We cant even fill our hearts with Christ...we wont even let Him in our minds...our works..our lives...yet , we long for the cathedral to be Christian again.... Devout Catholic here mind you... and yes , I agree that the Hagia should be a cathedral again..but, we better fill up our empty and cold parish churches again..we fill the churches in our parishes with prayers and our presence .... bestow it with reverence ... teach our kids the Catechism..... before we can even think of getting the Hagia back.... I lived in Thessaloniki.in.my time I Greece in.my travels. So close to Turkey I took a bus to Istanbul for a few days. I have studied art and I loved all that I saw in.Europe. Haifa Sophia was an incredible and Holy place. I met many Othhodox Christians when I was in Greece, all praying and hoping that one day God.would return this beautiful Cathedral to its.rightful.people, thevOrthodthevOrthodox Christians. My personal belief.that in these trying times of.humanity it fell into the hands if Satan. In the end God will triumph. When I was there in.1980s it upset me to see Arabic symbols amongst all the beautiful old Byzantine art. I believe, somehow, they are covering all those beautiful old Christian works of art. Let us,.all Christians, join our Orthodox brothers and sisters.that this great monument will.return to them, the rightful owners.
While wandering around Hagia Sophia a few years ago, and I found some mosaic crosses which they were restoring on the roof of a side chapel, It was a surprise because I thought uncovering a cross would be discouraged in Turkey. Something very unusual happened to me, for some reason the line from a song I had long forgotten came in to my head "all Gods people singing Glory, Glory Alleluia, he reigns" and I said aloud, to no one in particular, we will get this back for your glory Lord. Nothing like this had ever happened to me before but it came back to me when I heard the sad news about this beautiful Cathedral, returning to the status of a Mosque in the eyes of the Turkish nation. The prayers of Christians permeate this place and we know who will reign in the end. AMDG

That was an EXCELLENT homily Father. Thank you. The Hagia Sophia was lost because of the sin and stupidity of our ancestors and it is still lost because of our apostate belief in the West in most of our hearts that all religions are basically the same and that we should all just go along to get along. I watched as they handed Erdogan the microphone and he recited the Fatiha of the Quran in perfect Arabic (which must be an acquired language for him since he is a Turk) and thought of the days where Charlemagne used to recite the Divine Office in Latin as head of his kingdom and a loyal son of the Church who wanted to bring his people to God. Islam is wrong. Its false beliefs about the Incarnation and the Trinity started their life as Christian heresies in the Roman Empire and got translated into Arabic and mixed with Jewish religious and pagan Arab tribal practices by Muhammed to make up what is now called Islam. But false though it is they believe in it. At least the Muslims believe in something whereas we, who have been given the Truth, believe in nothing. They claim to worship god, but that is what all non Catholics claim any way. What they miss is that they are being deceived by the spirits from Hell masquerading as gods, which by default present in all souls before the baptism (even if they are not worshipping idols explicitly). Through baptism, (after getting the one and only one Holy Spirit from heaven) can anyone even believe in their heart that Jesus Christ is the only God and the only way to enter into an eternal life in Heaven.

Scripture teaches that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and is sent by the Son. And we probably need new Patriarchates in Western Europe and the USA, not least, to unify the large number of expat Orthodox.

So, Notre Dame de Paris gets burned in 2019, and Hagia Sophia falls back into the hands of Muslims in 2020. A quite vague call to action. What is the proposition? Eastern Orthodoxy returns to union with the Latin West and suddenly Hagia Sofia will be a Christian church again? Makes no sense, unless the homilist is preaching a Holy War to follow. It was not lack of reverence or faith that caused the fall of Constaninople, as he points out that all the Christian people gathered to pray and attend the Divine Liturgy. So what would be different today? It's very easy for the homilist to preach against the "liberal" West and the tragedy of the Schism, all from the relative safety of whatever pulpit he is in, but I doubt he's actually willing to do much else about this. If he decides to travel to Istanbul and make a stand, that would be truly remarkable.
Yes indeed. Their unwillingness to enter in heaven through a narrow path is the prime reason, as evidenced from their lack of courage (and faith) to abandon some temporal pleasures while even pretending to be devotedly serving the Lord as a priest, (but giving their heart mostly for their own personal family).

Haifa Sophia is a masterpiece of early Byzantine Christian art, it was.and is Christian, and always will be.
I lived in Thessaloniki.in.my time I Greece in.my travels. So close to Turkey I took a bus to Istanbul for a few days. I have studied art and I loved all that I saw in.Europe. Haifa Sophia was an incredible and Holy place. I met many Othhodox Christians when I was in Greece, all praying and hoping that one day God.would return this beautiful Cathedral to its.rightful.people, thevOrthodthevOrthodox Christians. My personal belief.that in these trying times of.humanity it fell into the hands if Satan. In the end God will triumph. When I was there in.1980s it upset me to see Arabic symbols amongst all the beautiful old Byzantine art. I believe, somehow, they are covering all those beautiful old Christian works of art. Let us,.all Christians, join our Orthodox brothers and sisters.that this great monument will.return to them, the rightful owners.

While wandering around Hagia Sophia a few years ago, and I found some mosaic crosses which they were restoring on the roof of a side chapel, It was a surprise because I thought uncovering a cross would be discouraged in Turkey. Something very unusual happened to me, for some reason the line from a song I had long forgotten came in to my head "all Gods people singing Glory, Glory Alleluia, he reigns" and I said aloud, to no one in particular, we will get this back for your glory Lord. Nothing like this had ever happened to me before but it came back to me when I heard the sad news about this beautiful Cathedral, returning to the status of a Mosque in the eyes of the Turkish nation. The prayers of Christians permeate this place and we know who will reign in the end. AMDG

Such a beautiful cathedral! Sadly, there are many equally beautiful cathedrals in the West that if tourists didn't visit them, they'd never see a soul. The apostasy is profound. Scripture teaches that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and is sent by the Son. And we probably need new Patriarchates in Western Europe and the USA, not least, to unify the large number of expat Orthodox.

Do small acts of personal sacrifice (like prayerfully giving up certain things which make us comfortable), and offering up our acts of fasting and self-mortification to GOD, for the conversion of sinners.

A quite vague call to action. What is the proposition? Eastern Orthodoxy returns to union with the Latin West and suddenly Hagia Sofia will be a Christian church again? Makes no sense, unless the homilist is preaching a Holy War to follow. It was not lack of reverence or faith that caused the fall of Constaninople, as he points out that all the Christian people gathered to pray and attend the Divine Liturgy. So what would be different today? It's very easy for the homilist to preach against the "liberal" West and the tragedy of the Schism, all from the relative safety of whatever pulpit he is in, but I doubt he's actually willing to do much else about this. If he decides to travel to Istanbul and make a stand, that would be truly remarkable.
