  • When a town's most disagreeable resident is killed , the sheriff and county clerk must find the murderer
The CBS Mystery Theater (a.k.a. Radio Mystery Theater and Mystery Theater, sometimes abbreviated as CBSRMT) is a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS Radio Network affiliates from 1974 to 1982, and later in the early 2000s was repeated by the NPR satellite feed.
The format was similar to that of classic old time radio shows like The Mysterious Traveler and The Whistler, in that the episodes were introduced by host E. G. Marshall who provided pithy wisdom and commentary throughout. Unlike the hosts of those earlier programs, Marshall is fully mortal, merely someone whose heightened insight and erudition plunge the listener into the world of the macabre (in a manner similar to that of "The Man in Black" on yet another old time radio program, Suspense). Wonderful story. I just got so into it that everything else disappeared. I was in a hit and run accident 9 years ago and left to die, but I made it. Spent over a year in the hospital. I am bed bound and have seen everything in the wasteland that is TV. I wish to personally thank you for these programs. I can’t wait to see the others. It has been a blessing to my limited life. Thanks again for your time and effort in posting these, you never know how they will make someone’s life better.

I think there was a film made of this also.
Just can’t remember when I saw it some time in the past.
    These are great stories

Why does most of your audio sound as though it has been recorded from the bottom of a fish tank while someone is also sitting close by with an air dryer blowing? I can't listen to 90% of your content because of poor audio quality.

Most of the CBSRMT shows are air checks, probably recorded on reel to reel or cassette tape which tend to degrade. Older shows were recorded on transcription discs these were like 16 inch diameter LP records. We are trying to give a flavor of how analog radio sounded.. before RUclips and audio books. We are on the lookout for better recordings.

Considering that they are coming on for 50 years old, it is surprising that they even survived and weren't wiped long ago.
