  • Looting Nigeria (2000): This film examines huge levels of corruption by the government of General Sani Abacha, who stole money from the national treasury and had it laundered in London banks.

Two years after his death, Abacha is known in the west as the man who jailed and executed human rights activists, including Ken Saro-Wiwa. Today Nigeria's new democratic government is investigating broader crimes of the former regime. A detailed report states that "London was used to transfer money out of Nigeria and to launder the proceeds of [...] pillaging". Obesanjo, the new president of Nigeria says: "This is our money. We expect to get it back from wherever it has gone". This investigative report reveals how several London banks failed to notify authorities of suspected illegal dealings by clients, and how they thereby acted as accomplices of international corruption and crime. "If you receive stolen goods... you are as guilty as the thief", says president Obesanjo.

'My suspicions are not your suspicions, I'm a complete and utter moron, I don't find a public servant with 1 billion dollars in liquid funds to be suspicious. Maybe you would.. a matter of personal opinion.'

How is Citibank still allowed to exist? We need to apply the corporate death penalty to it and every other corrupt corporation.

It's not corrupt. It's more than what you think. Britain wouldn't allow the money out. It would be used for the betterment of the Britain. It is the corrupt African leaders you should blame. Smh steal all that money which they can't use whiles ordinary Nigerians suffer.

These banks know exactly where the money is coming from. The banks will grease who needs it and this will be covered up on their end. The lone patsy will be blamed and business will continue as usual.

This problem is due to the lack of consolidation by African states/countries (miniscule independent powers).. You have despots in power in several of these states who hold on to power, and only because they are supported by western powers; these western powers are so eager to turn a blind eye as far as those countries resources is giving away for almost free..
The solution is for all 53 african countries to come together and demand that any bank or nations where these banks are located in would be cut of from all Africa's trade, whether in energy, raw materials and even in diplomatic terms.. A continent of 2.8 trillion dollars in GDP, and bread basket in terms of all raw materials for industry or food, the sensitive/speculative stock markets of these developed but shaky western countries will feel the impact!!
These hypocritical banks such as bnp in france, switzerland, london, spain all help in concealing these stolen billions.. the loss in trade with these culprit nations can be made up with trading with CHINA, INDIA, Russia and Brazil the next emerging nations of the world forget these western devils..
p.S:least i forget, even the American politicians are now hiding their money in swizz account themselves

Northern Nigeria, is Muslim dominated and is experience immense problems on many different levels.
South Nigeria has always been historically far more progressive, then the North.

An African Muslim sounds as oxymoronic as a Japanese sumo ballerina. I thought Africans had there own cultures and traditions, millennia before the Europeans came in the 1480s’ and 800 years before the Arab Berber came to colonize them. I suppose centuries of colonization corrode the mind. Perplexing, very perplexing indeed.

Africa has been influenced by the Middle East (hence Islam), and the Western world (hence Christanity).

@ Avril Stacy.. Some countries do offer free education in the west but it seems to me you are not making good use of it. if you from the E.U i suggest you try out Sweden or Denmark. I also suggest you reduce the heavy night party drinking and one night stand and try making good use of what you have got, as good things don't last forever.... Knowledge and intelligence is not inherited but Ignorance is....
