    Clarification at 7:40. It says on the screen "Turn the key and click the lock button..." even though the voice over says correctly "the unlock button". Use unlock button only during the programming cycle as per the voiceover.

      hi there, i recently had my key fob crack on the outside because it fell on the cement, its for a 2006 MDX, for some reason it doesn't work anymore, popped the plastic off, everything looks fine inside. any suggestions before i have to spend $600 for a new fob.. :(

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  4 года назад

      Sure. There is no need to spend $600 for a new fob. A completely new OEM fob for your car costs $116. You can program it the same way as in the video. If you want to save a bit, you can purchase a third party fob from eBay. Just make sure you order the right one. Or, if you don’t want to spend money at all, just use the second keyfob. Good luck!

    Hello. I got my new key fob cut at a locksmith shop and programmed it myself on my 2011 Acura MDX. The key fob buttons work but when I use the key to turn the ignition on the vehicle turns off right away. At first I thought that there was something wrong with my vehicle but my car works fine with my old key fob. The vehicle immediately shuts off with the new key fob. The new key fob that I programmed only works for unlocking the vehicle. I still need the old key fob to be able to turn my vehicle on and drive it.

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  2 года назад

      Hello. You are completely correct: you can only reprogram the jeyfob yourself. There is an immobilizer chip in the key blade, so if you uave a new keyblade for some reason, you will need a HIM, MVCI or third party expensive bi-directional scanner to program the immobilizer chip in the new keyblade to your ECU for the car to recognize it.

    I’m dead set on a 2g MDX now after realizing severe limitations on the RDXs ability to make reasonable hp. From the research I’ve done so far I know I can supercharge the MDX and make 350 awhp with 4-8psi of boost. Anyhow, I’m super excited about watching your newly released content since I’ve combed through every minute of the previous content you’ve produced and I’d like you to know I throughly enjoy it sir! I was hoping you could cover mods other than J-pipe and things like whether an rl carbon fiber drive shaft would fit the MDX and etc. I’d love to see a dyno after J-pipe and Ktuner or hondata as well. How much hp can the stock motor and trans of the MDX handle? Hopefully you can help out as this information seems to be kept within inner circles online for some reason.

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  5 лет назад +3

      Thanks a lot for your feedback! Yes, from what I gather, 350 honest HP is possible with a supercharger, J-pipe and ECU reflash. I know a guy who is experimenting this in Russia. However I cannot even imagine the cost for implementing this here, in North America. Not sure if it’s worth it. Definitely not at this moment. Possibly in the future. Right now just restoring my MDX to the best condition I can. But who knows what future brings! ;)

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  4 года назад +1

      No problem! Your issue is likely a NON-OEM aftermarket keyfob. They are notorious for the tailgate button issues - in most of them it just doesn't work. Honestly, it's not worth the savings - the OEM keyfob costs anywhere between 10-20% more than an aftermarket one. I suggest buying an OEM keyfob and programming it. And you do not need to program buttons separately - after the process described in the video you should be all set.

    Three questions: I don't have the new key cut yet or linked with the immobilizer.
    1) Can I program it to open the car using an existing remote to switch the car into the on position?
    2) The key I got with the car is labeled driver 2, is there a way to make the new remote driver 1?
    3). Can locksmiths cut and link the key with the immobilizer or is that a dealer only operation?

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  3 года назад

      Hi Berk. This is keyfob programming only. To program the keyblade you will need a special bi-directional scanner. A locksmith should be able to cut and program the key. For Driver 1 / Driver 2 - not sure how this will work with two Driver 2 remotes - I haven't tried it. The hope is that they might still act as Driver 1 / Driver 2. You have to program both during the same procedure and see.

    Great video. I followed your direction and was able to programed the remote to lock / unlock the door and open / closed the trunk. However the new programs remote cut key won’t start the car because the immobilizer green key keep flashing on the gauge cluster. The original key fob work perfectly, it’s just the new programmed key fob that’s having the immobilizer issue.
    Follow up with my issue: So I switch the transmitter button section from the new programed key to the old key and it worked. So I’m thinking it’s something that has to do with the key part itself. Maybe it’s too new for the ignition and needs to wear down. The newly cut key does look thicker than the original used one.

