Red-billed Leiothrix (Leiothrix lutea) 4K

This beautiful multicolored bird with a wonderful song was introduced to all the Hawaiian Islands from Asia early in the 20th century. In China it is known as the Peking Nightingale. In Japan it's called the Japanese Hill Robin. It has become established all islands except Lāna`i and Kaua`i. The species was present on Kaua`i until the 1960s. For unknown reasons that population no longer exists. The bird travels in small family groups that are more easily heard than seen.
