Pretty sure clamping refers to the max range of input that is registered. For example, my PS4 controller required me to really squeeze the throttle trigger in order to give the car a 100% throttle. It was very tiring and getting on my nerves so I messed around with the settings and found that lowering throttle clamping to around 70-80%, I no longer had to squeeze the throttle to get 100% acceleration out of the car, only needed to press it down normally. After some testing, I basically concluded that clamping refers to the range of input or rather the steps of input that the game registers. So 0% clamping will make it so that you have an on-off single step button while max clamping will give you access to the entire range of analog input. I hope I've been able to explain this alright.
Johnson Racing I see how it may sound like that and to an extent, they are similar but it's not quite the same. Deadzones will only nullify input until a certain point is reached so as to counteract involuntary input from defective or damaged controllers, like you pretty much explained. Clamping is more about how many steps of analog input register into the game. So if you have 0% throttle clamping, you have no steps of input between 0 and 100, meaning any slight input on the trigger will give you 100% throttle all the time. Kind of like a keyboard key, as it will have no smoothness at all. If you have 100% clamping, you have all the steps your analog input device can offer between 0 and 100, meaning you can hold the trigger down 25% of the way and it will register as 25% throttle, 75% pressure will likewise provide 75% throttle and so on. You can be as smooth as you want with the throttle with full clamping and so 100% is usually always the best setting. The only exception would be a case like mine where my controller's 100% trigger limit was only reachable by uncomfortably squeezing the trigger. So I slightly reduced the throttle clamping so that I would have a few lesser steps between 0 and 100 and I could comfortably press the trigger 90% of the way to get a 100% throttle input. ...What kinda language is that? Man, I should never become a teacher.
Yeah i even took apart my ps4 controller beacuse i thought the r2 button was worn out, found out on my own and now i barely have to press the r2 trigger :)
AlwaysBeGaming Sorry dude, I play on PC. Strike Glad you figured it out. I didn't have the heart to try and dismantle anything lol Lil andyman This might be a little hard to explain in words but basically, it refers to the curve of your throttle line. It's easy to confuse this with clamping but it's not exactly the same. When your throttle linearity is full, your acceleration input will be exactly the same as the amount of input you provide on your trigger/accelerator. So the rate of going from 0-100% throttle will be equal to or linear to how you press your trigger from 0-100%. Whereas, if your throttle linearity is low, your input will have a curve. As a result, your initial inputs will have only minor effects on your actual input and your inputs towards the higher end of the throttle will be multiplied. So when you press your trigger from 0-50%, you'll see that the rate of the actual input will be slower and will only reach about 25-30% throttle. But when you press it further from 50-100%, you'll see that the rate of throttle input becomes exponentially faster to the point that it reaches 100% throttle at the same time as you reach 100% depression on the trigger. The purpose of lowering linearity is to have a smoother input than you're actually providing, which can reduce the chances of wheelspin and oversteer due to rapid throttle when your assists are off. However, if you want exact and precise inputs, linearity should be left at the max. Edit: Here are some *very professional* visual representation graphs of 0-100-0% throttle:- Linearity full -〈 Linearity low - ( I rest my case.
Love this game, but the fine tune settings are overcomplicated for no reason. And it bothers the hell outta me that theres no info on what it does in the game. There should be a description

Calmping: Relates to the minimum input required to generate the maximum response. For example, you could set that pressing the trigger down half way will be the maximum throttle value
They should've called it "max input range" they confused everyone by calling it "clamping". It's not the same as linearity but decreasing it too much gives similar results to playing on keyboard. Basically it's reversed deadzone. It sets a point after which you get 100% input response. Deadzone sets a point before which input = 0%.
Steering clamping makes it as if you have a vice grip on the wheel, making you initially able to change direction faster. Throttle clamping has no noticeable effect on when you initially press it, but rather when you let go of it. It will let off the throttle slightly slower than you actually do on the controller if you have it set to 0, but again not very noticeable at all as you said. Same with braking clamping. Final verdict... Max clamping everything. :)
this immensely helped me alot i was wondering why the handbrake required me to hold it for 5 seconds before i can actually get some turning action out of it and how i could barely turn.
Clamping in this game is if you held the joystick to the right for about .5 secs the wheels on the car will turn slower then gradually as u hold it down for longer it will start to turn quicker I keep this setting low because it is very annoying.
All Deadzones Have to be 0, It makes everything heavier if above 50%, Linearity 0 If You Want that Vin Diesel Fast n furious handling where he takes quick corners almost impossible 100 linearity will lag your turning and give your car more time to turn like a double wishbone suspension stiff, clamping is how hard you try at something 0 will require less trying, 100 will require more pressing
Thanks J R. This helped out alot. I haven't had to make any tweaks at all. But I also have FPS X and Y sensitivity.(ps4) So I will have tobolau with that.
People have this mixed up. Further to the left is actually a more linear response, further to the right applied a gamma curve to it. Therefore left actually increase the sensitivity but also the potential for oversteer. Right produce understeer.
