When I drove through Capital Reef Nat. Park in September 1995, as I left the east side, the landscape changed from lush green grass, trees, and the red rock, to a baron gray landscape, which got me to think about the moon landing in 1969. I thought "aha" they filmed it here! Then I followed my brother on up Hwy 24 a few miles before reaching I 70 to a place we set up camp under Temple Mt. to ride dirt bikes in the San Raphael range.
Russ I've recently discovered your channel, and want you to know how much your beautiful videos and calming voice have helped me during these stressful times. I'm an RN and my work responsibilities have been affecting me greatly, both mentally and physically, to the point where I was even having difficulty sleeping. But my husband and I watch your videos every night, and I'm able to sleep now thanks in no small part to your videos. So thank you, and stay safe out there.
Russ - My hubby just retired from military after 23 years. Now we have time to travel and bought a TT. These videos are so amazing. This helps us decided where we should go. I love watching the videos and seeing the stops. Thank you!!!
jim: when in Colorado suggest you go south on US 50 at Grand Junction to Delta, then south on US 550 to Montrose, Ridgway, Quray, Silverton and then Durango.
Capital Reef National Park was established in 1971 to preserve 241,904 acres of desert landscape. Great to see the sun after 3 days of clouds. Nice fresh morning. Thanks Russ great video.Never seen you hike as much as on this Vacation. Hah. I knew you had it in you. Always enjoy.
I camped in my tent at the campground adjacent to the visitor centre here September 1997. Did several hikes, the most memorable being the Navajo Knobs trail, four and a half miles each way ! Also visited the old schoolhouse and picked apples in the orchards in Fruita. This was settled many years ago by Mormons. An oldtimer Englishman from Shropshire reliving some past adventures. Utah is my favourite State, so much to offer free spirits. This was Fremont first nation country.
I can’t even watch the news right now. Your videos take me back to the 80’s when I traveled all across this amazing country in a camper with my father and our dog Fred, both of whom are no longer with us. Thank you for your videos which bring a smile to my face and remind me of a simpler time.
We Love RVerTV , Grand Videos , Grand Music , Grand Road Trips. Great Video / Great Views. Thank you Russ for the RVerTV 2020 Virtual Vacation. Utah is Awesome . God Bless the United States of America , Russ, RVerTV Fans. Happy Trails Russ , RVerTV Fans. Russ- Too Cool 4 School.
You read my mind! A few days ago I thought 'I'll have to ask Russ if he's been to Capitol Reef' and hey presto, you're there! The Torrey lizards and humming birds blew our minds even before we visited Capitol Reef itself
If you have time it's worth returning to drive past the Capitol Reef Visitor Center then along the scenic route that takes you to the Capitol Reef rocks themselves. I think it's OK for your van and narrow RVs but you'd have to check. The gorges are gorgeous that you drive through - a bit narrow and many wild goats to see
Another beautiful video and reminder of a trip years ago with my Dad. We travelled cheap and light and took in the scenery. I am fascinated by the geology of rocky areas and mountains . The video is beautiful and entertaining. Thanks. I'm glad you bought a Mercedes Van and a drone.
WOW. WOW. WOW. The drive was incredible. The writings were amazing to see and the scenery is epic. Thanks for taking me along on this trip. I really appreciate the ride. I am from Colorado Springs Co and if you get down here, it would be great to meet for lunch. If you do that kind of stuff. Thanks for the ride. Stay safe and happy adventuring.
We love watching especially because you are alone so we feel like we are traveling with you and you have a wonderfully peaceful voice. We know the work that is involved putting a video on line so a big thank from David and Kathleen.
Great views, unbelievable rock colors and formations, thanks for stopping and doing short hikes really enjoyed the video, glad you take the time to stop and enjoy some of the scenery, stay safe.
Wow! Russ, you should not have turned around at the visitor's center. The scenic drive straight ahead is the best of the Park. Something to come back and camp in the campground with a view.
Those orchards are about 150 years old.(early pioneer days) Loved the early morning sun and shadow photography! So, you being a Colorado River guy, are we heading up to the headwaters of the Colorado?
If you want to go to Rocky mountain national park you will need to make a reservation. $2 reservation gives you a 2 hour window to enter the park. Weekends are tougher to book. The drive over trail ridge road would get you lots of views! Enjoy Colorado!
That one formation that looked like a layer cake on the side of the two lane you were on 13:23 looks familiar. I'm thinking that might have been a scene in Easy Rider where Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper were riding their choppers past.
Visited there just a few years ago. Wonderful bunch of history. It was drizzly Fall. Apples everywhere. Bakery had everything apple you could want. Rode way back in. Just overwhelming rock displays. Thanks for more good memories.
Wow just gorgeous. Another wonderful stop on this journey. Thank you Russ for allowing me to participate in the virtual 2020 vacation. Simply beautiful. Stay safe. Wishing you a super week. Hugs Susan
Thanks Russ for helping me reminisce about the times I've spent in Capital Reef. Hope you get to return there and take in more of the sites. Took me (3) trips to get my fill of it. That drive thru Escalante is hard to top though. You can spend a couple of full days alone just in and around Escalante. Safe travels friend.
🙋♀️Hello Russ! I'm glad you pointed out the petroglyph, I could see those little people figures. That walk to the natural bridge would have been hot. That sign for falling rocks was backward. You need warned going in. Be careful. Thankfully you are wise to the crumbling areas to understand nature. Just beautiful! I'm fascinated with this scenery. Through your eyes, I get to enjoy this! 👍
Hello Russ , We throughly enjoyed the pettroglift very interesting. I myself am into things like that,...historical of the times. Yeah you will need your hiking boots for sure haha. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.Stay safe. Larry & Linda
Good evening Russ, Wow what a beautiful place so much to see. When you get to Grand Junction Colorado try and find some fresh fruit stands if they are open this time of year. Getcha some sweet treats to munch on going down the road. Are you going to go up into the Grand Mesa area? I've never been there but was told there are some nice lakes and a lot of boondocking camping areas. See You Soon!
Suggestion. If ever in Capital Reef again, jump on Caineville Wash Road, off Hwy 24 just before entering the park if coming from Hanksville. Decent gravel road and it heads up to Hartnet road to allow you to circle back to Hwy 24 further west. I always did it in a Hummer, but know many who have done it in PU trucks and even a Subaru. Nothing tricky, but believe me, it will floor you with the beauty. And there is always the Pyramids to the Moon and Sun. I might have to subscribe to keep my memories of UT alive. Other than looking at a million photos taken with my Nikons.
Loved today's drive. It looked like you may have walked a little faster under those overhanging rock. 😁 I think I would have. Don't want the 2020 visual vacation tour to end prematurely. Thanks for the ride. 👍🙏. Be safe.
Hey Russ!...Just thought you might want to know, It's still 92 deg. here in the mountains of Prescott and talk of 96 deg. on Friday...whew! That means it's near 400 deg. in Quartzsite!.....You picked a good time to beat the heat, were just going to stay inside with the A/C on and enjoy your videos........
I went to this park many years ago and I remember Fruita, which I believe was one of, if not the first Mormon settlement. I would have done that 2.25 mile hike. It looked very nice. I was with my friend Harry, who was driving, and I remember we went down a canyon road that just kept getting more narrow until it turned into a dirt road, if I remember correctly. We wanted to see how far you could go. Nice park and thanks for reminding me what it looks like!