    • @AcuraAddicted
      @AcuraAddicted  2 года назад

      Thanks! This is for the keyfob only. In order to program the immobilizer for the new keyblade you will need either HIM, MVCI or an expensive ($800+) bi-directional third party scanner tool with immobilizer chip programming capability. The immobilizer chip is located in the keyblade itself.

    You did not mention a year or generation of MDX but based on your part numbers listed it appears you were working on a 2007-09, the first half of the 2nd generation MDX.
    Only the aftermarket uses the terms "x button, y button" but to be clear, the aftermarket calls the basic version a 3 button key, not 2, because they count the panic button. Same goes for the key with power liftgate option - it is called 4 button. The part numbers you list are only applicable to 2007-09 MDX. 2010-13 MDX has all different part numbers than 07-09 for the equivalent 3 button, 4 button, driver 1, and driver 2 options. Also the transmitter-only part is not always available. It might be on backorder or be available on ebay but for example the 4 button 07-09 (driver 1 & 2) transmitters both currently show as discontinued. Even some of the full key assembly part numbers are backordered on occasion. Final note about this generation, the aftermarket has one 3 button part# and another 4 button part# to cover all years 07-13 but I don't know how they make that work* nor what the differences are between the two 2nd gen ranges of Acura part #s. *I know personally that the aftermarket 4 button key liftgate function doesn't work on 07-09 and from negative reviews it appears not to work on 10-13 either. From experience I believe the aftermarket remotes are set to driver 1 memory. Sometimes a seller can program a H/A transmitter to transmit as a driver 2 remote such that they can sell you the same part with either D1 or D2 functionality by request. I've not seen anyone offer this with the aftermarket MDX flip key though.
    Another thing, you said you ended up buying a complete key assembly from Acura. I realize you swapped the key blade over because it has the transponder chip in it, but it should be noted that programming a new key is not terribly difficult AND dealers will cut keys they sell by VIN on their automated machine for no additional cost. If you have access to any decent modern scanner (Autel's cheapest version will do this) you would have the ability to do the "replace all keys" procedure, then you could find a free online PCM code generator to calculate the 4 digit code the scanner asks for. There are also cheap key programmers that bypass this code step on H/A vehicles. H/A are one of the easiest transponder key brands to program, just fewer security hoops to jump through.
    TLDR: if you're going to get an OEM key anyway, consider *adding* it along with your existing key (even if physically broken it makes a great emergency spare) by taking advantage of the free dealer cut, then paying a little $ to have an auto locksmith program it or a little more $ and get a scanner/programmer which will also come in handy later (for diagnostics and other brands as well).
    Final key options note: You can just buy the case and key blade subassembly for ~$50. 07-09 part#s are 35119-STX-315 (has "Driver 1" stamped on back) and 35119-STX-316 (Driver 2 stamping). Physically they are both the same save for the lettering. If your transmitter still works this is a great option.
    You didn't show removal of the OEM key's blade pivot cover. The ones I've seen have double sided foam tape between that cover and the metal pivot housing. Also to be fair the ones I fix are already old and brittle. But that cover doesn't come off easily and it is a good chance you will crack the one hidden latch trying. It is not available separately, it comes with the key housing or the complete key assembly only. I'd be interested to hear if your new remote's cover came off easily, did it crack, did it have double sided foam tape holding it on, etc?

      @AcuraAddicted  3 года назад +1

      That is a lot of information, thank you for sharing!
      1) My MDX is 2008.
      2) No, the dealer in Canada will not cut the key free of charge when buying the new keyfob from them.
      3) Yes, I am also aware that the power liftgate button doesn't work in aftermarket fobs, that's another reason why I recommend the OEM one.
      4) No, my transmitter got mangled when I was putting it into the aftermarket case, so I needed the full assembly with the transmitter.
      5) I do not remember any double sided foam tape. It was a straightforward removal and installation back, no issues.
