I will definitely be more confident in understanding my actions when using this plugin. Big Thankyou as the Pultec can be quite strange to get you head around. One key point that stood out to me is the frequency we set for the high and low shelf are actually the "center" of the shelf curve, not the point at which the shelf "starts" curving. The high shelf set at 5k really reached down to about 500 cycles, and likewise the low shelf set at 100 cycles reached up to nearly 1K. Very easy to confuse this with a high-pass or low-pass filter where the frequency set is much closer to the start of the shelf curve. This one is really closer to a tilt eq in the way it uses long, broad shelves. Thanks for illustrating this well. :)
Another excellent tutorial Lenny. I have (as you've probably guessed) the plugin. Love the warmth it provides and spent a long time tying to make it work with my 416 & OC818. You've given me a few tips which has already helped me to tame the 416 sibilance issues so thank you again.

Lenny, you raised some interesting ideas about the correct or desired sound. You say, "the right answer is the sound that you like." Maybe, but we're also trying to predict the sound the client, agent, casting director, etc is going to prefer. Would you say that there is a different desired/goal sound for different genres of voice work? A lot of the processing you do for commercial VO works to make the voice "bold", "punchy", or "present". I do more long form narration, audiobooks, elearning than I do commercial or promo. Would your goal sound be different if you were mastering an audiobook than if you were mastering a radio commercial? Thanks! (looking forward to the lesson on opto compressors as well. :) )
@narrator-timothymckean I have found that trying to predict what the client, agent, casting director, etc wants is a dangerous game. That's my experience. It would often lead me in a direction that compromised my brand and sometimes have me working outside my skillset. My goal for processing tends to just amplify the emotion of the voice. And yes, that may be different for different project types. However, using the processing as an effect or style is kind of a different game. It's a great subject. Maybe deserves a longer conversation.

That's a great question. I can't really give you an answer because every recording is different, and every project is different. It's easy to over-use EQ. I suggest striving for balance is the best North Star. I hope that helps.
Can you help me with my setup, I stream on twitch, I have AT 4050 into warm wa73 eq into wa76 into wa2a into Pultek eq, I've been messing with it so much I'm just not sure if I'm getting the best sound
Sorry, I don't offer settings for multiple hardware processing chains. It's just too difficult to translate the settings. My custom setting service is for plugins where I can get more precise. However, it looks like you've got some great gear!

This eq is trippy and i love it..i just started using it in live applications and it works nicely..
