This is not mini Ekranoplan, Airfish-8 has designed in reverse delta wing concept of Dr. Alexander Lippisch (in 1963, Iowa US). Ekranoplan ara based in planoform design by Dr. Rostislav Alexeev (Soviet Union, 50s and 60s).
This kind of craft would perform really well in the Amazon riverbasin here in Brazil, where most of transportation of goods and people happens with traditional boats.
If it does it can't go too deep at all, as it would make it too heavy to fly, but if its made of graphene/graphite then it can be sleek enough to remain light and fast.

probably nothing, actually. The mass is quite considerable and these wings are not flexible like mach speed aircraft have to be. Really they just look like two katamaran hulls, they would cause drag, but that would just end with the vessel touching the water, which I guess is ok for boats to do
It is not likely to happen. Ekranoplans are self stabilising. As the tip gets closer to the surface more lift is generated which automatically picks it up again.
Watched the video in silent mode....I called its flight ability "Ground Effect"....The Russian Jets such as the Black Jack bomber use Ground Effect over seas.
I could see it as a high-speed mode on a catamaran design, or a hovercraft alternative if you fitted it with wheels and a drone stabilization/piloting system. Just like this, though, it's hard to think of it as being more than a tourist ferry or other tourism-oriented vehicle.

@@Katranxp no they werent.
Zoomtronic , first designs were done by Italian, then German-American and later by Georgian engineer from the city Tbilisi.
Russian guy who was actually a Ukrainian native,
built his design last....And not in 50’s, but in 70’s.
@@HannyDart weren't they built for the military but for search and rescue since the ekranoplan could get to a sinking vessel or crashed plane much faster than a rescue boat? Also remember reading somewhere that they were looking to attach anti-ship missiles to the ekranoplan but I'd have to find that again before I say it's a fact.
Soviets you mean
Absolutely fantastic just missed the solar energy on the sides.
At what heights do it fly
This is total nonsense. You should know that the areas are much too small to absorb and pass on enough solar energy to the engines.
@@rheinmoses If this was electric and used every day, obviously it would have to be charged from an external source. However, covering the large surface area with solar panels would decrease the amount of electricity required for such charging by a meaningful amount. If it was used once a week on the other hand, charging through the solar panels could easily be sufficient for such usage, potentially eliminating any requirements for grid charging.
not really some idea
actually nevermind
Immediately saw this and thought of that one really intense Japanese paper airplane contest I was recommended where thepaper plane would hover to the ground forever
I want one now
I can't see this working on any other than a calm day.
Flying close to the sea surface produces lift but only on calm seas.
That's what I thought too. I wonder what happens in rough seas. If you set off on a trip and the weather turned bad?
Even in rough seas, it will fly at an average of the wave height and trough.
Looks like an airplane, flies like an airplane, it's a freaking airplane!
No One:.......
Bruce Wayne: Does it come in Black?
Skyler Leavell I had not scrolled down far enough but great minds think alike. #justposted
I call BS. Wayne Enterprises would buy this company out and give it to Morgan Freeman to run.
🤣 🤣 🤣
Its always colored white to prevent heat coming inside
@@juzminbarredo1798 do you know who Bruce Wayne is?
Hint: it's a fictional character.
Incredible marriage of conventional marine and aviation technologies (60s NASA lifting bodies, morphing in Space Shuttle, etc). Pleae produce more on this product. I see a small fortune to be made with this!
NO MORE SHIPS THEN AND SEASICK IF THATS WILL BE THE NEW WATER TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES
Redstone Tnt, only a flat desert.
I only get sea sick when docked or anchored:/
It does not work with waves, the video shows only flat water.
..the original ones [ekranoplans] are made to cut through waves as well..
It looks (very) cool & because of the low altitude (and being above water) I imagine it would also be (relatively) safe. I think it would be a blast to have a ride in one :-)
That shot at 2:15 with the music looks pretty cool.
Not new technology (see the Russian Lun-class ekranoplan), but still awesome. This could reduce cost/time of using ferries.
It's Soviet
Test in big waves
Thinking the same thing. Wonder how well it will perform at Nazare Portugal.
