!986/87 was when the AIDS epidemic really started to take off. In 1985 I knew no one with AIDS/HIV, but by 1987/88 I had lost half a dozen friends, and It just got worse from there. Every year I was losing 2 to 3 friends and by 1995, all my friends were gone. Their deaths haunt me today.

@Adam B a lot of LGBTQ individuals were MURDERED just for being who they are. It's not right, but it happened. Trying to downplay the tragedies they suffered and fought so hard for is toxic. I'm sure those who have survived are proud and waving their flag with pride. But we cannot forget the past for it has the potential to repeat itself.

Oh the 80s, when we were just Gay, before the Q and T got added.
It'll be another 10/11 years before i discover my local Gay Village and attend a Pride Parade, it seemed almost magical at the time and helped dissolve any shame or guilt a 90s gay boy carried from the bullying in the 80s.
Funny how now, my shame and guilt have returned but not from my sexuality, but "my community", whom seemingly have decided to play Water Sports and Scat Games all over the work that was done by the Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals of the past, which already included our Trans brothers and sisters.
