Thank you for covering Papalymo. The overlooked and underrated scion. I always felt like Paplymo was the one watching over the scions without taking credit for it. I liked him from the very start, hence all my characters start in Gridania. At one point when raiding this expansion, my friends and i decided to cosplay characters, fantasia and all that jazz. We had Sadu and Yshtola and whatnot. I played as Papalymo. I think after all, he is one of the best Scions.
I fully agree, Papalymo to me always felt like a pillar of the group, and things were not the same when he was gone.
Papalymo was truly his finest student , glad he got some recognition.
The only reason Stormblood wasn't a bad expansion storywise for me was because Yda and Paplymo were my scions. When we go to the Omega Control room and Yda asks if what we are doing is the right thing turning it on. You're given two prompts one is more cold and distant but the one I chose was. "What do you think?" I think that was important moment between my character and Yda. Plus other side quests involving the Ala Mhigan refugees. The strife they endured was very relatable to me. So I was all in. When Papalymo did his sacrifice I went to the tree stump where we met and cried as it began to rain. 💙

Excellent coverage of Papalymo, the most underrated Scion. I always liked him as the voice of reason, the pillar of the scions.

I know right. This video more than any of the others had me misty-eyed while editing.
Papalymo was never a favorite of mine when he was alive. But he was an ultimate badass at the very end, and only in hindsight did i realize he kind of a badass all along. Besides, putting up with ARR Yda all those years took some truly powerful magical might.
We never truly notice how important they are until they are gone.
I wanted to answer your comment sooner but for me it was also too soon.
Papalymo grew on me retroactively. Playing ARR multiple times through was helpful in that regard. I still don't consider him a close friend in the same manner that I do the Twins, Shtola, Urianger and Thancred. But that's alright. Ultimately he serves a greater function of making the world feel interconnected and alive. He is more of a friend of a friend as well as a comrade, a type of relationship also found in the real world. When he sacrificed himself at Baelsar's Wall during the Far Edge of Fate, I really didn't feel any sorrow. Because that death wasn't about the WoL, it was meant to be a tragedy more for the other Scions, Lyse especially.
Now with all this I also have to say that I am bitter at Endwalker not including a more fleshed out quest for Papalymo's remembrance. Just a brief chat with his father, I think Lyse should have at least been present in some capacity. It's also good that they included his dad in a Tales Story Article but that's just a bonus.

yda also had a different voice in arr but once it was revealed it is lyse the voice changed, kane sana also had a different voice 🙈
I recall this as well. I should look that up later, be interested to hear who the actors were.