jim: when in Colorado suggest you go south on US 50 at Grand Junction to Delta, then south on US 550 to Montrose, Ridgway, Quray, Silverton and then Durango.
I really enjoyed my time at Capitol Reef --had the place to myself (got up at sunrise and biked it).....spectacular sights.
Russ, you outdid yourself taking us on that little hike; a very pretty area!! thanks.

Capital Reef is a huge geological feature best seen from high up in a aircraft.
You are so lucky to travel like that
Russ, hope you are not getting worn out. Loving the vacation.
Hi Russ... Still viewing your trip.. Beautiful drive ... Stay happy and safe..

At 27 min 25 sec you were looking at Capitol Dome and you missed the sign. Nice morning for a hike and clear skies.
Driving through beautiful wilderness. Nice way to spend the day, Russ. Thanks!
I thought you would jog all of those hiking trails at those altitudes 🤣🤣very nice Mr russ👍🌴🇺🇸
I like Capital Reef.... I was at those petroglyphs about a year ago..
We were there 2 years ago. We didn't know they were there until we happened upon them. Great find!!

I think it is the most underrated park in Utah.
Wow! Russ, you should not have turned around at the visitor's center. The scenic drive straight ahead is the best of the Park. Something to come back and camp in the campground with a view.
Thanks Russ. You were right. Utah did not disappoint...

I'm with you on hiking Russ but today you were a hiking crazy man. Keep up the quick drone shots those are awesome. Great road trip again.
I70 through Colorado, especially past Grand Junction and though Glenwood Canyon, is a spectacular drive.
That one formation that looked like a layer cake on the side of the two lane you were on 13:23 looks familiar. I'm thinking that might have been a scene in Easy Rider where Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper were riding their choppers past.

Best YT so far this season. Actually prettier than Bryce. Thanks for bringing us along with you👋👍
Roughing it without your mountain climbing boots!!! It's a canyon not a valley - Where the River cut out the rock!!! Rock same on both sides!!!
Very pretty area!
