I’m a psychologist. And I have to say, “Dr. Lenin” actually asks all the right questions. If this is truly improvised, his mind is perfectly suited as a therapist. And Nina is either a brilliant actor, or she actually has some real issues. I love this series.
I have no psych training, but can't believe there isn't a lot of genuine stuff coming out here. This isn't just comedy. -Especially when Monkey isn't given a voice. As you say, trained or not, he's asking good questions. It's the questions, not the formal training usually required, that cause introspection and revelation. Not uncommon for performers to be compulsive divulgers, but it seems brave to publish a vid like this.
you took the words right out of my mouth...plus, not to forget, this after all is a comic act about ventriloquism...so, in the absence of the puppet (well, kind of...) and in exploring the deeper roots of her relationship w Monk, Nina has taken this age-old art to a new level. Am I mistaken or is this what work with Virginia Satir's "Parts-Party-Concept" would look like?
Dr Lenin desperately wants to underdstand as much as Nina. He's not asking the right questions, he's trying to protect himself/serve himself. He's being played and he doesn't really know how and he struggles to maintain face. He is terrified and he's dying inside. Nina keeps giving him chances but it prolongs the torture. She can't do anything else, she can't help him out of his hole because his lie to himself is, 'I'm the therapist so I must be the well and knowledgeable one'. Deep down he knows that he hasn't done the work on himself, hasn't had the courage to go far enough, just enough to maintain his social position. Lenin makes me angry as I watch him try to maintain a facade which he knows is a lie. Make them all twist Nina, rub their noses in truth.
@@jamessherburn I think what you say is fully true for the CHARACTERS. But so much of the ironic drama and confusion and humour in this comments section is from the many souls who keep confusing the characters with the actors! Although many know Dr Lenin is a farce, nobody really knows how much of Nina the patient is real! Lol. And, we'll never know unless she one day deconstructs it for us. Seek out videos of Adam Magido's improv work. That then gives an insight into this series.
Am I the only one who thought, at any moment, Monks head was going to slooooowly come up from behind one of their chairs? I would have LOST it. Great, imaginative, stellar viewing. I’m truly falling for this lovely woman. ✌️❤️🇨🇦
My god I can't tell if these are real therapeutic sessions or just brilliant comedy. May be a bit of both, either way I am hooked. Well done Nina and Adam.
It's a brilliant series. I am consumed with the idea, that although it is improvisation, Nina is constantly telling the truth. Adam whatshisname does a superb job as the challenged therapist, who is being put in very uncomfortable positions because of monkey. I will definitely continue watching.
Brilliant, just brilliant. You are an extraordinary performance artist, thank you for sharing your brilliance. You left ventriloquism behind and you have entered a whole new artistic realm that you yourself created. Innovation like this is very rare. Pure genius.
"I just hate NORMAL HUMAN LIFE! It's so GRIM it's so STAYED" - wow, can I relate to THAT! Thank you for saying that on camera to so many of your fans...thank GOD the fun begins after life.
Nina is absolutely amazing in every wat she is captivating just looking at her and her humor and skill with what she does a amazing beautiful in every way human being God bless you and thank you for everything !!
She is so fascinating. Talented in such a bizarre way....something about her. She actually seems a bit crazy in a way that I find so alluring. Add all that to the fact that she's gorgeous makes Nina one hell of a sexy woman!
Nina's talent is unmatched, seductive, and playfully hazardous to reality itself. So pleased I was afforded the chance to view her work. Thank you. PS. I guess I will be left not knowing how much external control I'd be willing to invite into my life - Nice work love.
I'm a saxophonist that makes a living busking, playing 3 hours a day, improvising, most days. What you said, nina, about a voice or outlet for a truth that could cut through normal grim human interactions really speaks to me. Busking has turned into my job now so even when I'm feeling like i hate the human race and all it's awkward, nonsensical behaviour, I'm still shackled to this 'voice' to try and get a reaction out of people. Sometimes i really want to scream at people, and often do through the medium of a jazz solo, or Get someone's attention through an unexpected sweetness, or maybe a literal growl at a police officer. I even feel sexual tension sometimes from women who give me coy smiles..... A women has even flashed me before! Monkey and jazz improvisation might have a lot in common, both being a direct abstract expression of something, perhaps publicly humiliating, hidden inside us. I suppose a talking hand is not much different to a saxophone. Very eye opening. Thanks for that insight, I'll use this idea this afternoon while i play.
