Minnesota is definitely tougher. Sure it snows a little more in the East Coast but they don’t get that bad of temperatures while we in MN usually get at least a few days of -20 degrees every winter, and we even got -30 degrees this winter. The snow also melts in the East Coast pretty fast, but in MN once it snows in like December it’s most likely not going to melt until March or April.

Hands down Minnesota winters are FAR worse. Boston does get the heavier snow storms, but it melts pretty quickly afterwards. In Minnesota, the snow doesn’t melt until like early March at the earliest. Not to mention Minnesota is WAY colder, in Minnesota you’re guaranteed at least one day a winter with temperatures below -10. In Boston, you get a day below 0 once every other year on average.
As someone who's lived in both Pennsylvania and Minnesota (I live in Minnesota right now) I can easily say that Minnesota has the harsher winters. Snow fall might be worse in the East Coast, but the cold. They don't even compare. We got down to near -60 Degrees Fahrenheit last winter.

Minnesota is definitely tougher winter , it last longer and its actually colder , I've seen heavier snowfall on the east coast but not by much I've seen a ton of snow prolly up to 3 feet in minnesota but that's usually accumulation I've maybe seen 20-25 inches of snow at one time in mn and 84 inches at one time on the east coast lake effect snow tho most city's don't receive that
I think a more fair comparsion would be interior New hampshire and Vermont. We are not regulated as much by the ocean and can see temps below zero more so than Boston.
