5:00 I feel that secret of the mimic will probably solve that issue of reading books as being sorta compulsory for the games

omg I was waiting for this video! I feel like we need to freshen up the discourse about mascot horror in general, so I'm really glad you've made this vid! I'll comment my thoughts later but just saying now that it's great that you're talking Abt it!

This is a very good topic to discuss, tho I dunno if I can contribute much to the discussion myself 🤔
I can't ever play the games bc i'm a big chicken but I want to support the people behind the games and show off my love for it, which merch happily assists me with. The newer games have made me want to read *all* the fnaf books, while before I felt no need to but that was also sorts tied to how the community negatively treated the books. I haven't felt pressured to buy any merch either.
I have a Golden Freddy plush specifically because of matpat's "psychic friend fredbear" musical bit. I have a foxy plush because of how gosh darn cute he looks inside the closet in fnaf 4 w/ his cute lil peets and fangs, that's also my fav fnaf game in terms of the gameplay evolution btw. I also have a helpy plush I got this year bc just about everything helpy related is hilarious.
I think in regards to merch, fnaf is helped in that Scott focused on the games themselves and ppl basically bugged him for merch. Whereas the others were crafted with merch in mind. I still enjoy their stories tho. I consider Amanda the Adventurer to be more like fnaf in this regard.

Very good video that points out many things in my mind as I am working on my mascot horror game the Silent Mansion. I keep getting worried if I reveal the story plots in bad ways and now they are forever ruined. Trying to be good in every aspect, music, art style, character design, story, and many other things and it can be hard sometimes working on all those things when you are solo. And while I am driven by passion I also hope to make money from it some day as I need money to be alive.
Anyways, amazing "not podcast yet" breakdown.

I'm 50/50 when it comes to the fnaf books, especially the tales whether or not if they're the right direction for the storytelling of FNAF, that you need to consume another media just to understand another. While it does seem simple on paper, you just need to read a couple of books, it more or less feels like a chore or homework then an actual engaging time. While you can watch a simple recap of the books, you then risk being told misinformation, and risk missing out on something very important that a recap didn't include. It's also strange that alot is the very important plot lines are seem to be relevant to the newer games are only explained or given to us through the books, GGY, Mimic, Storyteller ect. Like you wouldn't make a spider man movie, for the movie to be only about Peter Parker's highschool drama and the actual Spider Man stuff locked away in a colouring book. However at the same time, especially with the Mimic introduction in the games, I feel like we should cut them some slack. It's clear Security Beach's development was messy, Scott didn't tell Steelwool the story, causing the writing of Security Beach's to feel incomplete. And Steelwool in my opinion made the game way to big for their own good, to the point they had to delay and delay, and even then the game came out half-baked. Along with the fact the tales were apparently written in 2019, and Security Beach was meant to originally come out in 2020 the same year the tales were probably also meant to release had not Security Beach been delayed, it was probably all meant to be alot more of a smoother transition. Scott said in the interview with Dawko this year when talking about the development of Security Beach that quote "When people find this, they will connect this, to this, to this and it will all be revealed". If course that didn't work out, however what I think Scott was talking about was the Tales from the Pizza Plex books and connecting them to the games. It would had played out like this, Security Beach comes out in 2020, somethings are placed in the game, the Tales from the Pizza Plex books come soon later, people will read them, see the connections to the things placed in Security Beach, then connect it all and then "Ruin" or just a sequel to Security Beach in general (as it looks like the idea of going back to a abandoned and destroyed Pizzaplex was planned early on) would had revealed something that further and rounds every connection all the way back. Now what would that thing be? and what would those other things that were planned to be place in Security Beach were? I have no idea but using some speculation it probably would had been something to do with the Mimic. I won't be surprised if originally Scott planned to add alot more hints to the Mimic, then in a sequel it all would had been fully revealed. But we all know that wasn't the case, Security Beach got delayed because it kept getting bigger and bigger, Scott didn't tell Steelwool the full story, the books came out 7 months after the games released, causing the big Mimic reveal to feel more confusing to most. Point is the messy development was really the cause of the books having to be required to know most of the newer lore, however I think Secret of the Mimic will be the fix of this big mess and will most likely be the game that fully explains the Mimic's backgrounds.

