@@theloudguysmovies So this whole movie is set in the southern part of America. Specifically Georgia in the 1930s so their accent, is southern. Accept for Del who is cajun creole, which is a different southern dilectc in the state Louisiana. Creole combines English, French, African, and Native American language into one. If you notice Paul makes the comment "your English gets better when you want something" as a lot of people in small towns across Louisiana speak only creole. Love your channel ❤

    • @jimballard1186
      @jimballard1186 Год назад

They're not contaminants; they're demons. In Christian mythology, disease, injury, and death are caused by demons that God allows to afflict humanity as punishment for Adam and Eve's sins. John Coffey is Jesus Christ, whose mind has been destroyed by the weight of his sacrifice accepting punishment for all of mankind's sins but who still has the power to lay hands on the injured and remove their suffering by exorcising the demons afflicting them. The demons appear as insects because in Christian mythology, they are under the command of the demon prince Beelzebub, whose title is 'Lord of the Flies.'
The story is basically about Stephen King's experience with Evangelical Christianity as a child. It's much more explicit in the book than the movie.

You guys are so sweet. This movie takes place in 1932 or 1933. At that time, very few houses in the country had indoor bathrooms. People went to the toilet in an outhouse, usually at the back of the property. The only running water was in the kitchen. Bedrooms would have had a wash table with a pitcher of water and a basin for washing hands and face, and there would have been a chamber pot for relieving oneself at night. I live in a house that was built in 1920, or possibly earlier, in a small town in the country. This house did not have an indoor bathroom installed until around 1960.
In the early 1930s, there was no treatment for urinary tract infections because there were no antibiotics yet, so going to a different doctor wouldn't have helped. I don't know much about sulfa drugs, but if Tom Hanks' character was allergic to them, he couldn't take them.

Both Green Mile and "The Shawshank Redemption" are Stephen King stories directed by Frank Darabont and about prison, so definitely do Shawshank next. But don't research it!! There may be spoilers that will ruin surprises in the movie. The Shawshank Redemption is considered by most to be even better than Green Mile. You'll both enjoy Shawshank a lot too!
6:59 The name of that move is "Top Hat" (1936) and is one of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers many musical comedies.
37:08 The "Cassie... lady in the rocking chair" John was referring to is the constellation Cassiopeia, located not too far from the North Star.
And when you're in for another scifi do "The Martian" (2015) someday, an excellent movie! 🖖😎

I recommend seeing him in "Matchstick Men," "Moon," "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," and "GalaxyQuest" (the latter title after watching some original, classic "Star Trek" movies because it pays homage to that franchise and you will then understand the jokes).

while I believe this is true, we can't ignore that our society at that time was deep in the grips of white supremacy as a foundation of our laws and our dominant culture; this was the era of Jim Crow laws, a strong resurgence of the KKK, and movies of men in black face portraying black men as animalistic predators, specifically as rapists of white women. so a lawyer dehumanizing a black man to explain his presumed criminality as if it's practically to be expected is deeply culturally significant to the era

Interesting bit of trivia: If we take the life of Mr. Jingles as an example who lived about 32 times longer than a typical mouse (64 years vs 2), then Paul should live past the year 4000. Stephen King (the author of this) has said that John Coffey's initials are a clue about who and what he really is. This movie follows the book very closely. One of the best adaptations ever.

I wish you had shown when John Coffey told Paul (Tom Hanks) that he felt all the ugliness in the world, all the time and it was like glass in his brain, he was tired. THAT was an IMPORTANT little speech that shows you why he was Ok with being executed, even though he was innocent. Since you have already watched "FORREST GUMP" I was surprised that you didn't recognize Gary Sinise (who was LIEUTENANT DAN in FORREST GUMP) playing the man Tom Hanks went to see, sitting on the porch, and who defended John Coffey. Great reaction guys!!

After watching literally hundreds of movie reactions it has become clear to me, particularly in this video, that reactionary commentary , while mandatory, is by function, a serious immersion breaker (for the reactors). I can't think of how else to explain how people can watch movies like this and not cry like a baby.
It's either that or people have hearts of stone. But refuse to believe that.

@@theloudguysmovies At least you guys don't reduce yourselves to fake-crying just to rack up views. Apparently there is a real market for that. Maybe, coincidentally, all these fake-cry reactors have no tear ducts and so can't produce tears. What are the odds of that?

    1. YOU WILL CRY
    2. Dabbs Greer/old Paul was ill during production, so his part was done later. He also played Reverend Alden on "Little House on the Prairie".
    3. Hammersmith was not a good lawyer. (most likely a racial thing. It was 1935.)
    4. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row.
    5. This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won.
    6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist,
Storm of the Century and William Sadler: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist. David Morse:
    The Langoliers.
    7. Goof: Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream.
    8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegetarian and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but
was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill.
    9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of being Percy.👌
    10. A little fun fact: Toot Toot the trustee is played by Harry Dean Stanton.(RIP) The other guards' names are Harry Terwilliger/Jeffery DeMunn
    and Dean Stanton/Barry Pepper.
    11. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clark Duncan (RIP). They used planks, a small bed and smaller chair along with trick photography to make John taller.
12 The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution they used a real mouse and it pooped on Paul's shoulder and he brushed it off.
    13. Now we know what the "day old is fine" dry toast is for.
14 EVERYBODY cries and has to take time to reflect. Congratulations you just experienced
    the GREATEST MOVIE EVER.
    15. 4 words for you: Stephen King. You're WELCOME!

Agreed. This is the first and only review I've seen from this channel, but I like that it's from a distinctly non-American perspective. I already know what Americans think of the movie! Hearing about it from a different culture and in a different accent is a big part of the appeal, to me.

I've been really enjoying ypur reactions, I started with your Star Wars videos. And an A for effort with the american accent attempt...but there are many accents in the U.S.A. that people sometimes forget about. For example my home state, Oregon, is the accent most used/emulated in our T.V. news but other dialects sound very different like Bostonians or Texans. Keep up the great reactions you two. Sending love and success from Oregon.☺💚

Families are invited to their relation's execution but I think they seldom attend. The witnesses of the execution are usually relatives of the victims AND local and state officials in the prison system. The timeframe of the movie is just a bit before antibiotics were widely available, so Paul had to suffer with his urinary tract infection. John is a child of nature, hence his happiness when smelling the handsfull of leaves and grass and seeing the constellation Cassiopeia (John says, "Cassie"). And John is most certainly NOT an imbecile, is he.
