It’s insane what a year makes between 1985 Del Mar competition and the 1986 competition . The tricks got so much more technical , airs got bigger with everyone stylizing their own variations . Love it!
Big time. Great to hear The Culr being played at skate contests on west coast at same time we were listening to a lot of the same music in the South Eastern USA Georgia & Florida!
nice to see some of these old school tricks executed so perfectly. Especially since im from the east coast where we didn't have pools and barely had any half pipes. Only time i really got to see pool skating was in the movie Thrashin' which took place at this park.
A few years back some of the old locals spotted a construction crew digging up the earth where the park sat . Part of the park was still in tact. The guy who spotted got ahold of some of the old locals ( including Tony Hawk ) and they skated what was left. The video is on here. I grew up across the street from this place. Sad day when they tore it down .
I wish I knew... It's also in Gullwing's "Molecules of Motion" from 1987. I went back to check the credits however, there are no music credits for some odd reason. There are couple really good songs in the video too. I tried :-)
I'd like to say that watching the video is like being there but it's not. It does make me nostalgic for my days of skating at the Endless Wave in Oxnard back in the 80s before they bulldozed it... Damn you Oxnard!!
The first thing you see in here is red yellow and green and then chanting rastafari? This is why I love skateboarding culture that is how I found my roots in Rastafari specifically element made a t-shirt that said listen to Bob Marley this video is like many other videos I watch random videos that have something to do with Rastafari when there is nothing about the videos that would tell you Rastafari has mentioned or has to do with it this is the synchronicity in my life that takes place on a daily basis
These guys are all quite good. Still there's one point I'd like to make. I've never liked that wide stance Cab style. Not to say that Cab sucks of course not, it's just that wide stance style just bugs me a little. I know it's about balance & it does make practical sense, it just looks odd to me.
What gets me is Chris Miller is wearing the Jordons when you used to be able to get them for $20 at Big 5 now they go for what? $200? WTF?? Back then, they were just a decent cheap shoe to skate in, now? A fashion statement. 🙄
You know what blew my fucking mind how those same ones in 85 are worth more than 70k now it's fucking crazy how expensive plastic and rubber can go these days

I was here.. brings tears to my eyes watching it ....
You lived it. Be proud
THANK YOU for posting all of these wonderful videos, very heart warming and fun to watch a sport at it's peak !
BIG Thanks for posting these skate vids. It's amazing to watch. I only saw pics of these comps in Thrasher mag back in the day.
You betcha! :-) It's awesome to hear that and it's one of the reasons I put them up. Have a great one!

An alley-oop fast plant to body jar.. WHAT??? That was the first one I've seen .... SICK !!!
Correct
When I was young I used to take the train down to DEl Mar/Solana Beach. I remember seeing pros there rail sliding around 1/2 of the bowl. Great stuff
R.I.P. Grosso

Only the Cult album the whole contest?
I wonder how deep that pool was? maybe 9 feet??
what trick is that called at 8.08?

Chris miller skating in some clean ass original air jordan 1s this shit is historic af
I was always down with Lance Mountain. Like if someone from Monty Python was a pro skater.

My name's Shawn and I'm from Newport Beach, and I' trapped behind a chain link fence!
4:00 the goat
Ken Park had the best hand plants. Fully tweaked with the stall. That's how they should be.
I was always a fan of Kendall, Monty and Caballero (my fav will always = Jason Farrell) when inverts are the topic :-)
Randyh9 Grosso was prob my fav on inverts
My favorite invert stall ever... Billy Ruff, at the second Del Mar contest in 1985 (25 seconds into his run) ruclips.net/video/Btv8XjkEDBg/видео.html
Overall, I agree. But Lucero's plant at 2:25, that was pretty great.
Miller, best fast plants in the business
When Kevin Staab pushed mongo at 8:29
lol, never noticed that :-)
All sorts of skaters did, pushed both ways, like Duane Peters. He wasn't a fucking dork like yourself.
Most of these guys never pushed at all.
Noone gave a fxck back then. Whatever worked. As long as your street, flatland, pool, bowl, ramp style was innovative, fluid &/or aggressive.
Damn forgot how good kasai was👍
1:26 nuff said
@ipwinyou amen brother!
Grosso was flying
whatever happened to spidey...
Anyone else forgot how good Ken Park was at inverts? I’m back in the room Ken.
Hell to the Yeah !!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like they just got The Cult - Love album
ROCK oNN great

Shawn from Newport Beach is a little too chatty for my taste.
But he want's to say hi to Heidi :-)
sounded like the cult playing during jim grays run