Its only able to be on flat grounds it would go down
For those who keep calling this a plane:
It’s a “Ground Effect Vehicle”, and it has more in common with a hovercraft than it does a plane.
Wouldn’t be suppressed if it is unable to get more than 10ft off the water.
It can’t get more than a meter, I believe.
Reincarnation of Ekranoplan
Ekranoplan is a aircraft this is a BOAT!!!!
This is a mini Ekranoplane, and it works, I think it is great.
ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΣ ΓΑΛΑΝΗΣ nah it just looked like aircraft ... but functioned just like this
Soviets invented this, they had huge planes for transporting things across water.
Keyhan Hadjari yea but just like this one and Ekra plane it will fail. They won’t survive in a heavy weather.
No they didnt.
@@toordog1753 They did, it was a ground-effect aircraft designed to move faster than boats across water.
The Soviets also invented gulags. We don't talk about that.
@@world-traveler880 Because that's not related Sherlock.
Мы здесь тоже первые. Наши разработки на западе нашли своё применение. Экраноплан имеет будущее - это печаль авианосцев. Спасибо АЛЕКСЕЕВУ!
Все разработки у немцев вывезли после войны,они были первыми!
This kind of craft would perform really well in the Amazon riverbasin here in Brazil, where most of transportation of goods and people happens with traditional boats.
I can picture some wicked nose over crashes in rough weather
could be a life saver as a sea ambulance
now make it submerge able...part aeroplane, part boat, part submarine....i call it *AEROTRINE*
Hadippu B beautifuly said
Well said
If it does it can't go too deep at all, as it would make it too heavy to fly, but if its made of graphene/graphite then it can be sleek enough to remain light and fast.
A Sparrow technical pure graphite Is imaginary
Have you been paying attention to recent discoveries? Sounds like you don't.
Hows it do against waves though lol
Reminds me of a sting ray
The whole time I was wondering “what about crappy weather? Choppy waves?” All these clips the waters like glass. Lemme see what it can do over a wave or two lol. Cool design though
Do you take your boat out or fly a plane in crappy weather/choppy seas? But in case of sudden weather changes, I’m sure you can just use this as a boat & cruise in the water!
I was kind of curious, you catch a wingtip and you're in a lot of trouble!
No it aquaplanes on the wing tips Yeah sure we all know it's old Russian tech but its still cool.. big waves on the other hand would be interesting indeed!
Why is it that there are dozens upon dozens of great ideas like this every year that you never hear another peep about ?
That's looks like something new and geneus, BUT what about big waves? For example waves for 0.5 meters, can this invention go into open seas?
"That's looks like something new" lol, not at all.
@KHALIIL01 The Russian craft couldn't operate in heavy seas either. They only used it in the Black Sea.
What are you talking about? Waves in the Atlantic could reach 5 meters, even more... edit: aka 15'
It's gonna be a bumpy flight thru waves🤣🤣🤣
@シーマン
true, 15' waves are babies
That new type of vessel begs for a question regarding red tape (law):
Does one has to be an aviation captain, or does being a yacht captain suffice?
It looks great flying over glass.
Does it come in black
The good thing about this is you dont have to worry about hitting the sea floor
It would certainly work well in littoral waters.
Brilliant idea. Watching this in 2021. Where is it at now?
You would've moved some serious "weight" with these in the 80's! 👏👏👏
An ekranoplan!
Yes we have been working on secret plen xaxaxaxaxa )))))))
Ekranoplan is a aircraft this is a BOAT!!!!
ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΣ ΓΑΛΑΝΗΣ ..it's neither an aircraft nor a boat.. It's a ekranoplan. And there were similar Russian models as well.. look up ESKA-1, or XTW ekranoplan models for example.
ESKA-1 is a copy of X-114 reverse delta wing of Dr. Alexander Lippisch. The term of IMO is WIG craft Type A, B or C. Ekranoplan has called by Russians the planform design of Dr. Alexeev. Chinese XTW is a copy of Dr. Lippisch reverse delta wing too. If you don't understadt the difference in design and terms then is your problem. SHIP and Aircraft is different transportation mean.

Fantastic video!
A speed boat and a Cessna walk into the bar together...