When it comes making fan stuff and copy cat stuff, I think it can be a really good thing when you are starting out making games. Say you really like fnaf and you wanna try out making a game, it's going to be easier starting out with a fan game rather than your own creation. It being a fanwork will keep you motivated and it will also allow you to compare the game to the original. If you are new to game making having an already polished comparison can help you improve your own work. The fan works definitely have their place but if you wanna pursue your own games you gotta branch out

I think one issue you briefly touched on has been bouncing around in my head for a while. That being the notion of desensitization to horror going along with it's commercialization. It's the most prevalent in mascot horror, simply because of how popular it got. Before Freddy Fazbear there was Freddy Krueger, before Poppy there was Chuckie, so on and so forth. I think some of that is due to a separation of witness and art. Young kids don't "play" FNaF, they watch youtubers play it. That degree of separation helps play into the desensitization, they laugh with the gamer, and don't really engage with the game. Games, in turn, file off their edges to make them RUclips friendly, all for the sake of mass appeal instead of a niche trend, leading back to your original thought process of story, or horror, suffering at the cost of profit.
    Edited for grammar and clarity.

Hey Nervous, I gotta say I enjoyed your interludes more than the story you told.
As far as FNAF AR, go watch MatPat Game Theory videos on what happened there. From what I remember, though, there were a lot of problems with the company themselves and people complained about the microtransactions so I think the emails were scrapped. Not to mention they didn't align all that well with the way Steel Wool was directing Security Breach.
As far as Marvel Movies, I'm there with you. I kinda got bored with them after the First Avengers movie. And I hated Captain America Civil War. Just because of the name and concept Civil War.
Poppy Playtime is a cash grab whereas FNAF is not. Scott only wanted to make a fun game that people enjoyed and it has become so much more.
Nervous, RUclips can be a real b!tch to me. I want to watch Power Rangers fan videos and talk with fans of DC Comics and I get recommended FNAF and Political Channels. I will watch them but I want to diversify. I would love more History recommendations too.
And as I said before, I'm Autistic so I know about nervous ramblings. One day I will start talking about my massive DC head Canon. Maybe get someone to show me how to edit shorts. But hey, we can't all be smart, right?

I have a lot of FNaF merch but I also like to take FNaF seriously. I only collect the FNaF merch from 1-6 and depends on what the merch is. I mainly collect FNaF Funko figures but they stopped making them but I do love the Fredbear sashee plushies and specific Funko plushies if they are good like Movie Mr. Cupcake. Also specific YouTooz figures like the Chipper and sons figures I bought and soon I’m gonna buy the Afton springtrapped figure here soon. Also the funko statues are fantastic. I’m very specific when it comes to merch and I only get the stuff that looks good/ can be taken seriously. Also I don’t collect any merch that’s deemed too childish like those Fnaf slimes and snap figures.

    • @ShesNervous
      @ShesNervous  3 дня назад +2

tbh when editing i realized i must have said half of what i meant in my head bc what i thought i said was i cared more about the animatronics than the protagonists
then i took it back and said i did care about cassie and the other protags - but out loud i just said oswald and started talking about ITP
so no I didn't mean Cassie but I did MEAN to mention her and didn't for some reason
I would've made it another editing insert but quite honestly I ran out of time to keep editing 😂

Garten of banban is the biggest example of a sell out cashgrab game where it even effects gameplay. A lot of these talking points do come from the banban video from backseat but imma say it anyway. First off, the games, especially the later ones are waaaaayyy too expensive. Other games in the industry that are 10 dollars offer more than the banban games ever did. For 10 dollars I would expect everyone's microphone actually sounded good. Like they can definitely charge money for their game, that's okay, but it needs to be lower. New characters that are not needed whatsoever are constantly being added and it just seems like an obvious merch thing. And the gameplay ugh. I have only ever watched let's plays of it that are edited so you don't really get how god awful the pacing is and it's very obvious that it's so you can't refund the game when you're done. It's bloated and it sucks to watch and play. And the story, well, I think it sucks and I disengaged pretty quickly because it went away from what I thought it was going to be. If someone likes it to each there own. Why would I even try to understand the story when there isn't a single character worth latching onto. From the very beginning banban seemed very money hungry (even with the first one being free) and it has just gotten worse and worse
Side note poppy playtime kinda lost me after 2. I thought 2 was really cool and I think the multi player came out and it weirdly got me univested. The marketing for chapter 3 almost hooked me again but then I completely missed the game dropping. Like idk, I usually learn about these things through RUclips but I wasn't recommended a single thing. I only learned about it being out after checking spiff's backlog of videos lol