Genius of her own kind- I was trying to categorize her like an Andy Kaufman, or a Jim Carey BUT NO she is so different- and so genius to herself- wow she is something
Nina Conti's mind, her inner and outer beauty is so alluring - I've never seen and listened to anyone so utterly seductive. My pleasure receptors light up like a pinball machine giving a replay!
Wondering if I would be disappointed if this series was intended to make yourself more interesting. I find you (Nina) , genuinely whole and inviting, without the slightest need to artificially enhance your completeness. This series is both absorbing and alluring. Charmed beyond words.
Hi Nina, I’m not sure any of us are ever completely done. That’s the beauty of life isn’t it. Exploring more and more of ourselves with the help of friends and family. Sure some of us get messed up more than others but if we want to understand ourselves and others better we can do that, can’t we? I think these seasides are showing this very well.
Her idea of providing therapy together with monkey is so intriguing. Would it be helpful to have a therapist who blurted out all the unsaid things? I think maybe.
It's on the sad side now as she is starting to show herself but still has the great ability to toy with people mainly in a humorous way at her own cost.
She reminds me of a couple exes. Very fun, very sexy and very messed up. She likes playing the games. She knows it isn't always appropriate, but does it for the kicks.
I adore this lady.Beautiful and clever. She was in a long relationship with a man old enough to be her grandfather....Ken Campell. But he was a bit special as well.
Of all of these episodes so far this is the one that felt the most realistic to me... This seemed to be genuinely cathartic... I'm sure that Nina has, at some point, had to come to terms with Monkey being a "part" of her in a very real sense and having to deal with what that means and how she handles the thought process and maybe she feels like she can't be herself without his help...... But whatever it is it's certainly entertaining!
I've been watching this and totally enjoying. Monkey was a integral part of my life growing up; it's comforting to know I'm not alone. Nina. Great work. I just want to put a shoebox on my lap and give you a puppet show! oops; that's monkey talking.
Now why would you say that? To be honest, after all the funny stuff she does in her show....I ALSO THINK SHE"S HOT. Monkey needs to keep his hand off her boob :)
Being a great armchair psychologist as I am she's literally acting out another one of her shows and payment for each piece of work she does on the camera is just another day on the job.
Amazing! I would do a therapy with Monkey and pay for it to help me with my life :) ! When will this become a reality? Can be done through Zoom. I think it would be revolutionary!
I perceive that there is much confusion in some commenters about the juxtaposing realities of comedic acting vs "the real" Nina; Adam's comedic improv vs a real therapist. I see it this way: The lines drawn between acting vs real, and client vs therapist, and comedy vs seriousness, are all null and void. If those two were talking in a pub as friends, the same games/realities might be going on as in this RUclips comedy video. If they were in real therapy, the same games might be going on as in this RUclips comedy video. In other words, Nina has given us (ie, written and played) the perimeters of our perceptions (ie, This is a comedy skit I made for youtube). BUT, viewers have each brought to it their own inter-relationships with the lines spoken, such that for some viewers it seems very real. For others it is a clever joke. For others, a commentary on the layers of the human psyche. For others, a commentary on therapies per se. And the ultimate truth is that we cannot KNOW where there is any line of separation between truth and fiction because we are not Nina. And ... maybe even Nina does not know that! What, for instance, if Nina and Adam did once have a crush on each other (as comedians/actors). How might that be playing out here in pseudo-therapeutic comedy. We just don't know. So, ultimately, we just interpret and enjoy it AS WE ARE, not as IT IS.
Feel like this episode is almost an entirely genuine conversation, about the actual sketches themselves. Maybe the most meta so far? This series really sucked me into it.
I think Nina Conti is absolutely BRILLIANT!
I KNOW she is !! ✌️✌️🇬🇧🇬🇧
When you are on the knife edge of, ' Is this real or is this performance art?,' you have great art.