1980-we have flying cars in the future
2018-we have a flying plane-boat hybrid
We have had for over 100 years
The first seaplane was made in 1910
This concept has been around since cold war
jerry jjs you're ignorant it's called ekranoplan it's been around before you were born
true we do have flying cars coming and drones and now this good observation then !
A cool personal toy. Not for mainstream

marine travel: "Am I a joke to you?"
AirFish-8 : Im revolutionary!
Waves: Im bout to end this whole mans career.
caspian sea monster : i did it first
AirFish -8 It's Not Revolutionary ..........Russian Origin Invented " Ekranoplan " Caspian Sea Monster Is Real World Shocking Revolutionary. Haaa.....Haaa.....Haaa.
That is such a bloody cool craft !!
I wonder if it's operational now since its 2019 already.
Yes ... what's happened??
They have a website : wigetworks.com, apparently they managed to get certifications in Singapour and Malaysia, as well as from Lloyd, but are only flying a few of them. Initial plan was to market it in 2020, but it's still in pre-production stage...
A GIANT stingrey
Simply Brilliant!!
"344 miles on one tank."
How many gallons in the tank?
What's the mpg?
whatever a V8 gets 15 miles per gallon divided x 344 you get a 22-gallon tank - now don't get all stupid technical on this .....
It’s not about the mpg, it’s about the range - 344mi.
@@jameshumphrey9939 You think this vehicle has a 22 gallon tank?...laugh my ass off!!!
GO back to high school car shop...This is an airplane.
The first time a wingtip hits a wave, its going to dock like an anchor.
LOOKS AWESOME FOR THE NAVY.
Disclosure: Over calm seas only....
like the Caribbean 99% of the time ... great there and thousands of other similar places
He doesn't mean it won't work in rough seas, he means that even waves 3ft high can completely destroy this thing.
The sign on the top of the craft should say "well,it works"😕😕 now let's offer a completely overpriced ride to some tourist!!!
Om glad they did this, ekarnoplan tech is just too beautiful to die out
What happens when the wing tip clips the water at 120mph?
probably nothing, actually. The mass is quite considerable and these wings are not flexible like mach speed aircraft have to be. Really they just look like two katamaran hulls, they would cause drag, but that would just end with the vessel touching the water, which I guess is ok for boats to do
It would be extremely disastrous.
Very bad things I imagine.
doesn't happen unless you are in some serious trouble and the boat goes up 1000 feet then nosedives - like the 1000 club if you know what i mean!
It is not likely to happen. Ekranoplans are self stabilising. As the tip gets closer to the surface more lift is generated which automatically picks it up again.
Needs twin turbo v8 or small jet engines. Body made of co2 fiber/aluminum then we will have fun
I'm sure some twin turbskies are the first thing those kids in Dubai are gonna put on this
what is co2 fiber?
Ron Smith coconut husk.
Where is mine? Love it. Thanks so very much for sharing.
Just like "flying" cars. Nice concept, but will never get off the ground. (Now that's funny) 😁
Basically it's a UFO but floats on water instead of air.
*Still looks very cool tho*
Ufo = Unidentified flying object.
Really great for those who love air and sea traveling
And if that wing tip accidentally touch the water. Bye.
Russia did that a long time ago.
It's so beautiful
Finally, an almost perfectly safe venicle
Who came here from the Real Engineering channel?
I came here first after the curious droid video. Then now a second time after Real Engineering.
Watched the video in silent mode....I called its flight ability "Ground Effect"....The Russian Jets such as the Black Jack bomber use Ground Effect over seas.
That was pretty damn good
I can’t see this type of travel ever taking off. 🤦🏻♂️
I could see it as a high-speed mode on a catamaran design, or a hovercraft alternative if you fitted it with wheels and a drone stabilization/piloting system. Just like this, though, it's hard to think of it as being more than a tourist ferry or other tourism-oriented vehicle.
So basically can't sail as fast as a boat and cannot fly as fast as a normal plane, that's why the soviets discontinued it
sonic boat?
@John Phox he means when the water is rough and you can't fly in it, it won't sail as fast nor as good as a modern day boat, and when it's flying 2 ft off of ONLY calm water it's not as fast as a modern day plane. Get it now?!?
The new supersonic stingray looks cool as hell.
