aluminum tee, don't make it a tight fit as you need room to slide each connector on so that it can then slip over the tee and you have enough oem filler neck pipe to make a secure tight connection.
